Campgrounds and RV parks near Temple City, CA

The area is built for varied day trips. Families gravitate to Pasadena for the Huntington Library, Kidspace Children's Museum, and Norton Simon Museum, while the Los Angeles County Arboretum in nearby Arcadia is a short drive from Temple City. Theme-park days are realistic from any of the regional RV parks: Disneyland and California Adventure are a short drive away, Six Flags Magic Mountain offers roller coasters, Raging Waters sits next door for hot-weather cooling off, and Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios round out the options. Outdoor time centers on Puddingstone Lake at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, where guests have direct beachfront access to the lake with mountain views, plus 9 miles of lakeside walking trails, fishing, and hiking. The Angeles Crest Highway climbs north into the San Gabriels for scenic driving, picnics, and trailheads.

Temple City has a mild Mediterranean climate, so RV travel is realistic year-round, but each season has trade-offs. Winter is cool and damp by Southern California standards. Rainfall concentrates from December through February, with February typically the wettest month in the Pasadena area. Storms can briefly close mountain roads in the Angeles National Forest and trigger flash-flood watches in the foothills, but valley parks stay open and uncrowded. Spring brings warming temperatures, green hillsides, and bloom in the foothills. In May and June, the so-called June Gloom can occur, with fog or cloud cover coming from the ocean, which keeps coastal-adjacent mornings overcast. Summer is hot, dry, and busy. School-break weekends fill lakeside and theme-park-adjacent parks fast, and fire restrictions are common in the national forest. Extreme and Critical fire use restrictions can mean no campfires and no portable cooking systems or stoves. Fall is the most comfortable stretch, with warm days, cool nights, and lighter crowds. Hot spells can still occur in September when Santa Ana winds blow from the deserts, which also raises wildfire risk.

Temple City is urban and residential, so the camping experience leans toward developed RV parks rather than wilderness. Expect paved or gravel pads, full hookups at most private parks, and easy freeway access on the 10, 210, and 605. Sites can sit close together, and traffic noise is part of the package at parks near major roads. Lakeside and regional-park settings feel more relaxed: Bonelli Bluffs features 504 paved full-hookup RV sites, including 15 pull-through spaces that accommodate slideouts on level terrain, as well as tent camping sites, and amenities include a beach-front park, two sparkling pools, outdoor fire pits, and activities. In the Angeles National Forest, conditions are more primitive, with vault toilets, limited water, and posted RV length limits. Bear-aware food storage is required at higher elevations.
