Campgrounds near Clewiston, Florida
Clewiston sits on the southwest shore of Lake Okeechobee in Hendry County, roughly halfway between Fort Myers and West Palm Beach on US 27. The town is known locally as America's Sweetest Town for its role in sugarcane production, and most RV parks in the area are built around lake access, bass fishing, and snowbird stays.
RV options cluster along US 27 and the Herbert Hoover Dike. Crooked Hook RV Resort and Twin Palms Resort are close to town, while Torry Island Campground sits across the lake near Belle Glade with direct water access. Lake Breeze RV Park and North Lake Estates RV Resort are north of Clewiston along the lake's western rim, closer to Moore Haven.
The warm south Florida climate keeps camping season year round, with the busiest stretch during the winter months, when visitors from colder northern climates settle in for weeks or months to enjoy mild temperatures and the recreation Lake Okeechobee offers. Most parks in the area cater to big rigs with full hookups and 50-amp service.
Things to do around Clewiston
Lake Okeechobee is the main draw. Torry Island Campground offers direct boating access to what is billed as America's Bass Fishing Capital of the World, and marinas around the lake rent boats, sell tackle, and book fishing guides. The Herbert Hoover Dike carries the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail, a paved loop of roughly 110 miles that is popular with cyclists and walkers for its open lake views.
Wildlife watching is strong along the dike, with bald eagles, ospreys, snail kites, and roseate spoonbills regularly sighted; an observation tower and two walking nature trails give closer looks at birds and fish. In town, the Clewiston Museum covers local history and the sugar industry, and Belle Glade Golf Club is the only course sitting directly on the Lake Okeechobee shoreline.

Winter is peak season. From roughly late October through April, snowbirds fill the RV resorts along US 27 and the lake, temperatures stay mild, and humidity drops. Sites at popular parks like Crooked Hook RV Resort book out months ahead, and limited transient availability means it is advisable to call ahead before arrival. Bass fishing tournaments run heavily through this window.
Spring brings warming temperatures, thinning crowds, and reliable fishing before the summer rains build. Availability opens up at most parks by late April.
Summer is hot, humid, and wet. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily from June through August, and this stretch overlaps the Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks in September. Rates drop, but travelers should watch tropical forecasts and confirm cancellation policies. Fall stays warm and can remain stormy through October, then gradually dries out as the snowbird season begins again.
How to book a campsite near Clewiston
Most parks in the Clewiston area are privately owned and take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, with some also listed on aggregators like Good Sam, RoverPass, and Campendium. Crooked Hook RV Resort, Twin Palms Resort, Lake Breeze RV Park, and North Lake Estates RV Resort all follow this pattern, and sites fill up quickly, so reservations should be made early.
Torry Island Campground is different: it is run by the City of Belle Glade across the lake in Palm Beach County, with its own reservation office and online booking through CampLife. For winter stays, plan several months out. Some parks have age restrictions or are 55-plus, so confirm eligibility, pet rules, and rig-length limits before paying a deposit.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Clewiston are generally flat, grassy or gravel, and set among sugarcane fields, canals, and palm shade. Full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service are standard at the private resorts, and pull-throughs are common enough that big rigs are well accommodated. Cell service is reliable near US 27 but weaker on Torry Island, where reviewers note limited signal.
Expect an active snowbird social scene in winter: organized activities including horseshoes, shuffleboard, bingo, billiards, dances, and fishing tournaments are typical at the larger parks. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are a factor near the lake, especially at dusk and after summer rains, so bring repellent. Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are available in Clewiston and Belle Glade; larger runs go to Fort Myers or West Palm Beach.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Clewiston RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Clewiston booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on US-27 toward Lake Okeechobee with real peace of mind. Renters choose from multiple protection plan tiers at checkout, and the plan helps cover accidental damage to the RV during your trip. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection alongside roadside support. Review the coverage tiers carefully before booking, especially if you plan to tow a bass boat or venture onto rural roads near Dinner Island Ranch.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Clewiston RV booking?
Plans change, and RVezy keeps cancellations straightforward. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy rather than individual hosts, and every booking includes a short grace period after you reserve, giving you breathing room to finalize plans for your Clewiston RV trip. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip start you cancel. RVezy also has special provisions for hurricanes and other natural events, which matters in Hendry County during Atlantic hurricane season from June 1 to November 30. Book early for the Sugar Festival or peak bass tournament weekends, then review the cancellation details in your confirmation email so you know exactly where you stand.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Clewiston RV trip?
Yes, Clewiston is a dog-friendly corner of Florida and many pet-friendly RV rental Clewiston listings on RVezy welcome dogs. Hosts note weight limits, pet fees, and policies right on the listing, and you can use the Pet-Friendly filter to narrow your search instantly. Once you arrive, Clewiston RV Resort and Campground has a fenced on-site dog park, and the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail atop the Herbert Hoover Dike is leash-friendly, perfect for sunrise walks. Pack a cooling mat and extra water bowls; even in winter, midday temperatures in Clewiston regularly climb into the upper 70s, so your pup will thank you.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clewiston%2C%20FloridaCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Clewiston?
Yes, RV delivery in Clewiston is one of the smartest moves for first-timers and anglers alike. Many RVezy hosts in the Clewiston and Lake Okeechobee area will deliver the RV directly to popular spots like Okeechobee Landings RV Resort, Crooked Hook RV Resort, Roland Martin Marina, or Clewiston RV Resort and Campground, then handle setup, hookups, and a full walkthrough so you can step in and start fishing. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination to confirm distance fees. Delivery is a huge stress-reliever if you are flying into Palm Beach International or RSW in Fort Myers and prefer not to drive a motorhome on I-75 or US-27 your first day.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clewiston%2C%20FloridaHow far can I travel from Clewiston on an RV trip?
Clewiston sits in a sweet spot in South Florida, and an RV road trip from Clewiston can reach a surprising amount of geography in just a few hours. Fort Myers and the Gulf beaches are about 60 miles west via SR-80, West Palm Beach is roughly 65 miles east on US-27 and SR-80, Everglades National Park's Shark Valley entrance is around 65 miles south, Key Largo sits about 130 miles southeast, and Orlando theme parks are about 165 miles north. Mileage policies are set per listing on RVezy, and some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Filter for unlimited mileage if you are planning a loop trip across the state.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clewiston%2C%20FloridaWhere are the best campgrounds near Clewiston for an RV stay?
You have great choices for RV camping in Clewiston. Four standouts: Roland Martin Marina and Resort puts you steps from the Lake Okeechobee boat ramps and is bass-tournament central; Okeechobee Landings RV Resort is a 55-plus favorite with a pool and pickleball; Crooked Hook RV Resort sits among sugarcane fields with full hookups; and Clewiston RV Resort and Campground is an adult-oriented park near the Herbert Hoover Dike with a heated pool. Snowbird season fills these parks fast from January through March, so reserve your site as soon as your RVezy booking is confirmed.
rolandmartinmarina.com/When is the best time to visit Clewiston in an RV?
The sweet spot for a Clewiston RV trip is November through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s, humidity drops, and mosquitoes ease up. This is also peak bass season on Lake Okeechobee, and the Clewiston Sugar Festival typically lands in spring. May through October brings highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane season from June 1 to November 30. Summer can still be enjoyable if you favor early-morning fishing and shaded campsites. Book a January or February trip for the cool, breezy lake mornings South Florida snowbirds love, but reserve several months ahead because demand is intense.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Clewiston?
Clewiston is one of the easier places in Florida to learn. The town sits at the junction of US-27 and SR-80 with flat terrain, light traffic compared to Miami or Orlando, and wide rural roads through sugarcane country. If it is your first time renting an RV, your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slide-outs, the generator, and tank dumping, so you are never handed the keys without guidance. Many hosts also share a video orientation before pickup. For your first practice drive, try US-27 north toward Moore Haven, a straight divided highway perfect for getting comfortable with mirrors and braking distance before heading anywhere busier.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something breaks down during my Clewiston RV trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-27, a dead battery at Roland Martin Marina, or a tow situation between Clewiston and Big Cypress National Preserve is one phone call away from help. Your host is also a direct resource through the RVezy messaging app and often knows the closest mobile RV tech in Hendry or Glades County. Save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's tire pressure sticker; cell coverage is reliable along US-27 and SR-80 but can dip on backroads heading into the Everglades.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Clewiston RV rental into Canada or Mexico?
Travel to Mexico is not permitted in any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across the southern border. Travel to Canada may be possible with specific host approval and proper paperwork, but for a Clewiston-based rental it is a long haul and rarely practical. The good news: you have incredible domestic range right at your doorstep. Popular routes from Clewiston include the loop across Alligator Alley (I-75) to Naples and back via Tamiami Trail, the Atlantic coast run from West Palm Beach to the Space Coast, and the Florida Keys drive down US-1. Message any host directly through the listing if you have multi-state plans you want to confirm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas costs should I budget for?
Realistic expectations make for a happy trip. Class A motorhomes around Clewiston average 7 to 10 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes 10 to 14 MPG, Class B campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and trucks pulling travel trailers 10 to 13 MPG. Florida gas prices typically run close to the national average, with Clewiston stations along US-27 usually cheaper than Palm Beach County. For a 300-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Top off in Clewiston or Belle Glade before heading into the Everglades or down US-27 toward Miami, since stations get sparse and pricier south of South Bay.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Clewiston?
For the prime snowbird window of January through March, reserve your Clewiston-area campsite 4 to 6 months in advance, especially at Roland Martin Marina, Okeechobee Landings, and Crooked Hook RV Resort, which fill with returning seasonal guests. Big Cypress National Preserve's Midway and Monument Lake campgrounds (about 45 minutes south) book through Recreation.gov and typically open six months ahead. Shoulder seasons in April-May and October-November usually allow 2 to 4 weeks of lead time. If you are chasing a bass tournament weekend at Roland Martin's, call the marina directly rather than relying on online inventory; they often hold sites for tournament anglers.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232493What are the driving conditions like around Clewiston?
Clewiston driving is genuinely RV-friendly: flat, straight, and far less hectic than Florida's coasts. US-27 and SR-80 are wide divided highways well suited to motorhomes and travel trailers, with the most common hazards being sudden afternoon thunderstorms from June to September, occasional sugarcane-harvest tractors in winter, and the rare wildlife crossing on rural backroads. Watch for low-hanging branches on CR-720 and CR-833. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so check NOAA forecasts daily during that window. Avoid driving any rental RV on the Herbert Hoover Dike service roads, and stick to paved highways for a smooth motorhome rental Clewiston experience.
weather.gov/mfl/What amenities do campgrounds near Clewiston offer?
You will find full-service amenities at most parks around Lake Okeechobee. Roland Martin Marina, Okeechobee Landings, Crooked Hook, and Clewiston RV Resort all offer 30/50-amp electric, water and sewer hookups, WiFi, laundry, and pools. Dump stations and potable water fills are standard at all four. For groceries and propane refills, Walmart on US-27 is centrally located, and the Tractor Supply in nearby LaBelle stocks RV essentials. Lake Okeechobee water can be hard, so if your RVezy rental has a built-in water filter, ask your host how to change it; otherwise pick up an inline filter before you fill the freshwater tank.
rolandmartinmarina.com/What is included inside a typical Clewiston RV rental?
You will be set up for comfort from the moment you step inside. Most RVs on RVezy in the Clewiston area come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, bunks or convertible dinette for kids, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and cookware, a wet or dry bath with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning (a must in South Florida), a furnace, and a TV. Many include a generator for boondocking, an outdoor shower for rinsing off Lake Okeechobee mud, and seatbelts for everyone listed in the sleeping capacity. Filter by Sleeps count and review the listing photos closely; campervan rental Clewiston options are great for couples, while Class C motorhomes excel for a family RV trip Clewiston groups of four to six.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clewiston%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons can I get with my Clewiston RV rental?
RVezy hosts in Clewiston offer plenty of convenient add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include linen and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generator use for boondocking, kayaks or bikes for the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail, fishing gear, and pre-stocked propane tanks. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on around Clewiston since hosts will drop the RV at Roland Martin Marina or Okeechobee Landings for you. Mileage policies vary by listing, with daily allowances typically 100 to 150 miles and unlimited-mileage options also available. Bundle delivery plus linens plus a generator, and your pickup-day stress drops to nearly zero.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clewiston%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through RVezy, so you never pay your host directly with cash or e-transfer. You pay your trip total at the time of booking using a credit card, which keeps you protected and ensures the host is verified. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before your trip starts, typically ranging from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class, and it is released after the trip wraps up cleanly with the vehicle returned in the agreed condition. Record a walkthrough video at both pickup and drop-off with your host so any pre-existing scuffs are clearly documented and your deposit returns smoothly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I dump tanks and fill fresh water around Clewiston?
You will never be far from a dump station on a Clewiston RV trip. Roland Martin Marina, Clewiston RV Resort and Campground, Okeechobee Landings, and Crooked Hook RV Resort all offer on-site dump stations and potable water for guests, and most allow non-guests to dump for a small fee. Heading north, the Okeechobee KOA on US-441 has a public dump, and Big Cypress National Preserve's Midway Campground has one as well. Do not dump at gas stations along US-27. Top off freshwater before you leave the campground each morning; rural pull-offs along the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail do not have spigots, and the South Florida sun makes a full tank essential for showers and dishes.
