Campgrounds near Kendall
Kendall sits in southwest Miami-Dade County, positioned between downtown Miami to the northeast, Everglades National Park to the west, and the upper Florida Keys to the south. RV travelers use the area as a base for city attractions and two national parks within an hour's drive, so most overnight options cluster in the agricultural belt around Homestead and Florida City rather than inside Kendall itself.
Private RV resorts dominate the local supply. Miami Everglades RV Resort operates a full-hookup property on wooded acreage near the park boundary. Goldcoaster RV Resort sits closer to the Keys turnoff, while Southern Comfort RV Resort and The Boardwalk offer additional full-hookup sites in the Homestead corridor. Florida Park Miami rounds out the nearby private options.
For public land camping, Everglades National Park runs two frontcountry campgrounds, Long Pine Key and Flamingo, both reachable from the Homestead entrance. Biscayne National Park and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park lie within roughly an hour, giving the area unusual variety for a South Florida trip.
Things to do near Kendall
Everglades National Park is the anchor activity. Airboat tours outside the park, ranger walks, the Anhinga Trail, and boat tours from Flamingo put visitors close to alligators, wading birds, and manatees. Boat tours from Flamingo cover Florida Bay and the backcountry mangroves, and paddling is a popular way to reach areas closed to vehicles.
Biscayne National Park, mostly water, offers snorkeling and glass-bottom boat trips over reefs and shipwrecks. Zoo Miami sits a short drive from Kendall, and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and Matheson Hammock Park cover the coastal side of the county.
Day trips south on US-1 reach Key Largo and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park for snorkeling, kayaking, and diving. To the north, Coral Gables, Wynwood, and South Beach are within reach for city outings.

South Florida runs on a wet-dry cycle rather than four traditional seasons. The dry season, roughly November through April, brings lower humidity, fewer mosquitoes, and the most comfortable temperatures for RV travel. This is peak booking season for every private resort in the area and for Everglades National Park.
Long Pine Key Campground is open from November through the end of April and closed the rest of the year, with the exact opening date varying by conditions. Flamingo Campground stays open year-round, though portions can close during wet-season flooding. Reservations are strongly recommended for Flamingo during the busy winter months, especially around the winter holidays.
The wet season, roughly mid-May through mid-October, is hot, humid, and prone to afternoon thunderstorms. Mosquitoes in the Everglades become intense, and Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in September. Many travelers avoid this window or plan flexible itineraries.

How to book a campground near Kendall
Private resorts handle their own reservations by phone or website. Miami Everglades RV Resort, Goldcoaster RV Resort, Southern Comfort RV Resort, The Boardwalk, and Florida Park Miami all take direct bookings, and winter sites often fill months in advance. Snowbird demand from January through March is particularly heavy, so book early and confirm cancellation terms.
For Everglades National Park frontcountry sites, all Flamingo and Long Pine Key reservations are handled by Flamingo Adventures, the park's concessionaire, and can be booked online or by phone typically up to a year in advance. Wilderness backcountry permits require an advance reservation via Recreation.gov, with the booking window opening 90 days in advance on a rolling basis, daily at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
What to expect
Expect flat terrain, sandy or grass sites, and abundant wildlife. Private resorts in the Homestead corridor generally offer full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, and pools. Common amenities across the area include heated pools, tiki bars, shuffleboard, and horseshoe pits at properties such as Southern Comfort RV Resort.
Inside Everglades National Park, facilities are more basic. Long Pine Key offers drinking water, picnic tables with grills, restrooms, and a dump station, with no hookups or showers. Flamingo Campground adds solar-heated showers, two dump stations, and electric hookups on select sites in the T loop.
Plan for mosquitoes year-round in the Everglades and heavy insect pressure in summer. Bring repellent, screened shelter, and shade. Cell coverage weakens as you move deeper into the park.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30 in South Florida, and RVezy's policies also consider major natural disasters, so you are not stuck if a named storm threatens your dates. You will see the full policy details on the checkout page before you confirm. Book early to lock in the best Kendall RV rental inventory, knowing you have flexibility if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Kendall?

Message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed so check-in goes smoothly.
miamidade.gov/global/service.page?Mduid_service=ser1487categorydog-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or vacation rental in Kendall?
Yes, RV delivery Kendall is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Larry and Penny Thompson takes reservations online and fills up fast in winter, so book 2 to 3 months ahead.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/larry-penny-thompson-park.pageWhen is the best time to plan a Kendall RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV rental in Kendall is mid-November through April, when daytime highs typically sit between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity drops to comfortable levels. This is also peak season for Everglades wildlife viewing because the dry weather pushes alligators, herons, and roseate spoonbills toward visible water holes. Summer (June through September) brings highs in the low 90s, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and active hurricane season through November 30. Shoulder months like late April, May, and early November offer warm beach weather, fewer crowds, and noticeably lower nightly rates. Lock in a December or January booking by early fall, since snowbird demand surges around the holidays.
weather.gov/mfl/I've never rented an RV before. What can I expect at pickup in Kendall?
First time renting an RV? You are in good hands. Every RVezy host in Kendall provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, propane, water systems, awning, and dump procedures. Most walkthroughs take 30 to 60 minutes, and hosts genuinely want you to feel confident before you pull away. You can message your host with questions any time, and many will send a video tour before your trip. RVezy's 24/7 support team is there if you hit a snag on the road. For your first Kendall RV trip, consider a Class C or travel trailer under 28 feet, which is easier to maneuver on Kendall's busy streets like Kendall Drive and SW 137th Avenue.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002138633-RentersWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my trip from Kendall?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Kendall, FL booked through RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the protection plan. One phone call gets help dispatched for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical issues, whether you are on the Florida Turnpike, in Everglades National Park, or somewhere along the Overseas Highway in the Keys. Your host is also a direct text away for questions about quirks specific to their rig. Cell coverage is strong throughout South Florida, but it can fade in parts of the Everglades and the Lower Keys, so download offline maps before you leave. Snap a photo of the roadside assistance number and keep it handy on your phone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736074-Roadside-assistance-for-rentersCan I take my Kendall RV rental on a road trip to other states or the Florida Keys?
Yes, an RV road trip from Kendall is one of the best ways to see the Southeast. Travel anywhere in the continental United States is allowed on most RVezy listings, and the Florida Keys are practically built for the trip, with Bahia Honda State Park (about 120 miles south) and Sunshine Key RV Resort being bucket-list stops. Heading north, you can reach Orlando in about 3.5 hours or Savannah in roughly 8. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance does not extend there. Cross-border trips to Canada may be possible with host approval, so message them directly. The Seven Mile Bridge between Knight's Key and Little Duck Key is the most iconic drive on a Kendall to Key West run.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/bahia-honda-state-parkWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for in Kendall?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you might think. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 16 to 20 MPG for a campervan, and your tow vehicle's normal MPG minus 2 to 4 when pulling a travel trailer. Florida gas prices typically run near the national average, and you will find plenty of high-clearance stations along the Florida Turnpike, US-1, and Krome Avenue near Kendall. A round trip from Kendall to Key West (about 320 miles) in a Class C will cost roughly $90 to $130 in fuel at current pump prices. Fill up in Florida City before heading into the Keys, where prices climb the further south you go.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground for my Kendall RV trip?
Booking campgrounds early is the single biggest win for an RV trip out of Kendall. For peak season (December through March), reserve 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for Florida State Parks like Bahia Honda, John Pennekamp Coral Reef, and Long Key, which open reservations 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system. Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park in Miami-Dade takes online bookings several months out. National park sites like Flamingo Campground in Everglades National Park are booked through Recreation.gov. Set a calendar reminder for exactly 11 months before your travel date to grab waterfront sites in the Keys, which sell out within minutes of release.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservation-informationWhat's it like driving an RV around Kendall and Miami-Dade?
Driving is very manageable once you know a few local quirks. Kendall sits along the Florida Turnpike (Homestead Extension) and is laced with wide six-lane boulevards like Kendall Drive, SW 137th Avenue, and US-1, all easy for RVs. Avoid driving downtown Miami or South Beach in anything over 25 feet, where streets are narrow and overhead clearances on causeways can be tight. Rush hour from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on the Palmetto Expressway (826) and the Turnpike is best skipped. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can produce sudden heavy rain, so reduce speed and use headlights. Choose Kendall RV rental delivery if Miami traffic makes you nervous, and head straight to your campground.
fdot.gov/traffic/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Kendall?
South Florida campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park offers full hookup sites with 30/50 amp electric, water, sewer, picnic tables, plus a pool and waterpark on site. Miami Everglades RV Resort has full hookups, wifi, a pool, and laundry. Boardwalk RV Resort in Homestead provides full hookups and pet areas. Public dump stations are available at Larry and Penny Thompson Park. Potable water fill-ups are standard at every full-hookup site. Even with full hookups, the South Florida sun can heat your fresh water lines, so fill your onboard tank for cooler drinking water on hot afternoons.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/larry-penny-thompson-park.pageWhat features and amenities come with most Kendall RV rentals?
Expect to feel right at home. Most motorhome rental Kendall and campervan rental Kendall options on RVezy come with a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning (crucial in South Florida), heating, dining area, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, generator, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and an outdoor shower for rinsing sandy feet after a Keys beach day. Wifi is hit-or-miss, so plan to use your phone hotspot. Each listing shows exact bed configuration, sleep count, and included gear. Filter by Sleeps 4 or Sleeps 6 to quickly narrow down family RV trip Kendall options that match your group size.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kendall%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for an RV rental in Kendall, FL?
Hosts offer a wide range of helpful extras to make your trip turnkey. Popular add-ons in Kendall include linens and bedding packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, beach gear, bikes, paddleboards, portable generators, propane refills, and dump and cleaning services so you skip those chores at the end. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Kendall, Pinecrest, or Cutler Bay, but delivery to campgrounds, Miami International Airport, or the Port of Miami is available from many hosts for a flat fee. Each listing details its mileage policy clearly: some include 100 to 150 miles per day, others offer unlimited. Bundle delivery, linens, and a kitchen kit on your first Kendall RV trip for a stress-free start.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kendall%2C%20FloridaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy rentals in Kendall?
Payment is simple and secure, all handled inside the RVezy platform with no cash changing hands at pickup. You pay with a credit or debit card during booking, and the listing's nightly rate, service fees, taxes, and any add-ons are itemized clearly before you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, with the amount depending on the RV and protection plan you select. It is released back to your card after the trip once the host confirms the rig was returned in good shape. Take a quick walkaround video at both pickup and drop-off, this avoids any back-and-forth about pre-existing dings and helps ensure your deposit returns smoothly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow should I prepare for South Florida heat and hurricane season in an RV?
A little prep makes summer travel comfortable and safe. From June through September, Kendall sees highs in the low 90s with high humidity, so run your roof AC overnight on shore power and park with the long side facing away from the afternoon sun. Reflective windshield covers (often included by hosts) drop interior temps fast. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the National Hurricane Center provides 5-day forecasts you can check daily. If a named storm is forecast within 72 hours of your trip, message your host immediately, RVezy's cancellation framework accounts for major weather events. Shoulder season (late October to mid-November) often delivers summer beach warmth with far less storm risk.
