Campgrounds near Olympia Heights
Olympia Heights is a residential CDP in Miami-Dade County in the Miami metropolitan area of South Florida, sitting about 11 miles west-southwest of downtown Miami. The location puts RV renters within a short drive of two national parks, the Florida Keys, and the beaches of greater Miami, but the CDP itself is suburban and holds no campgrounds inside its boundaries. Renters typically base out of parks in Homestead, Florida City, and the Redland agricultural area to the south.
The closest options span a range of styles. Miami Everglades RV Resort sits on acreage among avocado, mango and palm trees, with Everglades National Park a short drive west and Key Largo roughly 30 miles south. Goldcoaster RV Resort, The Boardwalk, and Southern Comfort RV Resort cluster near Homestead and Florida City, and Florida Park Miami rounds out the nearby list.
For renters wanting a national-park experience, Long Pine Key and Flamingo campgrounds inside Everglades National Park are within reasonable driving distance and accept RVs.
Things to do near Olympia Heights
The area is built for national-park day trips. Everglades National Park is the headline attraction, with the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center near Homestead and the main park road running south to Flamingo on Florida Bay. Biscayne National Park, just east of Homestead, focuses on reef and mangrove waters and is best explored by boat tour, snorkel trip, or paddle craft.
Goldcoaster RV Resort is positioned as a base for these trips, a short drive to both Miami and the Florida Keys and near both Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. Families staying at Miami Everglades RV Resort can reach the South Beach Art Deco District, Miami Beach, museums, or Coral Gables shopping areas in about half an hour.
Key Largo and the Upper Keys sit roughly an hour south for snorkeling, glass-bottom boat tours, and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.

77° / 61°F 52 mmPeak RV season; snowbird demand fills sites early
South Florida runs on two seasons, not four. The dry season from roughly November through April is the peak window for RV travel: lower humidity, fewer mosquitoes, and manageable heat. Peak winter demand, December through April, fills campgrounds on weekends, and snowbird bookings push private resorts near capacity from January through March.
The wet season runs May through October and brings daily afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, and heavy mosquito pressure in the Everglades. The official Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the statistical peak around September 10 and most activity between mid-August and mid-October. Trip insurance and a flexible itinerary are worth considering for late-summer bookings.
Seasonal closures matter for national-park campers. Long Pine Key Campground is open roughly November through April and closed the rest of the year, while Flamingo Campground operates year-round. Private RV resorts in Homestead and Florida City generally stay open all twelve months.

I recently had the pleasure of renting Mark and Cyndi's RV for a two-week vacation across Florida, and I cannot recommend them enough! The entire process, from the initial inquiry to returning the RV, was seamless, professional, and friendly. They made sure I knew everything I needed to before embarking on my adventure and were readily available to answer any questions I had during my trip. The RV: Their RV was in pristine condition and exceptionally clean. It was evident that they take great pride in maintaining their vehicle. How to book campgrounds near Olympia Heights
Private RV resorts near Olympia Heights book directly through their own websites or through platforms such as Campspot and RoverPass. Miami Everglades RV Resort takes reservations online or by phone, and winter stays in the January through March peak fill early, so plans need to be locked in well ahead.
Inside Everglades National Park, two systems apply. Frontcountry tent and RV sites at Flamingo and Long Pine Key are reserved through Flamingo Adventures, an authorized park concessioner, with bookings accepted well in advance for winter. Wilderness backcountry campsites are booked on Recreation.gov, with reservations opening on a rolling basis 90 days before the trip start date. Park entry passes can be purchased at recreation.gov or paid at the gate.
What to expect near Olympia Heights
Expect suburban surroundings on the drive in and agricultural land, nurseries, and open sky once campgrounds appear south of Kendall. Sites near Homestead sit at low elevation with limited natural shade in some loops, so awnings and sun protection matter.
Amenities vary widely by park. Private resorts such as Goldcoaster RV Resort typically offer paved roads, full hookups with electric, water and sewer, plus restrooms, showers, and WiFi. National-park campgrounds are more basic: full hookups are not available, though partial hookups exist at Flamingo and dump stations are available at both Long Pine Key and Flamingo.
Plan for mosquitoes in the Everglades from late spring through fall, bring bug spray year-round, and check current park alerts before departure since occasional high water or storm events can temporarily close some backcountry areas.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Olympia Heights, FL
What does it cost to rent an RV in Olympia Heights, FL?
Renting an RV in Olympia Heights is more affordable than most people expect, especially when you compare it to Miami hotel rates. On RVezy, motorhome rentals near Olympia Heights average around $200 per night, while towable travel trailers run closer to $120 per night, with most hosts offering 10 to 20 percent discounts for weekly or monthly bookings. To find a cheap RV rental in Olympia Heights, filter by price, travel midweek, and book during the shoulder months of late April, May, or September when winter snowbird demand dips. Pro tip: a travel trailer paired with delivery to your campsite often beats a drivable motorhome on total cost since you skip the fuel burn of a Class A.
miamiandbeaches.com/things-to-do/parks-recreation/rv-s-and-campingDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Olympia Heights, FL?
Good news: a regular driver license is all you need to rent an RV in Olympia Heights. Florida exempts personal-use recreational vehicles from Commercial Driver License (CDL) rules, so even a big Class A motorhome is covered by your standard Class E license. To book on RVezy, you must be at least 25 years old with a valid driver license, and ID verification is handled right through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how quick the approval step really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat kind of protection comes with my RV rental in Olympia Heights?
Every RV rental in Olympia Heights booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Florida Turnpike toward the Keys or the Everglades knowing help is one call away. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV and gives you meaningful financial peace of mind. You choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host, so you decide how much extra protection you want for your trip. Pro tip: South Florida afternoon thunderstorms can pop up fast in summer, so the higher coverage tier is a smart choice for July and August trips in Olympia Heights.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Olympia Heights RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Olympia Heights is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, with a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If a hurricane warning or other natural disaster threatens your South Florida trip, RVezy support works with you on rebooking or refund options, which is reassuring since the Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. The exact refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel, and the full policy is on the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: contact RVezy support as soon as plans change so the team can help you rebook or refund quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my Olympia Heights RV trip?
Absolutely, and South Florida is one of the most dog-friendly RV destinations in the country. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Olympia Heights, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see plenty of hosts who welcome four-legged guests. Once you're on the road, you've got great options: Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah has an off-leash dog park 10 minutes north, Matheson Hammock Park allows leashed dogs along the bayfront trails, and Hollywood North Beach Park has a dedicated dog beach 30 minutes up I-95. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and to let them know your dog's size, this avoids surprises at pickup.
miamidade.gov/parks/amelia-earhart.aspCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or hotel in Olympia Heights?
Yes, RV delivery in Olympia Heights is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV right to your chosen campground, Airbnb driveway, or even Miami International Airport area pickup point, then set up the awning, level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means zero stress about driving a big rig through Kendall Drive traffic or merging onto the Palmetto Expressway. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer it, then check their delivery radius. Pro tip: delivery to Larry and Penny Thompson Park or the Miami Everglades Resort is a guest favorite since both have full hookups waiting.
miamidade.gov/parks/larry-penny-thompson.aspHow far can I drive on a typical Olympia Heights RV trip?
You can cover serious ground from Olympia Heights, and many hosts on RVezy offer generous mileage policies, including some with RV rental with unlimited mileage. From Olympia Heights you're about 15 miles from the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center at Everglades National Park, 60 miles to Key Largo, 165 miles to Key West, 230 miles to Naples on the Gulf Coast via Alligator Alley (I-75), and roughly 235 miles north to Orlando. Most hosts include 100 to 150 miles per night and charge a small per-mile fee beyond that. Pro tip: if you're planning the full Overseas Highway run to Key West, ask the host upfront for a mileage bundle, it almost always works out cheaper than paying overage at the end.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Olympia Heights?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Olympia Heights. The closest full-hookup option is Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park in southwest Miami-Dade (about 10 miles south), with 240 sites, a freshwater lake, and a swimming pool. Miami Everglades RV Resort in Homestead (around 20 miles) offers a pool, hot tub, and shuttle to Everglades National Park. Long Pine Key Campground inside Everglades National Park (open November through May) has 108 sites just seven miles from the park's main entrance. For an oceanfront vibe, Boyd's Key West Campground sits at the southern tip of the Keys. Pro tip: book Long Pine Key directly through Flamingo Adventures, they manage reservations for the concession.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhen is the best time to visit Olympia Heights in an RV?
The sweet spot for an Olympia Heights RV trip is November through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, humidity drops, and the mosquitoes in the Everglades calm down dramatically. This is also the prime dry season for spotting alligators and wading birds along Anhinga Trail. Summer (June through September) brings highs in the low 90s, intense humidity, daily thunderstorms, and active hurricane season, but it's also when you'll find the cheapest RV rental in Olympia Heights and have campgrounds nearly to yourself. Pro tip: late October and early May are the secret shoulder weeks, warm weather, fewer snowbirds, and noticeably better nightly rates.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to figure it out?
You'll be in great hands, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery, covering how to use the generator, slide-outs, water hookups, propane stove, and the toilet system, plus tips specific to driving in South Florida. Many hosts in the Olympia Heights area also send video tutorials before your trip so you can review at your own pace. You can message your host directly from the listing with any question before you even book. Pro tip: for your first trip, choose a Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in Olympia Heights, they drive much more like a large van and handle Miami-Dade streets with ease.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/basicinfo.htmWhat if something breaks down during my Olympia Heights RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you get a flat on the Florida Turnpike, the AC quits on an August afternoon, or you need a jump start at Long Pine Key, help is one call away. Your host is also typically reachable for quick troubleshooting like resetting the inverter or relighting a pilot. For medical or true emergencies, dial 911, you are never more than 30 minutes from a major hospital in the Miami-Dade area. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV exterior at pickup and save the host phone number, it makes any roadside call faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Olympia Heights RV rental on a road trip outside Florida or into Mexico?
Interstate road trips are absolutely on the table, and a classic RV road trip from Olympia Heights heads north on I-95 through St. Augustine, into Savannah, and up to the Smokies, all easily doable on a 7 to 10 night rental. Many hosts also welcome cross-state travel to Georgia, the Carolinas, and beyond, just confirm with them when booking since each host sets their own travel range. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across that border. Pro tip: another favorite local route is the Overseas Highway (US-1) from Olympia Heights down to Key West, 165 miles of bridges, beaches, and tiki bars.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/visitorsHow much should I budget for fuel on an Olympia Heights RV trip?
Fuel is easy to plan for once you know the rough numbers. Class C motorhomes near Olympia Heights typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 14 to 18 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG). Florida gas prices generally run a few cents below the national average, and you'll find plenty of large-format pumps at the Pilot in Florida City and the Wawa stations along the Turnpike. For a 4-night Everglades and Keys loop of about 300 miles in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: GasBuddy reliably shows the cheapest stops along US-1 and the Turnpike.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Olympia Heights?
Earlier is better, especially for the winter snowbird season. For the best campgrounds near Olympia Heights, book 4 to 6 months ahead if you want a December through March stay at Larry and Penny Thompson Park (reservations through Miami-Dade Parks), Miami Everglades RV Resort, or Flamingo Campground inside Everglades National Park (booked via Recreation.gov and the Flamingo Adventures concession). For summer trips, 2 to 3 weeks ahead is usually plenty. Long Pine Key Campground in the Everglades opens November and closes in May, with a mix of reservable and first-come-first-served sites at $33 a night. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months out at 10 a.m. ET, that's when many sites unlock on Recreation.gov.
recreation.gov/camping/poi/258742What's it like driving an RV around Olympia Heights and Miami?
South Florida driving is actually pretty RV-friendly because everything is flat, well-signed, and the Florida Turnpike has wide lanes and big shoulders. That said, downtown Miami, South Beach, and the Coconut Grove area have low-clearance underpasses, narrow streets, and tight parking that you'll want to skip in anything bigger than a campervan. Stick to the Turnpike, the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826), and US-1 south toward the Keys, all easy to navigate. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can be heavy but brief; just pull off and wait 20 minutes. Pro tip: if Miami city driving makes you nervous, choose RV delivery in Olympia Heights and have the host bring it straight to your campground, you'll only drive on calm rural roads.
fdot.gov/traffic/trafficservicesWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Olympia Heights?
Most campgrounds near Olympia Heights are well-equipped for a comfortable family RV trip in Olympia Heights. Private parks like Miami Everglades RV Resort and Larry and Penny Thompson Park offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer), pools, laundry, Wi-Fi, and dump stations. State and national park campgrounds like Long Pine Key are more rustic, no hookups, but include potable water fill stations, a dump station, restrooms, and picnic tables. Generator hours at Long Pine Key are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. only. For dumping outside a campground, the Homestead area has paid public dump stations along US-1. Pro tip: top off your fresh water at the host's home base before you head into the Everglades, fill stations there can have a line.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/longpinecamp.htmWhat's actually inside the RVs I'll find in Olympia Heights?
RVs listed near Olympia Heights are set up for the South Florida climate, which means strong roof air conditioning is standard (you'll want it), plus comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 people depending on size. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, microwave, propane stove, and sink; a bathroom with toilet and shower; dinette and couch seating with seatbelts for travel; and most rigs include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and an onboard generator. Wi-Fi is hit or miss, many guests use a mobile hotspot since cell service is solid throughout Miami-Dade but drops in the Everglades. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count on RVezy to match your group size exactly and look for listings that mention dual AC units for July and August trips.
weather.gov/mfl/What add-ons and pickup options do hosts in Olympia Heights offer?
Olympia Heights hosts offer a great mix of add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include camp chairs and outdoor table sets, kitchen kits with cookware and dishes, linen and towel packages, generator use, propane refills, bike racks, paddleboards (handy near Biscayne Bay), and even pre-stocked groceries. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Olympia Heights, with delivery available to nearby campgrounds, airports, or vacation rentals for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, you'll see the included nightly miles and any overage rate clearly on the listing page before you book. Pro tip: the linen package is worth it for short trips, dragging sheets and towels through Miami International Airport (MIA) is no fun.
miamidade.gov/global/transportation/airport.pageHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in Olympia Heights through RVezy, you pay the rental amount through the platform with a credit or debit card, no cash exchanges with the host. A separate refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup; the exact amount is shown on the listing page (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV). As long as the RV is returned in the same condition, with the same fuel level, and within the agreed mileage, the deposit hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup and dropoff, it is the easiest way to keep the deposit return drama-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere am I allowed to park my RV overnight in the Olympia Heights area?
You've got plenty of legal overnight options once you know where to look. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) rules limit rest area stays to 3 hours for non-commercial drivers, so rest stops aren't a true overnight option here, plan to stay at a campground or RV park instead. Great nearby choices include Larry and Penny Thompson Park, Miami Everglades RV Resort in Homestead, and Long Pine Key inside Everglades National Park. Many Walmart locations in Miami-Dade allow one-night RV parking with manager permission. Residential street parking in Olympia Heights is not permitted overnight under Miami-Dade County code. Pro tip: book your campsite before you start driving, on weekends in winter, the closest parks fill up fast.
