Campgrounds and RV parks near Holmes Beach, FL

Manatee Public Beach anchors Holmes Beach with lifeguards, a cafe, restrooms, and free parking that fills by mid-morning in peak season. The free Anna Maria Island trolley, run by Manatee County Area Transit, loops the length of the island roughly every 20 minutes from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., connecting Holmes Beach to Coquina Beach in the south and the Anna Maria City Pier at the north end. Bike lanes and shared-use paths run along Gulf Drive, and rentals are easy to find on the mainland and the island. On the water, families can kayak the mangroves at Robinson Preserve, fish from the Anna Maria City Pier or Rod & Reel Pier, and book dolphin or sunset cruises out of Bridge Street and the Cortez fishing village. Nearby De Soto National Memorial in Bradenton adds nature trails and a small history museum for a rainy afternoon.

Peak season on Anna Maria Island runs from mid-December through mid-April, driven by snowbirds from the Midwest, Northeast, and Canada. Daytime highs sit in the low 70s Fahrenheit in January and February and climb into the upper 70s and low 80s by March and April, with low humidity and generally light rain, though nights can dip into the 50s. RV parks in Cortez and Bradenton book heavily on monthly leases during these months, and short-term availability is tightest in January, February, and March. Spring shoulder weeks in late April and May bring warm Gulf water, thinning crowds, and generally dry weather before the summer rains arrive. Summer, June through August, is hot and humid with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms and warm Gulf water that draws family travelers on school breaks. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak risk from August through early October. Direct hits on the Bradenton area are historically infrequent, but recent Gulf storms have caused significant beach and campground closures, so trip insurance and flexible bookings are worth considering.

Expect a mainland-basecamp trip rather than beachfront camping. The nearest RV parks are five to fifteen minutes by car from Holmes Beach across the Cortez or Manatee Avenue bridges. Traffic on and off the island backs up on winter afternoons and summer weekends, so most visitors settle in, then bike or use the free island trolley for beach days. Sites at parks like Buttonwood Inlet RV Resort are typically paved or brick-pavered with full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, and Wi-Fi, with pools, laundry, and activity centers on-site. Sites can be tight, and some parks sit close to Cortez Road, so requesting a rear-of-park spot helps with noise. Insects, particularly no-see-ums and mosquitoes, are common near the mangroves and canals from late spring through fall. Bring repellent, plan for afternoon shade, and pack for warm Gulf sun year-round.
