Campgrounds near Loma, Colorado
Loma sits at Exit 15 off I-70 in western Colorado's Grand Valley, about fifteen minutes west of Fruita and roughly half an hour from Grand Junction. The surrounding high desert offers RV travelers a compact base for red rock canyons, the Colorado River, and the Kokopelli and 18 Road mountain-biking trail systems.
Highline Lake State Park serves as the recreation hub for the Grand Valley, with two lakes, lush grass, trails, and trees, and connects to miles of trail close to nearby communities. The park's east entrance is reached directly from the Loma exit on I-70 via Highway 139 north, making it the closest developed campground to town.
Additional options fan out along the I-70 corridor. Saddlehorn Campground sits within Colorado National Monument near the Saddlehorn Visitor Center, four miles from the west entrance near Fruita and nineteen miles from the east entrance near Grand Junction, and is the only established campground within the Monument. Fruita - James M Robb-Colorado River State Park, Monument RV Resort, and Junction West Grand Junction RV Park round out the nearby full-hookup and river-adjacent choices.
Things to do near Loma
The Kokopelli Trailhead at Loma is the launch point for a well-known mountain-bike route running west toward Moab, and the 18 Road trails north of Fruita draw riders of all levels. Colorado National Monument's Rim Rock Drive delivers canyon overlooks by car, bike, or foot, with short trails like Window Rock, Alcove Nature, and Canyon Rim near Saddlehorn Campground.
Highline Lake supports non-motorized and motorized boating including water skiing and wakeboarding, fishing for bass, trout, and catfish, birdwatching for raptors and waterfowl, and a swim beach available during warmer months. Families staying at Fruita - James M Robb-Colorado River State Park have direct river access, stocked ponds, and paved paths connecting to the wider Riverfront Trail system through Fruita and Grand Junction.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel in the Grand Valley. Days warm quickly, nights stay cool, and the canyon country is comfortable for hiking and cycling. Wildflowers appear across the monument in April and May, and Fruita and Palisade orchards and wineries hit their stride in September and October.
Summer brings intense heat on the mesa tops and in the campground loops. At Saddlehorn, Loop A is typically open early April through the end of October and remains on a day-of reservation basis for the summer due to scheduled maintenance. Shade is limited in the high desert, so early starts and afternoon shelter matter.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Highline Lake's campground is open year-round, and the Camper Services Building with flush toilets and showers is open year round. From late October to late March, Loops A and C at Saddlehorn are closed for the season. Fire restrictions are in effect year round that prohibit all wood-burning fires, though charcoal and gas grills are permitted in designated areas.

This camper was awesome just what we were looking for . The space was nice for only three people but a good amount of room to visit with friends and get out of the rain. The best part was Jessica delivered the camper exactly where we wanted. Jessica and Mike are very nice people to work with and will use them again if they will have us. Thank you.
LaDonna L. - Jul 2026
Excellent RV hosts. Provided excellent communication and also explained the operating of the RV in detail. Would definitely use them again. Thanks Mike!

How to book campgrounds near Loma
Colorado state parks and the national monument use separate reservation systems, so plan by park. A reservation is required to camp at Highline Lake State Park; reservations can be made online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613, up to six months in advance of the arrival date. The same CPW system handles the Fruita section of James M Robb-Colorado River State Park.
Saddlehorn Campground uses recreation.gov with three separate reservation windows: six months in advance, two weeks in advance, and same day, which helps both trip planners and spontaneous visitors. Same-day sites are released at 8 a.m. Mountain Time daily on recreation.gov.
Private parks such as Monument RV Resort and Junction West Grand Junction RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and generally offer full hookups suitable for larger rigs.
What to expect on the ground
The Grand Valley is high desert. Expect dry air, strong sun, and cool nights even in summer. Sites at state parks tend to be paved or gravel with picnic tables and grills; hookup availability varies by loop, so confirm at booking. At Highline Lake, the maximum stay is fourteen days within a 28-day period, and a maximum of six people, two motorized vehicles, and only one camping unit is allowed per site.
Saddlehorn is a dry camp inside the monument. There are no electric or water hookups and no dump station on site, and while flush toilets and water are available during the summer, there are no showers. Campers should not fill RV tanks from campground water faucets; the nearest dump station is at the Colorado Welcome Center in Fruita.
Rim Rock Drive passes through three tunnels, two on the west side and one on the east side of the park. Vehicle or bicycle lights are required while traveling through them.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Loma, CO
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Loma, CO?
RV rental in Loma is one of the most affordable ways to explore Colorado's Western Slope. Most rentals run between $90 and $200 per night for travel trailers, $150 to $275 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $400 for larger Class A coaches. Cheap RV rental Loma deals are easiest to find midweek and during shoulder seasons (March to April and October to November), when demand around Highline Lake State Park and the Kokopelli Trailhead drops. Pro tip: book a travel trailer if your tow vehicle is ready, or filter by Delivery to skip towing entirely. Bundling for 5+ nights often unlocks weekly discounts straight from the host.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Loma%2C%20ColoradoWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Loma, Colorado?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Loma, CO. Colorado does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or trailers, even big Class A rigs heading out to Rabbit Valley or the Kokopelli Trailhead. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license. That's it, no DMV trips, no extra paperwork before your Loma RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Loma covered by insurance or protection?
Every RV rental in Loma booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Kokopelli Trail or I-70 with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, and coverage applies to most physical damage to the RV itself. Hosts don't pick your coverage, you do, so you stay in control. Pro tip: pick a higher tier if you're planning long days on dirt roads near Highline Lake or Glade Park, and review the full plan details on the RVezy Help Center before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Loma RV rental?
You're not locked in the moment you book. RVezy applies a platform-wide cancellation policy (hosts don't set their own), and refund amounts depend on how far out your trip is. That flexibility matters in western Colorado, where wildfire smoke or spring snowstorms on Grand Mesa occasionally shift plans. You can review the exact policy during checkout and inside your RVezy account, and the support team can walk you through changes if your schedule shifts. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so you're never left stranded.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Loma?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Loma options are plentiful, since most western Colorado hosts know dogs are part of the family. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and message the host to confirm any pet fee or specific notes. Once you're here, your pup will love the Colorado Riverfront Trail, the open shoreline at Highline Lake State Park (leashed), and the wide-open singletrack at the Kokopelli Trailhead. The campground at Highline Lake welcomes leashed pets, and there are self-serve dog wash options in nearby Grand Junction for post-hike cleanup.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/HighlineLakeCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Loma?
Yes, RV delivery Loma is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT), about 20 minutes east. Many RVezy hosts will drive the rig to the campground at Highline Lake State Park, James M. Robb Colorado River State Park in Fruita (about 7 miles southeast), or even a private property in Glade Park, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Filter listings by Delivery, check the host's delivery radius, and confirm the fee in your booking message. It's the fastest path to a stress-free first night under the stars.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/HighlineLakeHow many miles do I get and how far can I drive from Loma?
Mileage policies are set per listing, and many Loma hosts offer 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for road-trip travelers. That's plenty of room for the classics: Moab, UT is about 110 miles west on I-70, Telluride sits about 130 miles south, Aspen is roughly 160 miles east via Glenwood Springs, and Mesa Verde National Park is about 200 miles southwest. For shorter days, Colorado National Monument is just 15 miles away. Pro tip: check the listing's per-mile overage rate before booking so you can budget a true RV road trip from Loma without surprises.
nps.gov/colm/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Loma?
You're spoiled for choice with best campgrounds near Loma. The campground at Highline Lake State Park (about 5 miles north) offers electric hookups, showers, and a dump station right by the water. James M. Robb Colorado River State Park (Fruita section, 7 miles southeast) offers full hookups and easy I-70 access. Saddlehorn Campground inside Colorado National Monument delivers jaw-dropping red-rock views. Monument RV Resort in Fruita has full hookups and a pool, and Rabbit Valley dispersed sites (about 25 miles west) are free BLM camping for off-grid lovers. Reserve state park sites on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife site as early as you can for summer weekends.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/HighlineLakeWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Loma?
Loma sits at about 4,500 feet in the high desert, so the sweet spots are spring (April to early June) and fall (September to October), when daytime highs hover in the 65-80°F range and nights cool to the 40s-50s, perfect for RV camping Loma. Summer brings 90-100°F afternoons, great for paddling Highline Lake but tough on RV air conditioners. Winters are mild compared to the rest of Colorado, often dry with highs in the 40s, making it a quiet, scenic season if your rental has a furnace. Local insider tip: time your trip to mid-October for golden cottonwoods along the Colorado River and empty trails at the Kokopelli Trailhead.
weather.gov/gjt/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Loma?
You'll do great, Loma is one of the friendliest places in Colorado for first time renting an RV. The roads are wide, traffic is light, and I-70 access at Exit 15 is straightforward. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, and the toilet system, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Start with a short drive to Highline Lake State Park (about 10 minutes) to get comfortable before heading toward Colorado National Monument's Rim Rock Drive. Pro tip: choose a Class C or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first time, they handle like a big van and park easily at most local campgrounds.
codot.gov/travelWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on the way to Rabbit Valley or a dead battery at the Kokopelli Trailhead is a phone call, not a crisis. Help can dispatch tow trucks, mobile mechanics, fuel delivery, lockout service, and tire changes throughout Mesa County and along I-70 between Grand Junction and the Utah border. Your host is also a quick message away for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so any service call goes faster.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Loma RV rental into Utah or other states?
Yes, crossing into Utah is one of the most popular reasons to rent an RV in Loma, you're only about 12 miles from the state line on I-70. Moab and Arches National Park (about 110 miles), Canyonlands (about 140 miles), and Capitol Reef (about 220 miles) are all easy multi-day trips, and your RVezy protection package travels with you across U.S. state lines. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Heading to Canada may be possible with host approval. Just confirm any cross-border or out-of-state plans with your host in the booking message so everyone's on the same page.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Loma RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so plan ahead. Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes around 8-12 MPG, and Class A coaches 6-10 MPG. Gas prices in the Grand Junction-Loma area tend to run close to the Colorado state average, with Costco and Sam's Club in Grand Junction often the cheapest fill-ups before you head west. A round trip from Loma to Moab (about 220 miles) in a Class C burns roughly 20-25 gallons. Pro tip: top off in Fruita before crossing into Utah, there are no services for nearly 60 miles between the state line and the Crescent Junction exit.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Loma?
For peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and any weekend in October, aim to reserve 3 to 6 months ahead, especially at Highline Lake State Park and James M. Robb Colorado River State Park. Colorado state park sites open on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife reservation system up to six months in advance, and the popular waterfront spots go fast. Saddlehorn Campground in Colorado National Monument books through Recreation.gov and fills quickly in spring. Pro tip: if you struck out, Rabbit Valley and North Fruita Desert BLM sites are first-come, first-served and rarely fill on weekdays.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234064What are driving conditions like around Loma?
Driving around Loma is refreshingly easy: I-70 is flat and well-maintained from the Utah border through Grand Junction, with light traffic compared to the Front Range. The main thing to know is that Rim Rock Drive in Colorado National Monument has a 14-foot height restriction in the tunnels and tight switchbacks, so larger Class A motorhomes and tall fifth wheels should skip it and stick to Highway 340 instead. Watch for crosswinds on open stretches near Mack and Fruita, and afternoon thunderstorms in July and August. Pro tip: check CDOT's COtrip app before heading to Grand Mesa or Glenwood Canyon, both can close suddenly in winter.
codot.gov/travel/colorado-mountain-passes-tunnels-conditionsWhat hookups and amenities will I find at Loma-area campgrounds?
You'll find a great mix. The campground at Highline Lake State Park offers electric hookups (no sewer at site), potable water fills, a dump station, coin showers, laundry, and flush restrooms. James M. Robb Colorado River State Park in Fruita has full hookup sites (water, electric, sewer) plus a dump station. Monument RV Resort and Grand Junction-area RV resorts offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, and pools. For dump and fresh water on the road, the Loves Travel Stop in Fruita (Exit 19) is convenient. Pro tip: most Colorado state parks require a daily vehicle pass on top of camping fees, so factor that into your budget.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/JamesMRobbColoradoRiverWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Loma?
Most RVs near Loma come trip-ready with real beds (queen or king in the master, plus bunks or convertible dinettes), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelts for travel passengers. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator for boondocking at Rabbit Valley. Wi-Fi varies, cell coverage is solid in the Grand Valley but spotty once you climb Grand Mesa, so download maps and entertainment in advance. Ask your host for a quick demo of the water heater and tank monitors at pickup.
visitgrandjunction.com/things-to-do/What add-ons can I get and how does pickup work?
Hosts in the Loma and Grand Junction area commonly offer add-ons like bedding and towel packs ($25-75), camp chairs and tables, kitchen kits, generators, bike racks (great for the Kokopelli Trail), and propane refills. Pickup usually happens at the host's home in Loma, Fruita, or Grand Junction, with a 30-60 minute walkthrough covering systems, driving, and dump procedures. Many hosts also offer delivery to local campgrounds or Grand Junction Regional Airport. Mileage policies and generator hours are clearly listed on each listing. Pro tip: request the bike rack add-on, you're 5 minutes from the Kokopelli Loops trailhead, world-famous singletrack right outside town.
blm.gov/visit/mcinnis-canyons-national-conservation-areaHow do payment and security deposits work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is also held separately before the trip starts; the exact amount is shown on every listing and typically ranges from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV. It's released back to you after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, it's the easiest way to keep your full deposit and start your family RV trip Loma stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent a campervan or motorhome in Loma during winter?
Yes, winter is a quietly amazing time for a campervan rental Loma or motorhome rental Loma. The Grand Valley stays surprisingly mild, with January highs often in the low 40s and very little snow at the valley floor, while a 45-minute drive lands you in deep powder on Grand Mesa or at Powderhorn Mountain Resort. Look for listings with heated holding tanks, a working furnace, and shore power capability, and ask the host to confirm winterization status. The campground at Highline Lake stays open year-round with electric hookups. Pro tip: pair a winter RV trip with ice fishing on Grand Mesa's frozen alpine lakes for a true Colorado adventure.
