Campgrounds and RV parks near Kensington Park, FL

Beaches drive most itineraries. Siesta Key, Lido Beach, and Nokomis Beach are within a short drive, all offering swimming, paddleboarding, and sunset viewing on the Gulf of Mexico. Between May and October, loggerhead and green sea turtles nest on area beaches, and lighting rules apply after dark. Inland, Myakka River State Park covers roughly 37,000 acres of pine flatwoods, prairie, and cypress, with hiking, mountain biking, a canopy walkway, and guided airboat and tram tours through alligator habitat. Oscar Scherer State Park protects Florida scrub jay habitat and offers trails, a freshwater lake with a boat launch, and swimming. In town, families can visit Sarasota Jungle Gardens, The Ringling museum complex, Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Fishing charters run year-round for snook, snapper, grouper, and sea trout.

Winter and early spring are the busiest camping months. From December through April, days are warm and generally dry, humidity is lower, and snowbird traffic pushes RV resorts to capacity. Sites at Myakka River State Park, Oscar Scherer State Park, and popular private resorts often book months out for this window. Late spring through summer brings heat, high humidity, and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms. Rainfall climbs sharply from June, with August the wettest month at around 160 mm. Lightning risk is significant, and biting insects are active. Availability at private RV parks eases, and rates typically drop. Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk from August through October. Sarasota faces west and is not always hit directly, but tropical systems have struck the region, so campers should monitor National Hurricane Center forecasts and follow park and county evacuation orders. Fall cools and dries out from mid-October, making late fall a comfortable shoulder season.

Terrain is flat, so RV setup is straightforward at nearly all local resorts. Most private parks near Kensington Park offer full hookups with 30/50-amp power, sewer, water, WiFi, and paved or crushed-shell pads sized for larger rigs with slide-outs. Amenities commonly include pools, laundry, and clubhouses; many parks skew toward 55-plus or long-stay snowbird crowds, so families should confirm age policies before booking. Insects, humidity, and sun exposure are constant considerations. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and shade. Alligators inhabit inland waters, including Myakka; keep children and pets away from shorelines. Cell coverage is strong in and around Sarasota but drops off in the Myakka backcountry.
