Campgrounds near Cypress Lake, Florida
Cypress Lake is an unincorporated community in Lee County, sitting between downtown Fort Myers and the Gulf beaches of Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel. Its location off US-41 and Summerlin Road puts RV travelers within a short drive of Southwest Florida International Airport, the Caloosahatchee River, and the barrier islands of Estero Bay.
RV parks in this corridor lean toward large, full-hookup resorts built around snowbird stays. Lakes RV Park and Fort Myers RV Resort keep travelers close to the city, while Fort Myers Beach RV Resort, Gulf Waters RV Resort / Fort Myers Beach, and Gulf Air RV Resort put renters near the Gulf and the Estero Bay estuary system.
The surrounding region is part of Florida's humid subtropical zone with hot summers and mild winters, and a strong seasonal pattern of wetter summers, which shapes campground availability and reservation lead times. Renters typically use Cypress Lake as a base for beach days, wildlife viewing at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, and day trips to Sanibel and Lovers Key.
Things to do near Cypress Lake
Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is a nature preserve with boardwalk trails through wetlands where visitors can spot alligators and birds. It sits just minutes from Cypress Lake and works well for a morning outing with kids. The Edison and Ford Winter Estates in nearby Fort Myers add a rainy-day option that pairs well with a beach afternoon.
Gulf access is the main draw. Lovers Key State Park, just south of Fort Myers Beach, spans four islands and features a long beach with white sand and a natural shoreline. Lovers Key does not have camping, so RV renters day-trip in from parks in the Cypress Lake corridor. Sanibel Island is known for its shell-covered beaches and is home to the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, a favorite for birding and easy biking.

Fort Myers experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and mild winters, and the area is wet overall with a strong seasonal pattern of wetter summers. That pattern drives RV demand: the dry, mild months from roughly November through April are peak season, and many resorts in the area fill months in advance with snowbirds on monthly stays. Booking well ahead is essential for winter and spring break windows.
Late spring is a transition. The period from June to September is by far the wettest, and heavy downpours or afternoon thunderstorms are common in the warmer months. Storms typically build in the afternoon and clear by evening, which still allows morning beach and paddling plans.
Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk from August into October. Renters traveling in that window should watch NHC advisories, keep flexibility in the itinerary, and confirm each campground's evacuation policy before locking in dates.

This was my 1st time renting an RV. Cathy and Jose were fantastic to work with. From explaining the overall process to an “orientation meeting”, they were so helpful. Weather and traffic delayed my return by a couple of hours. Communication remained open and all was fine. Excellent vehicle and even better support where needed. We’ll definitely keep Cathy and Jose in mind for our next adventure 😉

My experience with Jose and his wife was amazing. They were very attentive and proactive with my needs. The RV was outstanding and we fell in love with not only the RV but the overall experience.

How to book campgrounds near Cypress Lake
Private RV resorts in the Cypress Lake and Fort Myers Beach corridor, including Lakes RV Park, Fort Myers Beach RV Resort, Gulf Waters RV Resort / Fort Myers Beach, Fort Myers RV Resort, and Gulf Air RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter and spring sites often sell out by late summer, so lock in dates as early as possible and confirm rig length, slide clearance, and hookup amperage when booking.
For state park camping, the closest option is Koreshan State Park in Estero, about a half hour south of Cypress Lake. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservations website or by calling 800-326-3521, and the winter release window fills quickly.
What to expect
Expect large, tightly spaced resort-style parks rather than wooded backcountry sites. Most properties in the Cypress Lake area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, paved or gravel pads, pools, laundry, and clubhouses geared toward long-stay guests. Pull-through availability varies by park, so verify site type at booking.
Traffic on US-41, Summerlin Road, and the bridges to Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel can slow to a crawl during winter afternoons and around holidays. Plan grocery runs and beach arrivals for mornings. Bring sun protection, insect repellent for evenings near mangroves, and a plan for afternoon thunderstorms in summer.
At Koreshan State Park, the 60 campsites include twelve tent-only sites, with all other sites being back-in RV sites offering 30 or 50 amp electric and water hookups; there are no sewer hookups, but a dump station is available at the campground.

On RVezy, motorhomes in the Cypress Lake area typically range from about $175 to $250 per night, while travel trailers and other towables generally run from $100 to $150 per night. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cypress%20Lake%2C%20FloridaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Cypress Lake?
Great news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cypress Lake. Florida's standard Class E license covers non-commercial RVs with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) under 26,001 pounds, which includes nearly every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on RVezy. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required for personal-use trips. You will need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and you'll confirm your ID through the platform during checkout, which usually takes just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license and you're set to roll.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/What protection is included when I rent an RV in Cypress Lake?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road around Cypress Lake with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. If you have a flat tire on Interstate 75, a dead battery at the Sanibel Causeway, or a mechanical issue at your campsite, roadside help is one phone call away day or night. Protection plans provide meaningful financial coverage so a small bump in the road doesn't disrupt your motorhome rental Cypress Lake getaway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book my RV rental in Cypress Lake?
You have flexibility on your side. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking, not individual hosts, and it includes a grace-period window after booking when you can cancel and receive a full refund. Specific terms depend on how far out your trip is, with additional considerations for hurricanes and other natural events, which matter in Southwest Florida during the June through November storm season. Before booking, message the host to talk through your dates, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Book with confidence and lock in your Cypress Lake RV trip while the best rigs are available.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Cypress Lake?
Absolutely, your pup is welcome on plenty of trips. Many Cypress Lake hosts list their RVs as pet-friendly, and you can filter for Pet-Friendly listings directly on RVezy to see your options at a glance. Once you're on the road, your dog will love nearby spots like the Lee County Dog Beach on Estero Island, the off-leash dog park at Cypress Lake Park on Winkler Road, and the shaded boardwalks of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve (leashed pets welcome on outer trails). Campgrounds like Cypress Trail RV Resort even have a dedicated dog park and doggie pool. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and bring a copy of your dog's vaccination records just in case.
leegov.com/parks/parks/dogbeachCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Cypress Lake?
Yes, and RV delivery is one of the best parts of an RV rental in Cypress Lake. Many local hosts deliver straight to your campsite or driveway, level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system so you don't have to tow or drive anything yourself. This is perfect for first-time renters or families flying into Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), about 15 minutes from Cypress Lake. Popular delivery destinations include Koreshan State Park in Estero, Woodsmoke Camping Resort, and San Carlos RV Park. Delivery fees are set by each host and depend on distance, so filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host to confirm pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cypress%20Lake%2C%20FloridaHow far can I travel on an RV trip from Cypress Lake?
You're sitting in the sweet spot of Florida for road trips. From Cypress Lake, you can reach the Everglades National Park's Shark Valley entrance in about 90 minutes (75 miles east), the Florida Keys in roughly 4 hours (210 miles), Naples beaches in 35 minutes (25 miles), Sarasota's Siesta Key in 90 minutes (75 miles), and Orlando's theme parks in about 3 hours (165 miles). Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, so check the listing for daily mileage limits and per-mile overage fees, or message the host about an RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a longer loop. Pro tip: build a Gulf Coast route from Cypress Lake up through Sanibel, Sarasota, and St. Petersburg for an unforgettable beach-hopping week.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/svdirections.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Cypress Lake to park my RV?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Cypress Lake. A few standouts: Koreshan State Park in Estero (about 15 minutes south) offers 60 shaded sites with water and electric along the Estero River for $26 per night plus a $7 utility fee. Cypress Trail RV Resort on Tice Street features lakefront concrete pads, a pool, and a dog park. Woodsmoke Camping Resort sits on 30 acres with two lakes and full hookups. Cypress Woods RV Resort off Luckett Road has big-rig concrete pads and two pools. San Carlos RV Park & Island Resort puts you close to Fort Myers Beach. Pro tip: snowbird season fills up fast, so book your campground the same day you book your RV.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/koreshan-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Cypress Lake?
Cypress Lake is genuinely a year-round RV destination, but the sweet spot is November through April when daytime highs hover between 72 and 82°F and humidity drops to comfortable levels. January and February average highs around 73°F with cool 63°F nights, perfect for sleeping with the windows open. Summer (June through September) brings highs near 91°F with daily afternoon thunderstorms and heat index values over 100°F, plus peak hurricane season runs June through November. For the best balance of warm weather, lower prices, and fewer crowds, target late October or early May. Pro tip: book your Cypress Lake RV trip 3 to 6 months ahead for winter dates, as snowbird demand drives up both RV and campground availability.
weather.gov/tbw/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be in great hands, and Cypress Lake is honestly one of the easiest places in the country to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a full orientation and walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the propane, slide-outs, awning, water systems, and dump valves so you're not guessing on day one. The flat terrain around Lee County means no mountain passes or steep grades to worry about, and Interstate 75 and US-41 (Tamiami Trail) are wide, well-marked highways. For your very first time renting an RV, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Cypress Lake, opt for delivery so you skip the driving entirely, and message your host with questions before the trip. You've got this.
fdot.gov/safety/What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is a phone call away whether you're stuck on Daniels Parkway, parked at Lakes Regional Park, or driving down to the Keys. Roadside assistance covers things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. For non-emergency questions about how the RV works, your host is the best first call, since they know their rig best. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after the trip if you need help with anything else. Save the roadside number to your phone before you leave Cypress Lake for a stress-free getaway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an RV rental from Cypress Lake across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Interstate travel is generally welcomed, so an RV road trip from Cypress Lake to Georgia, Alabama, or up the Eastern Seaboard is on the table. Most hosts allow travel throughout the continental United States, but always confirm the host's travel area on the listing or by message before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across the southern border. Travel into Canada may be possible with some hosts but requires their explicit approval in advance. Popular cross-state runs from Cypress Lake include the Florida Panhandle's 30A beaches (about 8 hours), Charleston SC (about 10 hours), and New Orleans (about 13 hours). Pro tip: confirm your route in writing through RVezy's messaging.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect and how do I budget for gas?
Florida's flat roads are kind to your fuel budget. Most Class C motorhomes around Cypress Lake get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans get 16 to 22 mpg, and travel trailers cost you 2 to 4 mpg on whatever truck or SUV is towing them. Florida gas prices typically sit close to the national average, with regular unleaded running around $3.10 to $3.50 per gallon. For a 500-mile loop from Cypress Lake through the Everglades and back, budget roughly $150 to $200 for fuel in a Class C. Pro tip: fill up at Costco or Sam's Club on Colonial Boulevard before leaving town, where prices typically beat highway stations by 20 to 30 cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Cypress Lake?
For winter trips (December through April), book your campground 6 to 11 months ahead, especially at popular Florida State Parks. Koreshan State Park opens reservations 11 months in advance for Florida residents and 10 months ahead for everyone else through the Florida State Parks reservation system at FloridaStateParks.org or by calling 800-326-3521. Private resorts like Cypress Trail and Cypress Woods also fill up quickly with snowbirds. For summer and shoulder-season trips (May through October), you can often book just 2 to 4 weeks ahead and still snag great spots. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 11 months before your desired arrival date and book the second the window opens for the best campgrounds near Cypress Lake.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Cypress Lake?
Driving an RV around Cypress Lake is refreshingly easy. The terrain is flat, roads are wide, and there are no mountain grades or tight switchbacks. Interstate 75 runs north to south just east of Cypress Lake, US-41 (Tamiami Trail) is the main commercial corridor, and McGregor Boulevard winds scenically toward Sanibel. Watch for summer afternoon thunderstorms from June through September, snowbird-season traffic from December through March, and the Sanibel Causeway toll when heading to the islands (check current rates with Lee County before you go). Hurricane season runs June through November, so monitor forecasts. Pro tip: avoid I-75 during rush hour (7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm) when local commuter traffic peaks.
fl511.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Cypress Lake?
Southwest Florida campgrounds are some of the best-equipped in the country. Most private parks near Cypress Lake offer full hookups (50/30/20 amp electric, fresh water, and sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, swimming pools, laundry, and clubhouses, since the region caters to long-stay snowbirds. State parks like Koreshan provide water and 30/50-amp electric at each site with a $10 dump station onsite for sewer. You'll find fresh-water fill stations at most campground entrances and propane refills available at nearby stations like U-Haul on Cleveland Avenue. Pro tip: if your rig has a 50-amp plug, bring a 50-to-30 adapter as backup since a few older Florida parks still run 30-amp only at certain sites.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/koreshan-state-park/experiences-amenitiesWhat features should I expect inside my RV rental in Cypress Lake?
You'll be comfortable from the moment you step inside. Most RVs on RVezy near Cypress Lake come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), bathroom with toilet and shower, dining area, air conditioning (essential in Southwest Florida), and seatbelts for passengers. Class A and Class C motorhomes often include a generator for off-grid power, a TV with streaming or DVD, and outdoor awnings perfect for shading you from the Florida sun. Many hosts include linens, towels, and basic kitchen supplies, while some offer them as add-ons. Pro tip: filter your search by Sleeps count and RV type, then message the host to confirm AC capacity, you'll want it cranking hard from May through October.
energystar.gov/products/heating_cooling/central_air_conditioningWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect from RV hosts in Cypress Lake?
Cypress Lake hosts offer a great range of add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include linens and towels ($25 to $75 per trip), kitchen kits, generators, portable grills, beach chairs, bikes, kayaks, and propane refills. Many also offer Festival-Friendly setups for events at Hertz Arena in nearby Estero. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Cypress Lake, Fort Myers, or Cape Coral, but a large share of hosts also offer delivery to your campground, vacation rental, or even RSW airport. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with daily allowances typically ranging from 100 to 150 miles or unlimited mileage options on some listings. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and linens to save yourself a Walmart run on day one.
visitflorida.com/places-to-go/southwest/How does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Cypress Lake?
Payment is simple and secure, handled entirely through RVezy, so you never need to hand cash to a host. Your trip total (rental rate, RVezy service fee, taxes, protection plan, and any add-ons) is charged to your credit or debit card when you book. A separate refundable security deposit is held by RVezy and released after your trip ends, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid deposit issues, take time-stamped photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the holding tanks before returning (or pay the host's dumping fee). That's it, you're ready to book your RV rental in Cypress Lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight in the Cypress Lake area outside of a campground?
You have several legal options beyond campgrounds for an RV road trip from Cypress Lake. Some Walmart and Cracker Barrel locations in Lee County allow one-night courtesy parking with manager permission, including the Walmart on Colonial Boulevard, but always call ahead and check posted signs since many Southwest Florida municipalities restrict overnight parking in commercial lots. Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops in nearby Fort Myers sometimes welcome RVs too. For longer stays, stick to licensed RV parks since Lee County zoning prohibits overnight RV sleeping on residential streets and most public lots. Pro tip: the Harvest Hosts membership network includes several wineries, breweries, and farms within an hour of Cypress Lake where you can park overnight for free with a purchase.
