Campgrounds and RV parks near Harlem Heights, FL

Beaches are the main draw. Fort Myers Beach on Estero Island is the closest Gulf shoreline, and Sanibel and Captiva sit just across the causeway, known for shelling and the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Lovers Key State Park covers four barrier islands and offers shelling, swimming, boating, paddling, hiking, bicycling, and wildlife viewing. Koreshan State Park in Estero preserves the site of the Koreshan Unity Settlement founded by Dr. Cyrus R. Teed in the 1860s, who moved to the site in 1894 to establish a community based on Utopian ideals. It offers paddling on the Estero River and access by kayak toward Mound Key in Estero Bay. In town, the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, Manatee Park on the Orange River, and the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve give families rainy-day and half-day options. Lakes Regional Park has paved bike loops, a splash pad, and a Wednesday farmers market.

Southwest Florida has two main seasons: a dry season from November through April and a wet season from May through October, with January through March being the most popular months for tourism. Fort Myers hits peak snowbird season from December through March, when the most popular parks book many months ahead. Expect one-month minimum stays at some resorts during that window. Late spring and early summer bring the highest temperatures and daily afternoon thunderstorms. The area has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, and heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms occur during the warmer months, and hurricane season runs from June through November with a peak from August through early October. RV travelers in this window should track forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and know evacuation routes off the barrier islands. Shoulder months, April, early May, early November, and early December, offer the best balance for families: lower rates, thinner crowds, warm Gulf water, and fewer storm risks than midsummer.

Most RV parks near Harlem Heights are paved or concrete-pad resorts with full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, pools, laundry, and clubhouses. Several are 55-plus communities, so families traveling with kids should confirm age policies before booking. Expect tight site spacing at the closer-to-beach resorts and roomier layouts inland. Hurricane Ian damaged many parks on and near Estero Island in 2022, and recovery is ongoing at some properties, so check current status and amenities when you reserve. Cell coverage is generally good throughout the corridor and most parks offer Wi-Fi. Bring bug spray for evenings, sun protection year-round, and a plan for afternoon thunderstorms May through October. Beach parking on Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel is limited, so bikes, e-bikes, or the LeeTran trolley are useful from inland parks.
