RV camping near Pinecrest, Florida
Pinecrest is a residential village in Miami-Dade County, roughly 15 miles south of downtown Miami and about 25 miles from the main entrance to Everglades National Park. The village itself is suburban and does not host RV parks inside its boundaries, so most travelers base out of private resorts a short drive south and west, then day-trip into Pinecrest for Pinecrest Gardens, dining along US-1, and easy access to the Palmetto and Florida's Turnpike.
The closest full-hookup options sit along the corridor between Homestead, Florida City, and the Everglades gateway. Miami Everglades RV Resort is the nearest large park with pull-throughs and back-in sites suited to Class A and fifth-wheel rigs. Southern Comfort RV Resort, Goldcoaster RV Resort, and The Boardwalk cluster near Florida City and offer a mix of overnight and long-stay 55+ sections.
Florida Park Miami rounds out the nearby options and puts renters within easy reach of both Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park headquarters in Homestead.
Things to do near Pinecrest
Pinecrest Gardens is the village's main draw, with a splash zone, petting zoo, banyan grove, and weekend farmers market. Zoo Miami, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and Matheson Hammock Park are all within a short drive and work well for families with younger kids.
Most RV renters use Pinecrest as a base for the two national parks to the south. Everglades National Park's Ernest F. Coe entrance leads to Anhinga Trail, Royal Palm, and the Main Park Road out to Flamingo and Florida Bay. Biscayne National Park is almost entirely water, with ranger programs and boat trips departing from Convoy Point near Homestead.
Shark Valley, on the north side of the Everglades along the Tamiami Trail, offers a paved 15-mile loop for bikes and a tram tour past alligator-heavy sloughs.

South Florida runs on two seasons: a dry, cool season from roughly mid-November through April, and a wet, hot season from May through October. The dry season is peak RV season. Humidity drops, mosquitoes ease, and Everglades wildlife concentrates around remaining water. Sites fill fastest between January and March, and snowbird parks near Homestead often book solid for the full winter.
Spring shoulder months, late March through May, bring warmer days and thinning crowds. Migrating birds are active, and reservations become easier week to week. Long Pine Key Campground inside Everglades National Park operates seasonally from November through May and closes for the wet season.
Summer is hot, humid, and stormy. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily, and lightning shuts down open-air attractions and pools regularly. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through early October. Travelers in that window should build flexibility into their itinerary and monitor National Hurricane Center advisories.

How to book near Pinecrest
Private RV resorts near Pinecrest, including Miami Everglades RV Resort, Southern Comfort RV Resort, Goldcoaster RV Resort, The Boardwalk, and Florida Park Miami, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter stays should be booked several months in advance; many snowbirds reserve the following season before leaving in spring.
Inside Everglades National Park, the Flamingo and Long Pine Key frontcountry campgrounds are booked through the park concessionaire, Flamingo Adventures, rather than Recreation.gov, and can typically be reserved up to a year ahead. Recreation.gov handles Everglades wilderness backcountry permits on a rolling 90-day window. Biscayne National Park has no drive-in campground; boat-in sites at Boca Chita and Elliott Key operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Florida State Parks accepts reservations up to 11 months in advance for Florida residents and 10 months in advance for non-residents, through the Florida State Parks reservation system.
What to expect on arrival
Most private resorts in the Homestead and Florida City area offer level, paved or hard-packed sites with full hookups, including 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer. Wi-Fi coverage varies by park and site. Many properties skew toward long-stay winter residents, so expect quiet-hours enforcement and 55+ sections at some resorts.
Access from Pinecrest is straightforward via US-1 or Florida's Turnpike Extension. Big rigs should note that some older Homestead-area parks have tighter interior roads and low-hanging tree canopy; call ahead to confirm site dimensions for rigs over 35 feet.
Mosquitoes are a real factor from May through October, particularly near the Everglades. Pack repellent, screen rooms, and expect a shower rinse-down after any hike.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Pinecrest, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Pinecrest, FL?
RV rental in Pinecrest is an affordable alternative to hotels in pricey Miami-Dade County. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes average $185 to $325 per night, and luxury Class A coaches can reach $400 or more. Summer and early fall (June through September) bring the lowest rates because it is hurricane and humid season, while January through March commands peak pricing thanks to snowbird demand. To score a cheap RV rental in Pinecrest, book midweek pickups, look for hosts offering weekly discounts, and filter for delivery to skip rental car costs. Pro tip: booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead of a winter trip almost always beats last-minute pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pinecrest,FloridaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Pinecrest?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pinecrest. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any RV-specific endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every RV on RVezy. You must be 25 or older, have a valid license, and complete a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home-country license (an International Driving Permit is recommended if your license is not in English). First time renting an RV? Your host will walk you through every system at pickup, so you will roll out of the driveway feeling confident.

Every RV rental in Pinecrest, FL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pick up the keys. During checkout you choose your protection level, with options offering different coverage limits for damage to the vehicle. The plan provides financial peace of mind for common situations renters worry about, like a parking lot bump or a kitchen mishap. You select the plan, not the host, which means you control your comfort level. Pro tip: South Florida thunderstorms can produce hail and falling branches, so many first-timers in Pinecrest choose a higher tier during summer.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Pinecrest RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy. Your refund depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. You will see the full cancellation terms before you confirm payment, and RVezy support is available if plans change unexpectedly. Hurricanes and named tropical storms are very relevant for a Pinecrest RV trip from June through November, so reach out to RVezy support early if a storm appears in the forecast and they can guide you through your options. Pro tip: review the cancellation timeline at checkout so you know your key refund deadlines.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Pinecrest RV rental?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in Pinecrest is easy to find. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see many listings whose hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Hosts may include a small cleaning fee for pets, which is disclosed upfront. Once you have your rig, Pinecrest is a great launch pad for dog-friendly adventures: leashed pups are welcome on trails at Matheson Hammock Park just up Old Cutler Road, and at designated dog areas of Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. For longer trips, Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys allows leashed dogs in most developed areas (not on the beach). Pro tip: pack a cooling mat, South Florida pavement gets hot fast.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/matheson-hammock-park.pageCan the RV be delivered to me in Pinecrest?
Yes, RV delivery in Pinecrest is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if you are nervous about driving a large rig through Miami traffic. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at your campground, vacation home driveway, or even at Miami International Airport for fly-in guests. Filter for Delivery on the search page and check each host's delivery radius and fee. Popular drop-off spots include Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park and Miami Everglades Resort. Pro tip: ask the host for a full walkthrough at delivery so you know exactly how the awning, AC, and slide-outs work.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pinecrest,FloridaHow far can I travel from Pinecrest in my RV rental?

From here you are roughly 35 miles to the Florida Keys gateway in Key Largo, about 160 miles to Key West along the Overseas Highway, 35 to 45 miles to the Everglades National Park main entrance near Homestead, about 235 miles to Orlando, and roughly 350 miles to St. Augustine. Most hosts include between 100 and 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available for a small per-mile fee. Pro tip: message hosts directly to negotiate a mileage package if you are planning a longer route.

Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park in southwest Miami-Dade offers full-hookup sites a short drive from Pinecrest, with a lake and water park on-site. Miami Everglades Resort in Homestead has paved pull-throughs and a pool, ideal as a base for Everglades day trips. For a national park experience, Long Pine Key Campground inside Everglades National Park is about 50 minutes away. Heading to the Keys? John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo is a top pick for snorkelers and one of the best campgrounds near Pinecrest. Pro tip: book Pennekamp up to 11 months out, the most popular sites go fast.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/john-pennekamp-coral-reef-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip from Pinecrest?
The sweet spot for a Pinecrest RV trip is mid-November through April, when daytime highs sit at a comfortable 72 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, humidity drops, mosquitoes back off, and the Everglades come alive with wildlife in the dry season (gators and wading birds concentrate around remaining water). May through October brings highs in the upper 80s and low 90s with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and peak Atlantic hurricane risk from August through October. The trade-off: summer rates are notably cheaper and campgrounds have far more availability. Pro tip: late November and early December hit a great combo of pleasant weather, lower rates, and pre-snowbird crowds.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting from Pinecrest?
You will be just fine, and first time renting an RV in Pinecrest is one of the easier places to learn because most highways south of here (US-1, the Overseas Highway, Florida Turnpike) are flat, straight, and well-maintained. Your host will give you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, and the dump process, and they are a message away during your trip. If Miami traffic feels intimidating, choose delivery so the RV meets you at your campground. Stick to the right lanes, avoid I-95 during rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.), and watch for low canopy trees on residential Pinecrest streets. Pro tip: do a parking lot practice loop before heading out.
fdot.gov/safetyWhat if something goes wrong on the road during my RV rental?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire on the Overseas Highway, a dead battery at Long Pine Key, or a mechanical issue anywhere between Pinecrest and the Keys, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also reachable directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting (often a five-minute fix). RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Pinecrest, and snap a photo of the insurance and registration in the glovebox so you have them handy if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Pinecrest RV rental to other states or countries?
Yes to other states, no to Mexico. Most Pinecrest hosts allow travel anywhere in the continental United States, which opens up an RV road trip from Pinecrest to destinations like Savannah, Charleston, or the Smoky Mountains. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host directly before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance and protection coverage end at the US border. Popular multi-state runs from Pinecrest include the Florida Panhandle (about 9 hours to Pensacola Beach) and Gulf Coast loops through Naples and Sanibel. Pro tip: always confirm out-of-state travel in writing through the RVezy message thread.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat fuel mileage should I expect, and what is gas costing near Pinecrest?
Budgeting fuel for your Pinecrest RV trip is straightforward once you know the numbers. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes deliver 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches run 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer typically gets 10 to 14 MPG. Gas prices in Miami-Dade County are typically slightly above the Florida state average, with diesel running higher than regular. Pilot and Costco locations along US-1 and in Kendall are among the cheapest fill-ups within 15 minutes of Pinecrest. Pro tip: top off before heading into the Keys, prices climb noticeably past Key Largo.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pinecrest?
For winter trips (December through April), book as early as possible. Florida State Parks like John Pennekamp, Bahia Honda, and Long Key open reservations 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system. Everglades National Park's Long Pine Key and Flamingo campgrounds use Recreation.gov and release sites 6 months out. Private parks like Miami Everglades Resort and Larry and Penny Thompson typically need 2 to 4 weeks in winter, but summer weeks are often available days before. Pro tip: set a calendar alarm for the exact 11-month-out date and have your account logged in early, popular Keys sites can be gone within minutes.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Pinecrest?
Pinecrest itself is a calm, leafy suburb with wide residential streets, but you will encounter Miami metro traffic the moment you head north on US-1 or the Palmetto Expressway. Expect heavy congestion weekdays 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., and watch for low-hanging banyan and ficus branches on streets like Old Cutler Road and SW 67th Avenue (clearance can drop noticeably). South Florida summer brings sudden downpours, so pull over for 15 minutes rather than fight zero-visibility rain. The Florida Turnpike and US-1 south toward the Keys are RV-friendly and easy. Pro tip: avoid driving the Overseas Highway after dark, narrow shoulders and wildlife make daytime travel safer and far more scenic.
fl511.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Pinecrest?
Campgrounds near Pinecrest range from full-service resorts to primitive national park sites, so you can pick your comfort level. Larry and Penny Thompson Park and Miami Everglades Resort offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and dump stations on-site. John Pennekamp and Bahia Honda State Parks provide water and electric at most sites with central dump stations and bathhouses. Long Pine Key in Everglades National Park is more rustic, with no hookups but potable water and a dump station available. For mid-trip needs, travel centers in Florida City offer public dump and water fill services. Pro tip: carry a 25-foot fresh water hose and a sewer hose support, hookup spacing varies widely across South Florida parks.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/lpkcamping.htmWhat is typically included inside a Pinecrest RV rental?
Most motorhome rental Pinecrest listings come fully equipped and ready to roll. You can expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk options, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof and dash air conditioning (essential in South Florida), and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include a generator, outdoor awning, TV, Bluetooth stereo, and some have Starlink or mobile hotspot Wi-Fi. Travel trailers offer the same comforts minus the cab. Each RVezy listing page shows exactly what is included, with photos and amenity checklists. Pro tip: confirm AC capacity with your host if you are traveling June through September, a 15,000 BTU rooftop unit handles Miami heat especially well.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pinecrest,FloridaWhat add-ons can I get with my Pinecrest RV rental, and how does pickup work?
Hosts on RVezy offer a great mix of add-ons to make your trip easier, like bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, portable generators, bike racks, beach gear, camping chairs, and outdoor grills. Many Pinecrest hosts also offer paid dump and refill service so you can skip that chore at trip end. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, or Kendall, and includes a 30 to 60 minute orientation. Delivery is widely available as a separate option. Mileage allowances typically range from 100 to 150 free miles per night. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when booking, hosts often discount packages for repeat or longer-stay guests.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pinecrest,FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: everything runs through RVezy's platform with no cash or off-platform transfers, which keeps you protected. When you book, you pay the rental total upfront via credit or debit card. A separate refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged unless there is damage, excess mileage, or a missed cleaning. After a smooth return, the hold drops off within a few business days. To avoid any deposit issues, take date-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and return, follow the host's fuel and waste-tank return instructions, and stay within your mileage allowance. Pro tip: keep all gas receipts so you can prove a full tank at return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat is one local insider tip for an RV trip starting in Pinecrest?
Here is a move locals love: pick up your RV in Pinecrest on a Thursday morning, stop at Robert Is Here fruit stand in Homestead for legendary key lime milkshakes and tropical fruit (seasonal hours apply), then continue to Flamingo Campground inside Everglades National Park for sunset over Florida Bay, where you will often spot manatees and crocodiles right from the marina. Spend Friday and Saturday exploring the park, then head to John Pennekamp in Key Largo for Sunday snorkeling before returning Monday to beat weekend Keys traffic. This loop keeps total mileage around 200 miles, well under most hosts' included allowance. Pro tip: fuel up in Florida City, it is the last reliably cheap gas before the Keys.
