Campgrounds near Montura
Montura is an unincorporated community in Hendry County, Florida, sitting between Clewiston and LaBelle in the Florida Heartland just south of Lake Okeechobee. The area serves as a rural staging point for anglers, boaters, and snowbirds, with U.S. Route 27 and State Road 80 as the main access routes for RVs. Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers is roughly an hour west, and the Atlantic coast beaches are within a scenic drive.
Most RV parks are clustered a short drive north and east along the lake, including Crooked Hook RV Resort in Clewiston, Moore Haven KOA on US-27, The Glades RV Resort, Golf and Marina, Meadowlark Shores RV Park, and North Lake Estates on the western shore. RV living is not permitted inside Montura Ranch Estates itself, so overnight stays happen at these nearby licensed resorts.
Expect flat terrain, big-rig-friendly pull-throughs, and easy access to boat ramps on Lake Okeechobee, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the country.
Things to do near Montura
Lake Okeechobee is the dominant draw. Bass fishing, pontoon rentals, and airboat tours run out of Clewiston and Moore Haven, and the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail circles the lake atop the Herbert Hoover Dike for cycling and walking. Moore Haven KOA sits about six miles from the nearest boat ramp and offers on-site boat storage, while Crooked Hook RV Resort in Clewiston is also close to public ramps.
Inland, Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest offers unpaved roads and trails through habitat used by Florida panthers, black bears, and white-tailed deer. Day trips reach Big Cypress National Preserve to the south, the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers, Gatorama on US-27, and Seminole Casino Brighton to the north.
On rainy afternoons, resort amenities such as heated pools, shuffleboard, and recreation halls fill the gap.

The Montura area follows a classic South Florida wet-and-dry cycle rather than four distinct seasons. The dry season runs roughly November through April, with warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity. This is peak snowbird season, and parks such as Crooked Hook RV Resort and Moore Haven KOA run full activity calendars with bingo, potlucks, and fishing outings. Reservations should be locked in months ahead for January and February.
May through October is the wet season. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily, heat indices routinely top 100°F, and mosquitoes are active. June through November is also Atlantic hurricane season, and Lake Okeechobee sits in a corridor where tropical systems have historically caused evacuations and temporary park closures.
Shoulder months, late October and early April, tend to offer the best balance of open availability, comfortable temperatures, and manageable rainfall for RV travelers with flexibility.
How to book
Every campground on the Montura list is privately owned, so bookings run through each resort rather than a central agency like Recreation.gov or ReserveAmerica. Moore Haven KOA takes reservations online through the KOA website and rewards program. Crooked Hook RV Resort, The Glades RV Resort, Golf and Marina, Meadowlark Shores RV Park, and North Lake Estates typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites, and transient sites are limited because many spots are held by long-term seasonal residents.
For winter stays, call as early as possible, ideally in late spring or summer. Ask specifically about big-rig length limits, 50-amp availability, pet policies, and any age restrictions, since several nearby parks are 55-plus communities.
What to expect on-site
Sites are generally level with concrete or gravel pads, full hookups, and 30/50-amp service. Crooked Hook RV Resort features shaded grassy sites, a heated pool, and an air-conditioned recreation building. Moore Haven KOA offers KOA Patio sites, a heated pool, on-site boat storage, and access to the nearest Lake Okeechobee boat ramp about six miles away. North Lake Estates sits on the western rim of the lake with a full range of resort amenities.
Cell coverage along US-27 is generally reliable, and most resorts provide Wi-Fi, though speeds vary. Expect wildlife: turtles, wading birds, and small alligators in retention ponds are common. Bring insect repellent year-round, sun protection, and a plan for securing outdoor gear during summer thunderstorms.
