Camping near Moore Haven, Florida
Moore Haven sits on the southwest shore of Lake Okeechobee in Glades County, at the point where the Caloosahatchee River meets the lake as part of the Okeechobee Waterway. The town is the county seat and a small, rural community in Florida's Heartland region, with a humid subtropical climate and a defined summer rainy season from June through September.
The area draws RV travelers for bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee, access to the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail atop the Herbert Hoover Dike, and a mild winter climate that fills nearby parks with snowbirds from November through March. Both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts are within roughly an hour and a half by road, making Moore Haven a workable base for day trips to Fort Myers, Palm Beach, or Fort Lauderdale.
RV options nearby include Moore Haven KOA on US-27 northwest of town, Aruba RV Resort near Lakeport, The Glades RV Resort, Golf and Marina, North Lake Estates RV Resort along State Road 78, and Lake Breeze RV Park. Most are full-hookup properties oriented toward long stays and retirees.
Things to do around Moore Haven
Lake Okeechobee is the main draw. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill from private guide boats or from public ramps at Alvin Ward Park in Moore Haven and other access points around the lake. Boat storage is common at area RV parks, and marina services are available at The Glades RV Resort, Golf and Marina.
Cyclists and hikers use the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail, a 109-mile paved and gravel multi-use path atop the Herbert Hoover Dike, part of the Florida National Scenic Trail. A popular day ride from Moore Haven is the paved 14-mile stretch south to Clewiston.
Other nearby stops include Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area for paddling and wildlife viewing, the Seminole Brighton Casino to the north, and Gatorama in Palmdale for reptile encounters.

The camping season around Lake Okeechobee runs year round, but demand is heavily concentrated in the cooler months. Winter visitors from northern states fill Moore Haven RV parks from late fall through early spring, drawn by mild daytime temperatures and low humidity. Many nearby parks, including Moore Haven KOA and Aruba RV Resort, host residents who stay for the full season.
Spring brings warm, mostly dry conditions and remains a strong fishing window before the summer rains arrive. Wildflower and bird activity along the dike trail is at its peak. Late spring transitions quickly into the wet season.
Summer is hot, humid, and stormy, with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms from June through September and heat index values that can climb to dangerous levels in July and August. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 and peaks in August and September, so trip plans in that window should build in flexibility. Fall cools gradually, with November returning to dry, pleasant conditions.
How to book RV sites near Moore Haven
Most campgrounds near Moore Haven are privately owned and book directly through their own websites or by phone. Moore Haven KOA takes reservations through the KOA reservation system. North Lake Estates RV Resort, Aruba RV Resort, Lake Breeze RV Park, and The Glades RV Resort, Golf and Marina each handle bookings through their own offices, and several operate as 55-plus communities with age restrictions.
For the winter season, sites at snowbird-oriented parks often fill months in advance, and many guests rebook for the following year before leaving. Shorter transient stays are easier to secure in late spring, summer, and early fall.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on the Okeechobee Waterway, such as Ortona South, are reserved through Recreation.gov, typically on a six-month rolling window.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a rural, small-town setting. Moore Haven has a population of roughly 1,500, so groceries, fuel, and dining options are limited. Larger supply runs are typically made in Clewiston, LaBelle, or Okeechobee.
Most RV parks in the area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, concrete or grass pads, laundry, and a pool. Cell coverage is generally reliable along US-27 and State Road 78 but can be patchy on back roads and out on the dike. Alligators are common in canals and along the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail, so keep pets leashed and away from the water.
Summer brings mosquitoes, high humidity, and lightning risk on the exposed dike. Bring sun protection, insect repellent, and flexible plans for afternoon storms.

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Moore Haven. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, so even a larger Class A is fair game with your everyday license. To book on RVezy, the primary driver generally needs to be 25 or older, and identity verification happens right through the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not the individual host, and there's a grace period right after booking so you can reserve with confidence. Plan smart and your Moore Haven RV trip won't blow the budget. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG, and a travel trailer towed by a half-ton truck lands around 10 to 14 MPG. Florida gas prices generally track close to the U.S. average, and stations along US-27 in Moore Haven and Clewiston usually have RV-friendly pull-throughs. Budget roughly $0.40 to $0.60 per mile for fuel depending on the rig. Pro tip: top off in Moore Haven or Clewiston before heading into the Everglades, where stations are scarce between here and Naples.

recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233570What are driving conditions like around Moore Haven?
Driving here is refreshingly easy. Moore Haven sits on flat South Florida terrain with wide rural highways (US-27, SR-78, SR-80) and almost no urban traffic, which is ideal for big rigs. Watch for occasional cattle trucks, slow-moving farm equipment near Lakeport, and the bridge crossing over the Caloosahatchee in downtown Moore Haven. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can dump heavy rain quickly, so pull over and wait it out rather than push through. Local insider tip: on rural roads like CR-721 at night, deer and the occasional alligator can cross, so ease off the throttle after dark for a smooth motorhome rental Moore Haven experience.

Mileage policies vary by listing, with some offering unlimited miles for in-state trips. Pickup is usually at the host's location with a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough. myfwc.com/recreation/cooperative/fisheating-creek/How do payment and security deposits work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, never cash directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held before the trip starts to cover potential incidentals, and it's released after the RV is returned in the agreed condition. Deposit amounts are shown on each listing so there are no surprises. To avoid any deposit headaches, do a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane level, and respect the mileage policy. Pro tip: keep gas receipts from Moore Haven stations as proof of refueling.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take an RVezy rental from Moore Haven into Canada or Mexico?
For an RV rental in Florida, the entire United States is your playground, including driving from Moore Haven up to the Florida Panhandle, Georgia, or further north if your host's mileage policy allows. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend across the southern border. Travel into Canada may be possible on select listings, but you'll want to message the host directly through the listing to confirm before booking. Most Moore Haven renters happily stick to Florida anyway, you're already in paradise. Pro tip: a 10-day loop from Moore Haven to the Keys and back is a local favorite.
