Campgrounds and RV parks near Cortez, FL

The Gulf beaches of Anna Maria Island are the main draw: Bradenton Beach, Coquina Beach, and Holmes Beach are all reachable by bike from Cortez, and a free island trolley loops the length of Anna Maria Island daily. Cyclists and pedestrians cross the Cortez Bridge; drivers should expect slow traffic in peak season. On the mainland side, the historic village itself has working fish houses, the Florida Maritime Museum, and the FISH Preserve nature area. Fishing charters, sunset cruises, kayak rentals, and eco-tours of the mangroves launch from Cortez docks. Sarasota's Mote Marine Aquarium, downtown Bradenton's Riverwalk, and MLB spring training games (Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton) are all under 30 minutes away. For a day trip inland, Myakka River State Park offers alligator viewing, canopy walks, and airboat tours.

Winter is high season. From January through March the Cortez RV resorts fill with snowbirds on monthly and seasonal leases, and nightly transient sites are limited. Booking three to six months ahead is typical for January through March arrivals, and some parks give priority to returning guests before opening remaining inventory to new bookings. Spring shoulder season, roughly April into May, brings warm sunny days, lower humidity, and easier availability. This is also spring break period on Anna Maria Island, so weekends around March break weeks fill quickly even when weekday sites are open. Summer is hot, humid, and the wet season, with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms and the lowest rates of the year. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak storm risk from mid-August through October along the Gulf Coast. Fall through early December is quieter until snowbird arrivals resume. Sea temperatures stay warm into November, making late fall a good window for beach RV trips with fewer crowds.

Expect resort-style parks rather than wooded campgrounds. Sites are generally paved or brick-paver pads with full hookups, 30 and 50 amp electric, cable, and Wi-Fi. Lots tend to be close together, with limited shade at newer sections and mature palms in older ones. Big-rig access is workable at most parks, but some interior roads and sites are tight, so confirm length and slide clearance when booking. Many parks skew to a 55-plus or adult-oriented community during winter, with organized activities, heated pools, shuffleboard, and clubhouses. Waterfront parks such as Holiday Cove and Buttonwood Inlet have canal frontage, boat ramps, and slips. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are common near the mangroves, especially at dawn and dusk in warmer months. Bring repellent, and expect brief but heavy afternoon rain from June through September.
