Camping near Buckingham, Florida
Buckingham is an unincorporated rural community in eastern Lee County, Florida, roughly ten miles inland from downtown Fort Myers. The area sits along Buckingham Road between State Road 82 and the Caloosahatchee River, surrounded by pasture, palmetto scrub, and Lee County preserve land. RV travelers use it as a quieter base for exploring Southwest Florida while staying off the coastal traffic corridors.
Most of the camping options within a short drive are private RV resorts and mobile home and RV parks oriented toward snowbirds and long-stay guests. Cypress Trail RV Resort is the closest full-service resort, followed by Lazy J RV and Mobile Home Park, Orange Harbor Mobile Home and RV Resort, Sun-N-Fun Mobile Homeowners and RV Park, and Orange Grove Mobile Home and RV Park.
From Buckingham, drivers can reach Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, and Cape Coral in under an hour, with Interstate 75 and Southwest Florida International Airport both within a short drive. Public camping in the immediate area is limited, so most RV renters plan around the private resorts listed above.
Things to do near Buckingham
The Buckingham area is close to several Lee County nature sites. Manatee Park along the Orange River is a winter warm-water refuge where manatees gather from November through March, and the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve offers a boardwalk loop through wetland habitat. Buckingham Trails Preserve provides roughly seven miles of hiking and equestrian trails through pine flatwoods and open scrub, including a 2.3-mile hiking-only loop.
Families often build trips around the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers, Sun Splash Family Waterpark in Cape Coral, and the beaches at Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island. Anglers can launch on the Caloosahatchee River, and the Great Calusa Blueway paddling trail passes through the region for kayak and canoe day trips.

75° / 55°F 45 mmPeak snowbird season; parks fill months out
Peak RV season in Southwest Florida runs from December through March, when snowbirds fill parks across Lee County. Cypress Trail RV Resort and the surrounding mobile home and RV parks routinely reach capacity during these months, and many sites are held by returning seasonal guests. Winter days are mild and dry, and this is also when manatees congregate at Manatee Park on the Orange River.
Spring, particularly March and April, brings warm days, lower humidity, and the driest stretch of the year, making it a strong window for shorter RV trips before the summer wet season begins. Sites become easier to find as seasonal residents head north in April.
Summer through early fall is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and the Atlantic hurricane season. Hurricane activity in Florida peaks in September, with elevated risk from August through October, so RV renters traveling in that window should track the National Hurricane Center and confirm each park's evacuation policy before booking.

This was my 1st time renting an RV. Cathy and Jose were fantastic to work with. From explaining the overall process to an “orientation meeting”, they were so helpful. Weather and traffic delayed my return by a couple of hours. Communication remained open and all was fine. Excellent vehicle and even better support where needed. We’ll definitely keep Cathy and Jose in mind for our next adventure 😉

My experience with Jose and his wife was amazing. They were very attentive and proactive with my needs. The RV was outstanding and we fell in love with not only the RV but the overall experience.

How to book an RV site near Buckingham
For winter stays in the Buckingham and greater Fort Myers area, book six to twelve months ahead. Parks such as Cypress Trail RV Resort, Orange Harbor Mobile Home and RV Resort, and Sun-N-Fun Mobile Homeowners and RV Park are heavily reserved by seasonal guests, and monthly stays are common. Many private parks require a deposit at reservation and impose cancellation windows that can run thirty days or more, so read each operator's policy before paying.
For shoulder-season and summer visits, three to six months of lead time is usually sufficient. Florida State Parks in the wider region, including Koreshan and Myakka River, open bookings through reserve.floridastateparks.org or by phone at 800-326-3521. Florida residents can reserve up to eleven months in advance, while non-residents can reserve up to ten months out, and popular winter dates fill within minutes of release.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of long-term residents and short-stay travelers in the private parks around Buckingham. Sites are typically level with full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and shared amenities such as pools, laundry, clubhouses, and pickleball. Parks like Cypress Trail RV Resort accept most rig types, including Class A motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and park models, with big-rig-friendly access.
Cell coverage from major carriers is generally strong across Lee County, and grocery stores, fuel, and repair services are easy to reach along State Road 82 and Palm Beach Boulevard. Wildlife is part of the experience: alligators live in many freshwater ponds and canals, and mosquitoes are heavy from June through October, so screens and repellent matter.

On RVezy, towable travel trailers near Buckingham average around $125 per night, while motorhomes typically run about $200 to $250 per night, with many hosts offering 10 to 20 percent weekly or monthly discounts. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Buckingham%2C%20FloridaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Buckingham, FL?
You're in luck: Florida does not require a special license for personal RV use, so your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Buckingham. Florida's standard Class E license covers recreational vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) up to 26,000 pounds, which includes essentially every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the RVezy platform. You must be at least 25 years old to book on RVezy, and the platform verifies your identification during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license and you're set to roll out toward the Gulf.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/What protection is included with my Buckingham RV rental?
You can book with confidence, because every RV rental in Buckingham booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, so a small scrape on a narrow campground loop at a place like Koreshan State Park won't derail your vacation. During checkout, you choose the coverage level that fits your trip, from a more basic plan to higher-tier options with a lower out-of-pocket responsibility if something happens. It's real peace of mind for first-time renters exploring Southwest Florida by motorhome or travel trailer.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Buckingham RV rental?
You're not locked in the moment you book. RVezy's cancellation policy applies platform-wide and includes a grace period right after booking, so you can secure your Buckingham dates with confidence. The refund you receive depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a named storm threatens Lee County during hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), reach out to RVezy support, who work directly with guests on weather-impacted trips. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Buckingham RV inventory, then finalize your campground reservations once your trip is confirmed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Buckingham?
Absolutely, and Southwest Florida is a dream for dogs. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Buckingham, so just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see them instantly. Once you're on the road, your pup will love Manatee Park on SR-80 (great for shaded boardwalks and winter manatee viewing), the leashed trails at Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve right in Buckingham, and Dog Beach at the south end of Estero Boulevard, about 35 minutes away. Most pet-friendly hosts ask that you keep pets off the furniture and clean up before drop-off. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or weight notes.
leegov.com/parks/parks/manateeparkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Buckingham?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your trip. Many Buckingham hosts offer RV delivery directly to local campgrounds, driveways, or rental homes throughout Lee County, including popular destinations like Seminole Campground in North Fort Myers, Cypress Woods RV Resort, and Koreshan State Park in Estero. Your host will tow or drive the RV in, level and stabilize it, hook up to water and power if available, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which listings offer it. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV, because you skip the highway driving and start the trip already set up.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/koreshan-state-parkCan I find an RV rental with unlimited mileage in Buckingham?
Yes, unlimited mileage rentals do exist in Buckingham, and they're perfect if you're planning a longer Florida RV trip. Hosts set their own mileage policies on RVezy, so you'll see options ranging from 100 free miles per night to fully unlimited mileage. For local exploration, most renters easily stay under standard mileage caps: it's only about 14 miles to downtown Fort Myers, 25 miles to Sanibel Island, 45 miles to Naples, and roughly 90 miles to the gates of Everglades National Park. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer haul up to St. Petersburg or over to Miami, use the mileage filter and message the host to confirm before booking.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Buckingham, FL?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Buckingham include Seminole Campground & RV Park in North Fort Myers (a longtime family favorite with full hookups and a pool, about 20 minutes away), Cypress Woods RV Resort off Luckett Road (an amenity-rich 55+ resort just minutes from Buckingham), Koreshan State Park in Estero (state-park camping among historic buildings and the Estero River, about 30 minutes south), and Encore Fort Myers Beach RV Resort (Gulf-close with paved pads). For something rustic, Caloosahatchee Regional Park across the river in Alva offers primitive sites and great trails. Pro tip: state park sites open 11 months in advance on ReserveAmerica and book out fast for winter, so set a calendar reminder.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/koreshan-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Buckingham?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Buckingham is November through April, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s and low 80s, humidity drops, mosquitoes ease up, and rainfall is at its lowest. Snowbird season peaks January through March, so book early if you want prime campground spots. May and October are excellent shoulder months for a quieter, cheaper trip, with highs around 85 to 88. Summer (June through September) is hot, humid, and stormy, with afternoon thunderstorms nearly daily and an active hurricane season through November 30. Pro tip: book a winter campervan rental in Buckingham by early fall to lock in both the rig and the campsite while options are still wide open.
weather.gov/tbw/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Buckingham?
You'll do great, especially around Buckingham. This is one of the easier areas in Florida to learn in: roads like SR-80, Buckingham Road, and Orange River Boulevard are flat, wide, and have low traffic compared to coastal Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, propane, and the dump process, so you're never left guessing. If you're nervous about size, choose a Class B campervan or a 20 to 25 foot Class C motorhome for your first time renting an RV. Pro tip: avoid Daniels Parkway and Summerlin Road during weekday rush hour, and never take an RV onto Sanibel Causeway without confirming current bridge clearances.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsandpublicationsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Buckingham trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Palm Beach Boulevard or a dead battery at a Caloosahatchee Regional Park campsite is a phone call away from help. The roadside team can dispatch a tow, jump-start, tire change, fuel delivery, or lockout service. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app and is usually quick to help troubleshoot smaller items. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's tire pressure stickers and the location of the fuse box during your pickup walkthrough so you can share info quickly if you ever need roadside support.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Buckingham, FL?
You're in a perfect launchpad. Popular RV road trips from Buckingham include the Everglades loop south through Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades National Park (about 90 miles to Shark Valley), the Gulf beaches run down to Naples and Marco Island (45 to 60 miles), Sanibel and Captiva Islands for shelling and Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge (about 30 miles), and a longer haul to the Florida Keys via US-1 (around 230 miles to Key Largo). Heading north, St. Petersburg and Tampa are roughly 130 miles up I-75. Travel to Mexico isn't covered, but cross-country US trips are great. Pro tip: book Flamingo Campground in the Everglades months ahead, since it's the only one inside the park's main entrance.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/camping.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Buckingham RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes in the area get 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class A motorhomes 6 to 9, and Class B campervans 16 to 20. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Florida gas prices typically run a few cents below the national average, with stations along SR-80, Palm Beach Boulevard, and I-75 Exit 141 (Luckett Road) being convenient fill-up spots near Buckingham. For a 5-night local trip averaging 250 miles, budget roughly $100 to $175 in fuel for most motorhomes. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fill up before crossing into the Everglades, where stations are sparse and prices jump.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Buckingham?
For winter trips, book as early as possible: Florida State Parks like Koreshan and Cayo Costa open reservations 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime January through March dates can fill within minutes of opening. Privately owned RV resorts like Seminole Campground and Cypress Woods also fill up by early fall for snowbird season. For summer and shoulder-season trips, you can often grab a site a week or two out. Pro tip: if you strike out at a state park, set up a free campsite-availability alert through Campnab for ReserveAmerica, since cancellations happen daily and great riverfront sites at Koreshan show up regularly if you're watching.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Buckingham?
Driving around Buckingham is refreshingly mellow. The area is dead flat with no mountain passes, switchbacks, or snow, which makes rent an RV in Buckingham an easy choice for first-timers. Most local roads are wide two-lane routes through pine flatwoods and pastureland. Watch for three things: summer afternoon thunderstorms that can drop visibility fast (just pull off and wait 20 minutes), seasonal traffic on Daniels Parkway and the Midpoint Bridge during winter, and low-clearance overpasses are essentially nonexistent here, so you won't get pinched. Florida's max RV height is 13 feet 6 inches and max length is 45 feet for a single motorhome. Pro tip: avoid Sanibel Causeway in your RV during weekend rush, and use I-75 for any cross-state drives.
fdot.gov/traffic/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Buckingham?
Most campgrounds near Buckingham are full-service, which makes RV camping in Buckingham extra easy. Private resorts like Cypress Woods, Seminole Campground, and Encore Fort Myers Beach offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer at each site), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and dump stations. Florida State Parks like Koreshan provide water and 30/50-amp electric but no sewer hookups at sites; you'll use the campground dump station before leaving. Potable water fill stations are standard everywhere. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a water pressure regulator (Florida pressure can spike), and a 15-to-30 amp adapter so you can plug into any pedestal you encounter on your Buckingham RV trip.
floridastateparks.org/learn/campingWhat features and amenities come with a typical Buckingham RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how loaded these rigs are. Most motorhome rentals in Buckingham include a queen or king bed, full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stovetop, microwave, and sink, a wet bath with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential in Southwest Florida), heat, a TV, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many include outdoor speakers, awnings, and outdoor showers (perfect after a beach day at Sanibel). Wi-Fi hotspots and onboard generators are common add-ons offered by hosts. Travel trailers offer the same comforts but require a capable tow vehicle. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count to find your perfect family RV trip Buckingham setup, and confirm AC capacity for summer trips when interior temps battle 90-plus afternoons.
energystar.gov/products/heating_cooling/central_air_conditioningWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Buckingham RV rental?
Hosts offer a lot of helpful extras that make your trip easier. Common add-ons for a motorhome rental in Buckingham include delivery and setup (usually priced by the mile from the host's location), kitchen and linen kits, camping chairs, outdoor grills, bike racks, generators, portable Wi-Fi, and even pre-stocked propane tanks. Mileage policies vary by host (some offer unlimited, others a daily allowance with a small per-mile overage), as do generator-hour limits. Pickup typically happens at the host's property in or near Buckingham, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough. Pro tip: ask about a beach package if you're heading to Fort Myers Beach, since many hosts throw in chairs, an umbrella, and a cooler for a small fee.
visitfortmyers.com/things-to-do/beachesHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Buckingham RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, so you never exchange cash, checks, or card info directly with the host. You'll pay your rental total at booking via credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit hold is placed on your card shortly before your trip starts, separate from the booking payment itself. The deposit is released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition you got it. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and drop-off, return with the same fuel and propane levels, empty the holding tanks at a dump station, and bring the rig back clean. Pro tip: keep your pickup walkthrough video saved on your phone until your deposit is fully refunded.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Buckingham RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Cross-country travel is encouraged, and from Buckingham you've got an entire continent to roam. You're welcome to take your RVezy rental across US state lines, so Georgia beaches, the Carolinas, or even a long haul to the Smokies are all on the table. Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval, so message the host before booking if Canada is in your plans. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stops at the US border. Pro tip: for a classic Florida RV road trip from Buckingham, head north on I-75 to St. Augustine and then up the Atlantic coast, easy, scenic, and totally within bounds.
