Campgrounds near McGregor, Florida
McGregor is an unincorporated community in Lee County along the McGregor Boulevard corridor, tucked between downtown Fort Myers and the barrier islands of Sanibel, Captiva, and Estero. RV travelers use it as a base for Gulf beaches, Caloosahatchee River access, and day trips to Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach, all within a short drive.
RV parks in the immediate area sit on flat, subtropical terrain with lakes, canals, and mature palms. Lakes RV Park is set beside Lakes Regional Park in south Fort Myers, while Fort Myers Beach RV Resort, Gulf Waters RV Resort / Fort Myers Beach, and Gulf Air RV Resort cluster closer to San Carlos Boulevard and the Fort Myers Beach causeway. Groves RV Resort rounds out the local options with full-hookup sites in the same corridor.
Most parks in this pocket cater to snowbirds and long-stay travelers, so shorter nightly stays are easier to find outside peak winter months.
Things to do near McGregor
Beach days are the anchor activity. Fort Myers Beach on Estero Island, plus Sanibel and Captiva, are all reachable within about 20 to 40 minutes from most nearby parks. Shelling on Sanibel is a signature draw, and the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge offers a wildlife drive, kayak trails, and birding.
Closer in, Lakes Regional Park connects directly to Lakes RV Park by footbridge and offers paved trails, fishing lakes, a botanical garden, and a playground. The Edison and Ford Winter Estates sit along McGregor Boulevard itself.
Paddlers can launch on the Caloosahatchee River or the back bays around Estero. Manatee viewing is best in cooler months at Manatee Park east of downtown, where the animals gather in the warm-water canal.

The McGregor area has two clear seasons: a dry, mild winter and a hot, wet summer. From roughly late November through April, days are warm, humidity is lower, and rain is uncommon. This is peak RV season, and parks in this corridor fill with monthly and seasonal guests. Lakes RV Park, for example, requires a three-month minimum stay from January through March.
Late spring through early fall brings daily afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, and heat indexes that regularly top 100°F. June through November is Atlantic hurricane season, with the highest storm risk from August into October. RV renters should track National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm evacuation and refund policies before booking in those months.
Shoulder months, particularly late April, May, and November, tend to offer the best balance of warm weather, open availability, and lower demand.

This was my 1st time renting an RV. Cathy and Jose were fantastic to work with. From explaining the overall process to an “orientation meeting”, they were so helpful. Weather and traffic delayed my return by a couple of hours. Communication remained open and all was fine. Excellent vehicle and even better support where needed. We’ll definitely keep Cathy and Jose in mind for our next adventure 😉
Dan C. - Mar 2026
My experience with Jose and his wife was amazing. They were very attentive and proactive with my needs. The RV was outstanding and we fell in love with not only the RV but the overall experience.

How to book campgrounds near McGregor
Nearly all campgrounds in the McGregor and Fort Myers Beach area are privately owned, so reservations go through each park directly rather than a central system like Recreation.gov or ReserveAmerica. Fort Myers Beach RV Resort is part of the Encore and Thousand Trails network and can be booked through its resort website or by phone. Gulf Air RV Resort is also within the Encore/Thousand Trails family, while Gulf Waters RV Resort / Fort Myers Beach, Groves RV Resort, and Lakes RV Park each take reservations by phone or through their own websites.
For winter stays, book six to nine months ahead and expect multi-week or multi-month minimums at the larger resorts. For state and county park camping in the wider region, use the Florida State Parks reservation system and Lee County Parks and Recreation.
Confirm rig length limits, age policies, and pet rules before booking, as they vary by park.
What to expect on the ground
Expect flat, paved or crushed-shell RV pads with full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, and mature landscaping. Sites in this corridor tend toward compact spacing typical of Florida beach resorts, so slide-out clearance and awning room are worth confirming at booking. Big rigs are generally accommodated at Fort Myers Beach RV Resort and Gulf Air RV Resort.
Amenities skew toward heated pools, clubhouses, shuffleboard, laundry, and planned social activities rather than wilderness features. Cell coverage is strong across all major carriers, and grocery stores, marine shops, and restaurants are within a short drive.
Wildlife is part of the experience. Alligators inhabit freshwater ponds, so keep pets leashed and away from water edges. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are active at dusk, especially in the wet season.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near McGregor, FL
Do I need a special license to rent an RV in McGregor, FL?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in McGregor, FL. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for non-commercial use of recreational vehicles, so your standard Class E (or out-of-state equivalent) covers everything from compact campervans to large Class A motorhomes for personal use. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens through the platform during booking. International visitors should pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) before arriving, usually under $20 from your home auto club. Most first-time renters in the Fort Myers area are surprised by how quick the process is, often less than 10 minutes from listing to confirmation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsHow much does it cost to rent an RV in McGregor, FL?
RV rental in McGregor, FL is more affordable than most travelers expect, especially when you factor in saving on hotels and dining out. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $150 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A coaches can climb to $300 or more. Pricing varies with season, with January through March being peak snowbird months along McGregor Boulevard, while shoulder seasons like late April and October usually offer noticeably lower nightly rates. Pro tip: booking a Sunday-to-Thursday stretch and filtering for hosts offering weekly discounts can cut your total by 15 to 25 percent. Bundling delivery with a longer stay often saves on mileage fees too.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my McGregor RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, so the terms are consistent and transparent. You'll see the exact cancellation terms during checkout and inside your RVezy account before you confirm. The RVezy customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip if your plans change. This is especially helpful for Southwest Florida trips during hurricane season (June through November), when weather can shift quickly. The upshot: you can lock in a great motorhome rental in McGregor for spring break or a holiday week with clear, predictable cancellation terms.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from McGregor?
Absolutely, and McGregor is one of the most pet-friendly RV bases in Florida. When searching RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). For a pet-friendly RV rental McGregor FL trip, you've got world-class options nearby: the Dog Beach at Lovers Key State Park lets pups swim off-leash in the Gulf, Lakes Regional Park has a fenced dog area along its 2.5-mile loop, and Koreshan State Park welcomes leashed pets on its riverside trails. Most local campgrounds, including Sun Retreats Estero Bay and Groves RV Resort, accept dogs with a small fee. Pack a cooling mat, since pavement gets hot fast in summer.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pet-policyCan the RV be delivered to my campground or vacation rental in McGregor?
Yes, RV delivery in McGregor is a popular option and a game-changer for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in the Fort Myers area will drive the RV to your chosen spot, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Common delivery destinations include Koreshan State Park in Estero, Sun Retreats Estero Bay, and private driveways or vacation rentals along McGregor Boulevard. Use the Delivery filter on the listing page and message the host with your address to confirm any distance fees. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=McGregor%2C%20FloridaWhat are the best campgrounds near McGregor, FL?
Some of Florida's best campgrounds sit within a 30-minute drive of McGregor. Sun Retreats Estero Bay has hundreds of full-hookup sites with concrete pads, a pool, and pickleball. Groves RV Resort is a popular pet-friendly option minutes from the Sanibel Causeway. For beachfront camping, look at options near Fort Myers Beach, though availability changed after recent hurricane impacts. Insider tip: Koreshan books up to 11 months in advance for January through March, so reserve early through the Florida State Parks reservation site.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/koreshan-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from McGregor?
McGregor's prime RV season runs November through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s and humidity drops dramatically, making it ideal for RV camping McGregor without cranking the AC nonstop. December through March is peak snowbird season, so book early and expect higher prices. May and October are the smart-money shoulder months with great weather and noticeably lower rates. Summer (June to September) brings 90-degree heat, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and hurricane-season caution, but it's also when you'll find the cheapest RV rental McGregor FL deals and have campgrounds nearly to yourself. Local tip: even in winter, pack a light jacket for evenings when temps can dip into the 50s.
weather.gov/tbw/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in McGregor?
You'll do great, and McGregor is actually a friendly place to learn. The McGregor Boulevard corridor and the wider Fort Myers area have straight, palm-lined roads, generous lanes, and flat terrain (no mountains, no white-knuckle grades). Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, water systems, generator, and dump valves so you're not figuring it out alone. If you're nervous about navigating to your campsite, ask about delivery so the RV is set up before you arrive. For your first time renting an RV, consider a Class C motorhome or campervan rental McGregor for easier handling. Drive your first few miles during daylight and you'll settle in fast.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/What happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You're never stranded on an RV rental in McGregor, FL. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, or lockout is just a phone call away. Your host is also your first point of contact for quirks specific to their RV, and most respond within minutes. Southwest Florida has solid cell coverage along I-75, US-41, and McGregor Boulevard, and major service centers like Camping World Fort Myers and North Trail RV are nearby if a deeper repair is needed. The RVezy customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's contact info to your phone's favorites.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the most popular road trips from McGregor, FL?
An RV road trip from McGregor opens up some of Florida's best scenery. Top routes include: Sanibel and Captiva Islands (15 to 25 miles via the Sanibel Causeway, famous for shelling), the Everglades National Park gateway at Shark Valley (about 90 miles southeast), Naples and Marco Island (35 to 50 miles south for upscale beaches), Key West via the Overseas Highway (about 280 miles, an all-time bucket-list drive), and Sarasota/Siesta Key (about 75 miles north). For a longer Florida RV trip, head up the Gulf Coast to Crystal River (manatees) or cross the state to the Atlantic in roughly 3 hours. Confirm any mileage policy with your host first; many offer 100 to 150 free miles per day.
nps.gov/ever/index.htmCan I take my McGregor RV rental into Canada or Mexico?
Travel into Mexico isn't permitted on RVezy rentals (insurance coverage doesn't extend across that border), but trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and their insurance, so message them through the listing before booking if that's your plan. Honestly, with the Florida Keys, the Everglades, the Gulf beaches, and Disney all within a day's drive of McGregor, most renters never feel the need to leave the state. If you do want a longer rent an RV in McGregor adventure, popular interstate routes head north to Georgia's Cumberland Island area or northwest to the Florida Panhandle. Confirm your route and mileage allowance with your host upfront for a smooth trip.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what's the gas budget?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you'd think for an RV rental Florida trip. Realistic mileage looks like this: campervans (Class B) get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes manage 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A coaches sit around 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, but expect 10 to 14 MPG combined. Florida gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and Costco on Gladiolus Drive or Sam's Club on Colonial Boulevard near McGregor are the cheapest fill-up spots. For a typical 4-night trip with 300 miles driven in a Class C, plan on roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Filling up before returning the RV avoids host refuel fees.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near McGregor?
For peak winter months (December through March), book Florida state park sites the moment your dates open: reservations are available 11 months in advance for residents and 10 months for out-of-state visitors through the floridastateparks.org reservation system. Koreshan State Park, Lovers Key, and Cayo Costa fill up within minutes for prime weekends. Private resorts like Red Coconut, Sun Retreats Estero Bay, and Groves RV Resort fill 3 to 6 months ahead in winter but often have last-minute openings in May, September, and early October. Insider tip: check the Florida State Parks site daily at 8 a.m. ET for cancellations, especially for waterfront sites. For a summer RV road trip from McGregor, 2 to 3 weeks ahead is usually enough.
reserve.floridastateparks.org/What are driving conditions like around McGregor and the Fort Myers area?
Driving conditions around McGregor are RV-friendly: flat roads, gentle curves, and zero mountain grades. McGregor Boulevard itself is the historic palm-lined route Thomas Edison helped plant, with a 35 mph speed limit and easy lanes. Watch for two things: low-hanging branches on some side streets near Cape Coral Bridge (know your RV's height, usually 10 to 13 feet), and summer afternoon thunderstorms that can drop visibility quickly between 2 and 6 p.m. The Sanibel Causeway has a height of 70 feet of clearance, so no issues there, but the toll is around $6. Avoid downtown Fort Myers River District at peak weekend evenings in winter; tight one-way streets aren't ideal for bigger rigs. I-75 is your easy north-south spine.
fdot.gov/traffic/What hookups and amenities will I find at local McGregor campgrounds?
Campgrounds around McGregor are generally well-equipped. Most private RV parks like Sun Retreats Estero Bay, Groves RV Resort, and Red Coconut offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer right at the site, plus pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi. State park sites at Koreshan provide 30/50 amp electric and water but no sewer at the pad (a dump station is on-site for $10 per use for non-campers). Potable water fills are easy at any campground office or local truck stops on I-75. For dump stations outside campgrounds, the Lee County Solid Waste facility and several Pilot/Flying J locations along I-75 are convenient. Many local hosts also fill the freshwater tank before delivery.
leegov.com/solidwasteWhat features and amenities will my McGregor RV rental have?
Most RVs on RVezy in the McGregor area come ready to camp: a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink; a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet; a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette or bunks; air conditioning (essential here); heat; and a propane or generator setup. Many have outdoor awnings, exterior speakers, and Bluetooth stereos, and a growing number include Wi-Fi hotspots or smart TVs. Seatbelts are provided for the RV's listed sleeps capacity, but always confirm seated travel capacity with your host. For a family RV trip Fort Myers area, look for bunkhouses or Class C floor plans with rear bunks. Linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are often offered as included or add-ons.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and options can I get with my RV rental?
Hosts in McGregor offer a great mix of add-ons that make life easier. Popular extras include delivery and setup (often $2 to $4 per mile from base), generator use (sometimes included for the first few hours, then $3 to $5 per hour), linen and kitchen packages ($50 to $100 flat), bike racks, paddleboards or kayaks (perfect for the Estero River), camping chairs, outdoor grills, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Mileage policies vary by host: some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, while others include 100 to 150 free miles per day with $0.30 to $0.50 per extra mile. Pickup and dropoff windows are flexible and arranged with your host in the booking chat. Pro tip: bundle add-ons in one message to negotiate a small package discount.
visitflorida.com/places-to-go/southwest/fort-myers/How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy charges your card through the platform when you book, and funds aren't released to the host until your trip begins, so there's no awkward cash exchange at pickup. The security deposit is separate from the booking payment and is typically held as a pre-authorization on your card during your trip, then released after a clean return. To avoid issues, photograph the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off, return it with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks (or pay the dump fee if your host offers one). Follow these steps and the vast majority of renters get their full deposit back without a hitch.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in an RV near McGregor besides a campground?
Beyond traditional campgrounds, you've got solid overnight options near McGregor. Many Walmart locations, including the Walmart Supercenter on S Cleveland Avenue, allow free overnight RV parking when you ask the manager first. Cracker Barrel on Daniels Parkway is another classic RV-friendly stop. For a more scenic free option, Harns Marsh and certain Lee County boat ramps allow short stays, but always check posted signage. Boondocking on public land is limited in this region; the closest dispersed camping is in Big Cypress National Preserve about 90 minutes east, where free primitive sites and developed campgrounds are available. For where to park an RV in McGregor itself, residential street parking is restricted, so daytime parking at marinas like Salty Sam's or campground day-use lots is your friend.
