Campgrounds and RV parks near Towaoc, CO

Towaoc sits in Colorado's southwestern corner, at the headquarters of the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation and within reach of Mesa Verde National Park. The town is about 15 miles southwest of Cortez, along U.S. Highway 491 near the junction with U.S. 160, which makes it a practical staging point for RV travelers exploring the Four Corners region. On-reservation lodging is limited, so most RV travelers base at the Ute Mountain Casino Hotel property, which operates an RV park alongside the casino. Additional full-service options cluster a short drive north in Cortez, including Sundance RV Park, La Mesa RV Park, and Cortez RV Resort. West of Cortez toward McElmo Canyon, Ancient Echoes at Kelly Place offers a quieter setting closer to backcountry archaeological sites. The main draw is the Ute Mountain Tribal Park, which preserves Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings, petroglyphs, and rock art accessible only with a Ute guide. Mesa Verde National Park lies immediately to the northeast, roughly a 30-minute drive from Towaoc via U.S. 160.

For sites inside Mesa Verde National Park, Morefield Campground is the only in-park option, managed by concessioner Aramark and booked through visitmesaverde.com or by phone rather than Recreation.gov. The campground operates roughly late April through mid-October, with 267 sites including 15 full-hookup RV spots that fill first. Standard sites rarely sell out except on holiday weekends. Reservations at the Ute Mountain Casino Hotel RV park are made directly with the property. Cortez RV Resort, Sundance RV Park, La Mesa RV Park, and Ancient Echoes at Kelly Place also take reservations directly by phone or through their websites; book several weeks ahead for summer and holiday weekends. Mesa Verde cliff dwelling tours are booked separately on Recreation.gov, with tickets released on a rolling 14-day window. Ute Mountain Tribal Park tours are arranged through the tribal park visitor center.
