Campgrounds near Alva, Florida
Alva is a small riverside community in Lee County, Florida, sitting on the north bank of the Caloosahatchee River about 11 miles east of Interstate 75 on State Road 80, between Fort Myers and LaBelle. The town serves as a quiet base for RV travelers who want river access, warm-weather camping, and easy day trips into the Fort Myers metro area.
RV options cluster along the Caloosahatchee corridor and just west toward Fort Myers. Riverside Retreat and RiverBend Motorcoach Resort Marina sit closest to town on the river, while Upriver RV Resort, Orange Harbor Mobile Home and RV Resort, and Cypress Trail RV Resort provide larger full-hookup properties within a short drive. Public options include a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground at the W.P. Franklin Lock on the Caloosahatchee River and primitive tent sites at a Lee County regional park just outside town.
The area is flat, low elevation, and heavily oriented to boating, fishing, and winter snowbird stays.
Things to do near Alva
The Caloosahatchee River is the main draw. Boating, kayaking, and fishing are the everyday activities, and the river forms part of the 152-mile Okeechobee Waterway spanning from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. Watching boats lock through at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam is a common family stop, and the on-site visitor center covers the waterway's history.
On land, the nearby Lee County regional park offers over 18 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails through pine flatwoods, cypress swamp, and oak hammocks. Fort Myers, about 30 minutes west, adds the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, Gulf beaches at Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel, and spring-training baseball. In winter, manatees congregate at warm-water outflows along the river.

Alva has a distinct two-season pattern typical of Southwest Florida. The dry, mild months from November through April are peak RV season. Daytime highs sit in the 70s and low 80s, humidity is lower than in summer, and mosquitoes are manageable. Snowbird demand is heavy in January, February, and March, and the larger private resorts often fill on monthly leases well before the season starts.
May through October is the wet season. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily in summer, June is typically the wettest month, and heat indices routinely push past 100. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with the highest risk in August, September, and October; travelers should track NOAA National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm park evacuation policies before booking.
Late April, early May, and November tend to offer the best balance of open sites, lower rates, and comfortable weather.

This was my 1st time renting an RV. Cathy and Jose were fantastic to work with. From explaining the overall process to an “orientation meeting”, they were so helpful. Weather and traffic delayed my return by a couple of hours. Communication remained open and all was fine. Excellent vehicle and even better support where needed. We’ll definitely keep Cathy and Jose in mind for our next adventure 😉

My experience with Jose and his wife was amazing. They were very attentive and proactive with my needs. The RV was outstanding and we fell in love with not only the RV but the overall experience.

How to book campgrounds near Alva
Private RV resorts in the Alva and east Fort Myers area, including Riverside Retreat, RiverBend Motorcoach Resort Marina, Upriver RV Resort, Orange Harbor Mobile Home and RV Resort, and Cypress Trail RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter sites, especially waterfront and full-hookup pull-throughs, are frequently booked months in advance, and many properties give priority to returning monthly and seasonal guests.
The Corps of Engineers campground at W.P. Franklin Lock is reserved up to 6 months in advance at Recreation.gov. The nearby Lee County regional park handles its primitive tent and equestrian sites through the county parks system. For any winter stay, booking as early as the reservation window opens is the safest approach.
What to expect
Alva itself is rural: a crossroads with a convenience store, a country diner, a small museum, and a bridge over the river. Grocery runs, fuel, propane, and RV parts are generally handled in east Fort Myers or Lehigh Acres, both a short drive away.
Most private parks in the area are full-service with paved pads, 30 and 50 amp power, water, and sewer, and many cater to long-stay snowbirds with pools, laundry, and clubhouses. The Corps campground at W.P. Franklin offers 29 RV sites with 50-amp electric and water hookups but no sewer at the site, with two bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, a dump station, and a group picnic shelter. The Lee County regional park is primitive tent camping only, with no power.
Expect flat terrain, warm nights, mosquitoes and no-see-ums near the water, and alligators in freshwater canals and ponds.

Choose a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer for the easiest first experience. Pro tip: book a host with Instant Book and strong reviews, and ask them to suggest a beginner-friendly first stop like W.P. Franklin, where setup is simple and the river views are unbeatable.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during the trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy rental in Alva includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-75, a dead battery at Caloosahatchee Regional Park, or a lockout in Fort Myers is handled with one phone call. Your host is also a real person you can message directly, most Alva owners know their rig inside and out and can troubleshoot things like generator quirks or slide-out hiccups in minutes. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Alva RV rental to other states or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from Alva opens up much of the U.S. Southeast. Popular runs include the Florida Keys (Key Largo to Key West, about 175 to 325 miles south), the Gulf Coast up to St. Petersburg and Tampa (130 to 150 miles north), the Atlantic side via Miami and the Everglades, and even Savannah, GA (about 450 miles north). Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Travel into Canada may be possible with some hosts, message them directly from the listing before booking to confirm. Always confirm the mileage policy and any out-of-state notes on the listing, then enjoy the open road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an Alva RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 15 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 10 to 15 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. A typical week-long Alva loop covering 400 miles in a Class C runs about $130 to $180 in fuel at current Florida prices. Pro tip: fill up at larger truck-friendly stations along I-75 rather than smaller stations near Fort Myers Beach, you'll often save meaningfully per gallon and have easier pull-through access.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Alva?
Earlier than you think, especially November through April. W.P. Franklin North Campground (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) opens reservations on Recreation.gov six months in advance and snowbird-season nights are often gone within hours of release. Florida State Parks like Koreshan and Collier-Seminole open 11 months ahead at FloridaStateParks.org, and weekends sell out quickly the moment the window opens at 8 a.m. ET. Private parks like Upriver and Seminole Campground often have more last-minute flexibility. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for exactly when your booking window opens and be logged in and ready to click, that's how locals snag a riverside site.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232491What are the driving conditions like around Alva?
Alva is one of the easier places in Florida to drive an RV: the terrain is flat, roads are wide, and elevation barely cracks 20 feet above sea level. State Road 80 and State Road 78 are your main connectors to Fort Myers and LaBelle and both handle big rigs comfortably. I-75 runs about 10 miles west and is your highway to Tampa, Naples, or Miami. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms May through October (pull over and wait, they typically pass quickly), love-bug swarms in May and September (clean the windshield often), and slow-moving farm equipment on rural River Road. Avoid downtown Fort Myers Beach in peak March traffic, opt for delivery instead. Pro tip: check listing height clearance against any bridges on your planned route before departure.
fdot.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Alva?
You'll be well taken care of. Most RV parks near Alva offer full or partial hookups, and W.P. Franklin North Campground provides water and electric sites with a central dump station and potable water fill near the entrance. Caloosahatchee Regional Park offers primitive and equestrian sites with basic facilities. Upriver Campground in North Fort Myers has a pool, laundry, Wi-Fi, and propane refills on site. For dumping and water between stops, several truck stops along I-75 offer public dump stations for a small fee. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a sewer hose support, and a surge protector, Florida's older parks sometimes have unpredictable power.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232491What equipment and amenities come with an Alva RV rental?
More than you might expect. A typical RV rental in Alva, FL comes fully equipped with a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes), a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning (essential here), heat, dinette, and seatbelted seating for travel. Most Class C and Class A motorhomes include a generator, awning, outdoor speakers, and a TV. Many hosts on RVezy also provide bed linens, towels, camp chairs, and Bluetooth audio, just check the listing's amenities list. Wi-Fi and cell boosters are common upgrades. Pro tip: filter by 'sleeps 4' or 'sleeps 6' to match your group, and message the host to confirm bedding is included, it saves a Target run on day one.
nhtsa.gov/equipment/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts on RVezy in Alva offer add-ons that make the trip easier. Common options include linens and towel packages, kitchen kits, additional generator hours, portable propane fire pits (helpful because many Florida parks restrict ground fires during burn bans), bike racks, paddleboards, and pet cleaning fees. Mileage policies vary, most listings include 100 to 150 miles per day with extra miles charged per mile, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages, just ask. Pickup is typically at the host's property in the Alva area, and delivery to local campgrounds is widely available. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and linens for the smoothest first-night arrival at W.P. Franklin.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Alva,FloridaHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and fully online. You pay with a credit card directly through the secure RVezy checkout when you book, which covers the nightly rate, protection plan, service fees, and any add-ons you select. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before pickup and released back to you after dropoff once the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough photo walkaround at pickup and dropoff with your host, return with the fuel level and waste tanks as agreed, and stay in touch if anything happens during your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs Alva a good base for a family RV trip?
Alva is one of Southwest Florida's best-kept secrets for a family RV trip Alva. You're in a quiet rural setting on the Caloosahatchee River yet only 25 minutes from Fort Myers attractions like the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, IMAG History and Science Center, and Manatee Park (free, and you can literally watch wild manatees November to March). Sanibel Island's shelling beaches are under an hour away, Lovers Key State Park has calm-water beaches perfect for kids, and Babcock Ranch Eco-Tours in nearby Punta Gorda is a hit with all ages. Look for RVezy listings that sleep 6 with bunk beds and an outdoor TV. Pro tip: book a delivered travel trailer at W.P. Franklin and use it as a stationary basecamp, the kids will live in the river.
