Campgrounds near Palmetto Estates
Palmetto Estates sits in south Miami-Dade County, positioned between the Miami metro area and the wetlands of Everglades National Park. The location works well for RV travelers who want city access without paying urban campground rates, and it puts Biscayne National Park, the upper Florida Keys, and multiple national park entrances within a short drive.
Private RV parks dominate the local inventory. Miami Everglades RV Resort is the closest full-service option, a large property with pull-through sites, full hookups, and pool amenities on tropical grounds. The Boardwalk, Southern Comfort RV Resort, Florida Park Miami, and Goldcoaster RV Resort round out the nearby cluster, most catering to snowbirds during winter and shorter RV stays the rest of the year.
Public campgrounds are farther out. The two frontcountry campgrounds inside Everglades National Park, Long Pine Key and Flamingo, are the closest NPS options and require a longer drive south toward Homestead and Florida City.
Things to do near Palmetto Estates
Everglades National Park is the headline attraction. Airboat tours operate along the park's northern edge, and the main park road south of Homestead leads to Royal Palm, Pa-hay-okee Overlook, and eventually Flamingo on Florida Bay. Biscayne National Park, just east, is mostly water and best explored by boat tour, kayak, or snorkel trip from the Dante Fascell Visitor Center.
Families stay busy with Zoo Miami, Monkey Jungle, and Fruit and Spice Park in the Redland agricultural district. Beach days at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne or Matheson Hammock are within reach, and the upper Florida Keys, starting at Key Largo, sit about an hour south. Miami's urban attractions, including Wynwood, South Beach, and Little Havana, are a straightforward drive north.

South Florida runs on a wet-dry cycle rather than four temperate seasons. The dry season, roughly November through April, is the practical RV season: lower humidity, minimal rain, comfortable temperatures, and active wildlife along Everglades trails and waterways. This is also when the frontcountry campgrounds inside Everglades National Park operate. Long Pine Key Campground is open seasonally from November through May and closed the rest of the year, while Flamingo Campground stays open year-round, though portions close during the summer wet season due to flooding.
Winter holiday weeks and the January-through-March snowbird stretch are peak demand across private RV parks and inside the national park. Sites for holiday weekends and the period between Christmas and New Year are often fully booked well in advance.
Summer and early fall bring heat, high humidity, daily thunderstorms, mosquitoes, and Atlantic hurricane risk. Many activities scale back, and backcountry-only camping becomes the norm inside the national park.

I recently had the pleasure of renting Mark and Cyndi's RV for a two-week vacation across Florida, and I cannot recommend them enough! The entire process, from the initial inquiry to returning the RV, was seamless, professional, and friendly. Here's what made my experience exceptional: Communication: Mark and Cyndi were prompt, clear, and informative in their communication. They made sure I knew everything I needed to before embarking on my adventure and were readily available to answer any questions I had during my trip. The RV: Their RV was in pristine condition and exceptionally clean. It was evident that they take great pride in maintaining their vehicle. The RV was spacious, comfortable, and equipped with all the essential amenities, making my vacation feel like a true "home away from home." Orientation and Support: Upon pickup, Mark and Cyndi provided a thorough orientation of the RV, ensuring I was comfortable with all its features and operations. Additionally, they were always just a phone call away whenever I needed assistance or had questions.

How to book near Palmetto Estates
Private parks near Palmetto Estates, including Miami Everglades RV Resort, The Boardwalk, Southern Comfort RV Resort, Florida Park Miami, and Goldcoaster RV Resort, take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Winter stays fill months in advance, so book snowbird-season trips as early as possible and confirm rig-length and slide-out clearances at older parks.
Inside Everglades National Park, reservations follow a separate system. Flamingo and Long Pine Key campground reservations are handled by Flamingo Adventures, the park's concessionaire, and can be made up to a year in advance, which is strongly recommended for winter holidays. For wilderness backcountry camping, an advance permit is required and reservations are handled through Recreation.gov.
What to expect near Palmetto Estates
Private RV resorts in south Miami-Dade are typically flat, paved or gravel, and geared toward big rigs with 30 and 50-amp service, full hookups, pools, and laundry. Expect a mix of clientele: seasonal residents, long-haul travelers, and short-stay tourists heading to the Everglades or the Keys.
Inside Everglades National Park, amenities are more basic. Flamingo has flush toilets, solar-heated showers, two dump stations, picnic tables, grills, and an amphitheater for seasonal ranger programs. Cell service is limited past the park entrance, tree cover is sparse at Flamingo, and mosquitoes can be intense outside the driest winter months. Bring insect repellent, sun protection, and extra water regardless of season.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Palmetto Estates, FL
How much does an RV rental in Palmetto Estates cost, and how can I save?
RV rentals in Palmetto Estates are surprisingly affordable, with travel trailers starting around $70 to $120 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $150 to $220 per night. You'll find the sweet spot for value in shoulder seasons like late April through early June and September through early November, when South Florida temperatures stay pleasant but snowbird demand drops. For a cheap RV rental in Palmetto Estates, filter by travel trailers, look for hosts offering weekly discounts, and consider mid-week pickups. Pro tip: booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead of winter holidays locks in the best Miami-area rates before the January through March snowbird rush spikes pricing.
visitflorida.com/places-to-go/southeast/miami/What license do I need to rent an RV in Palmetto Estates, FL?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Palmetto Estates. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special RV endorsement for any standard motorhome or travel trailer you'll find on RVezy, even larger Class A rigs. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and ID verification happens quickly through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license and you're all set. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the process is, and you can be approved and booked in under an hour.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/What protection is included with my Palmetto Estates RV rental?
Every RV rental in Palmetto Estates booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose from multiple protection plan tiers, and the right level covers most accidental damage to the vehicle during your trip. Guests select their coverage level (not the host), so you stay in control of how much protection you want. For longer trips down to the Keys or Everglades, choosing a higher-tier plan is well worth the small daily upcharge, and roadside assistance is included at every tier to keep your South Florida adventure on track.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Palmetto Estates RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets and manages the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), so the rules are clear and consistent across every listing. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, giving you breathing room to firm up plans before any cancellation charges apply. After that, refund amounts depend on how far out you cancel from your trip start date. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so you are not left scrambling. If anything changes, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Palmetto Estates?
Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Palmetto Estates welcome your dog along for the ride. On RVezy, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to instantly see listings where pups are welcome (many hosts charge a small pet fee, clearly stated upfront on the listing). Once you are rolling, Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park just minutes away has shaded, leash-friendly trails, and Black Point Park and Marina is a popular spot for waterfront dog walks. Heading down to the Keys? Bahia Honda State Park allows leashed pets in designated areas. Pack a collapsible water bowl, since Miami-Dade humidity can dehydrate dogs faster than you expect.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/larry-and-penny-thompson-park.pageCan the RV be delivered to me in Palmetto Estates?
Yes, RV delivery in Palmetto Estates is one of the most popular options, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig through Miami traffic. Many hosts will deliver the RV directly to your driveway, a nearby campground like Larry & Penny Thompson Park, or even down to Long Pine Key in Everglades National Park, then handle full setup and walk you through every system. To find it, use the Delivery filter on RVezy and check each host's delivery radius and per-mile fee. Pro tip: delivery to Miami-Dade campgrounds is often a flat fee under $200 and can be cheaper than the gas you'd burn driving yourself.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/lpkcamp.htmHow does mileage work, and how far can I realistically drive?
Most Palmetto Estates hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), with additional miles at a small per-mile rate clearly shown on the listing. Some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is gold for road trips. From Palmetto Estates, you're about 45 minutes to Everglades National Park's Ernest Coe entrance, 90 minutes to Key Largo, 3.5 hours to Naples via Tamiami Trail, and roughly 4 hours up to Orlando. Pro tip: if you're planning a Key West run (about 3.5 hours each way), filter specifically for unlimited-mileage listings to keep your budget predictable.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Palmetto Estates?
You have excellent options within a short drive when you rent an RV in Palmetto Estates. Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park (about 5 miles south) offers full hookups, a freshwater lake, and around 240 RV sites tucked into a wooded Miami-Dade County park. Miami Everglades RV Resort in Homestead has a pool and easy Everglades access. Boardwalk RV Resort in Homestead is another solid full-hookup pick. For a national park experience, Long Pine Key Campground inside Everglades National Park is just under an hour away. Heading to the beach? Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys is a bucket-list spot. State and national park sites release reservations months in advance, so book Bahia Honda the moment the window opens.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/lpkcamp.htmWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Palmetto Estates?
The sweet spot for an RV trip from Palmetto Estates runs from late October through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s, humidity drops, and mosquito activity calms down. This is peak season for South Florida camping, so book early. May and early June are warmer (mid-80s) but still very pleasant with shoulder-season pricing. Summer (June through September) brings 90°F days, high humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms, plus it's hurricane season, so flexibility matters. Pro tip: January and February are stunning for RV camping in Palmetto Estates and the Everglades, with cool, dry weather and almost zero bugs in the swamp parks.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I actually be okay driving one?
You'll be more comfortable than you expect, and you're not on your own. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, hookups, slide-outs, water, propane, and waste systems before you leave the driveway. First time renting an RV in the Miami area? Choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet) and skip the Class A until you've got a trip under your belt. Stick to I-75, the Turnpike, and US-1 for the easiest driving, and avoid downtown Miami and Miami Beach causeways. Pro tip: message your host before booking with any nervous questions, they expect it and love helping new renters succeed.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/driving-safety/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you have a flat, dead battery, lockout, or mechanical issue anywhere from Palmetto Estates to the Keys or Everglades, help is one phone call away. Your host is also typically reachable for quick troubleshooting (sometimes it is a fix you can handle in two minutes), and RVezy customer support backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Take a quick photo of the propane shut-off, breaker panel, and water pump switch during your walkthrough, since many road issues are simply a flipped switch.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Palmetto Estates RV rental out of state or across the border?
Yes, most hosts happily allow interstate travel, making an RV road trip from Palmetto Estates up to Savannah, the Smoky Mountains, or even Charleston completely doable. Popular runs include Miami to the Florida Keys (3.5 hours to Key West), Miami to Orlando (4 hours), and Miami to St. Augustine (5.5 hours). Travel into Canada may be allowed with specific host approval and insurance confirmation, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Heads up: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: confirm any cross-state plans in your booking message so your host's coverage is properly aligned.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat's a realistic fuel budget for my Palmetto Estates RV trip?
Plan smart and fuel won't surprise you. Class C motorhomes around Miami average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg combined). Florida gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, and you'll find the cheapest fill-ups at Costco in Kendall or RaceTrac stations along US-1. For a 4-day trip from Palmetto Estates down to Key West and back (about 350 miles), budget roughly $130 to $180 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fill up before crossing into the Keys, where prices jump noticeably past Florida City.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Palmetto Estates?
For South Florida winter camping (November through April), book as early as you can. Florida State Parks open reservations 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and prime spots at Bahia Honda, John Pennekamp, and Long Key fill within minutes of release. Everglades National Park campgrounds open reservations through Recreation.gov, typically several months ahead. Miami-Dade County parks like Larry and Penny Thompson tend to have more last-minute availability. Set a calendar alert for 8:00 a.m. Eastern on the day your dream site's window opens, and have your account logged in and ready to click.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Palmetto Estates?
Driving an RV around Palmetto Estates is very manageable once you know the patterns. The area sits just off the Florida Turnpike and US-1, giving you fast, RV-friendly routes south to the Keys and west to the Everglades. Avoid the MacArthur and Rickenbacker Causeways into Miami Beach (low clearances and tight curves), and steer clear of downtown Miami rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.). South Florida is flat, so no mountain driving worries, but summer brings sudden heavy rain. Pro tip: watch for low-clearance railroad bridges along older sections of US-1 in Homestead, and trust your GPS only after setting it to RV/truck mode.
fdot.gov/traffic/its/projects-deploy/cctv/floridatrafficnetworkWhat should I expect at campgrounds near Palmetto Estates?
Most campgrounds within an hour of Palmetto Estates offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), with dump stations available even at electric-only sites. Larry & Penny Thompson Park has full hookups plus a swimming lake and laundry. Miami Everglades RV Resort offers a pool, Wi-Fi, and propane refills on-site. Inside Everglades National Park, Long Pine Key is more rustic (no hookups, but potable water and a dump station available). For filling fresh water and dumping waste mid-trip, Flamingo Marina inside the Everglades and several Pilot/Flying J locations along the Turnpike are reliable stops. Pro tip: in summer, request a shaded site, since direct South Florida sun makes your AC work overtime.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/lpkcamp.htmWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Palmetto Estates?
You'll find more comfort than you'd guess. A typical motorhome rental in Palmetto Estates comes with real beds (often a queen plus convertible dinette/sofa), a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning (critical in Miami), a furnace, and seatbelted travel seats. Most rentals include a TV, and many hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, and outdoor grills as add-ons. Campervan rentals in Palmetto Estates (Class B) trade space for nimble city driving and still include a bed, mini kitchen, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: check each listing's amenity list for AC tonnage, since 13.5k BTU rooftop units handle Miami heat better than older 11k units.
energy.gov/energysaver/central-air-conditioningWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Palmetto Estates offer a menu of helpful add-ons: generators, bike racks, outdoor chairs and tables, kitchen kits, linen packages, paddleboards, beach gear, and portable Wi-Fi (typically $10 to $50 per item or per day). Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's location, often near Kendall, Cutler Bay, or Homestead, but many offer delivery to Miami International Airport, your hotel, or directly to your campground for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary by listing (look for the per-day allowance and any unlimited-mileage offers) and are shown clearly before you book. Pro tip: bundle the linen kit and outdoor gear; doing it via the host is almost always cheaper than buying it yourself for a one-time trip.
miamiandbeaches.com/plan-your-trip/transportationHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay directly through RVezy at booking using a credit card, which keeps everything tracked and protected (never pay a host outside the platform). A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before the trip, with the exact amount shown on the listing. As long as you return the RV on time, clean, and with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after the trip. Do a full walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff so there is zero ambiguity about pre-existing scuffs or dings, and your deposit comes back without friction.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I stay cool and safe during a summer RV trip from Palmetto Estates?
With a little planning, summer RV camping in Palmetto Estates is absolutely doable. Aim to drive in the morning before afternoon thunderstorms roll in (typically 2 to 5 p.m.), and book campgrounds with 50-amp service so your RV can run two AC units simultaneously when daytime highs hit 90F with high humidity. Hydrate constantly, stash sunscreen and bug spray (Everglades mosquitoes peak May through October), and keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center from June through November. RVezy's cancellation policy accounts for named storms, giving you flexibility if a hurricane threatens your dates. Shore power at full-hookup sites is your best friend in summer, since running AC off a generator burns fuel fast.
