Campgrounds near South Bay, Florida
South Bay sits at the southern edge of Lake Okeechobee in western Palm Beach County, roughly 40 miles west of West Palm Beach and the Atlantic coast along US Highway 441. The surrounding area is flat and agricultural, defined by sugar-cane fields, canals, and the Herbert Hoover Dike that rings the lake. Most RV camping in the area is lake-oriented, with fishing, boating, and birdwatching as the primary draws.
The closest option is Torry Island Campground, a City of Belle Glade facility with full-hookup RV sites and separate tent areas, reached by a swing bridge across the rim canal. Crooked Hook RV Resort and J and S Fish Camp offer additional lake-region options, while Indiantown Marina lies to the northeast along the St. Lucie Canal. For families heading east toward the coast, West Palm Beach / Lion Country Safari KOA Journey sits adjacent to a drive-through wildlife park.
Expect a mix of long-term snowbirds and short-stay anglers at the lakeside parks, and a more resort-style layout at the KOA closer to the coast.
Things to do near South Bay
Fishing dominates. Lake Okeechobee is widely marketed as a top largemouth bass destination, with catfish, crappie, and bluegill also common. Boat ramps at Torry Island and along the rim canal provide direct lake access, and a bait and tackle shop sits next to the ramp at Torry Island Campground.
On land, the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail circles the lake atop the Herbert Hoover Dike, offering miles of paved and gravel path for hiking and cycling. Birdwatchers look for herons, egrets, ospreys, bald eagles, and the Everglade snail kite in the surrounding marshes, and an observation tower at Torry Island helps with lake views.
For families, the Lion Country Safari drive-through park sits about an hour east near Loxahatchee and pairs naturally with a KOA overnight. Everglades day trips and the lakeside towns of Clewiston and Pahokee are all within short driving distance.

The dry season, running roughly from late November through April, is the practical window for RV travel in this part of Florida. January is the coolest month in the Belle Glade area, with an average high near 73°F (23°C) and an average low around 57°F (14°C). Humidity is lower, bass fishing is strong, and snowbird occupancy at lakeside parks generally peaks between January and March.
Spring stays warm and mostly dry through May, then the wet season arrives. Summer is hot and humid, with July and August daily highs near 90°F (32°C) and overnight lows in the mid 70s°F (mid 20s°C). Rainfall concentrates in afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August, September, and October. Travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm cancellation policies before booking during those months. Late October and November often deliver a favorable balance of open sites, drier weather, and cooler nights.

How to book campgrounds near South Bay
Reservation systems vary by operator. Torry Island Campground is run by the City of Belle Glade and typically books by phone or through its own city page rather than a national portal. Private parks such as Crooked Hook RV Resort and J and S Fish Camp handle reservations directly through their own offices. Indiantown Marina books RV and marina stays through the marina office.
The West Palm Beach / Lion Country Safari KOA Journey currently takes reservations by phone rather than through the standard KOA website; call the campground or the KOA reservations line. For winter stays between January and March, book several weeks to a few months ahead, especially for full-hookup and any waterfront site. Ask about rig-length limits, 50-amp availability, and pet rules, and confirm gate-access procedures for late arrivals.
What to expect on arrival
The landscape is agricultural and low-lying. Sugar-cane fields, canals, and the raised earthen dike around Lake Okeechobee define the horizon. Cell coverage is generally reliable near town but can thin along parts of the lake shore. The road onto Torry Island crosses a historic swing bridge across the rim canal, so oversized rigs should confirm clearance and bridge hours before arrival.
Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are common in warmer months, so campers should pack repellent and screens. Airboats operate on the rim canal and lake and can be audible at lakeside sites. Alligators are present in the canals and along the lake shoreline; keep pets leashed and away from the water.
Groceries, fuel, and basic RV supplies are available in Belle Glade and Clewiston. Larger hospitals and shopping sit east in West Palm Beach.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near South Bay, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in South Bay, FL?
RV rental in South Bay, FL is one of Florida's best values, with travel trailers often starting around $90 to $130 per night, campervans averaging $125 to $180, and Class C motorhomes typically $175 to $260 per night through RVezy. Because South Bay sits in the agricultural heart of Palm Beach County rather than along the pricier Atlantic coast, you'll see noticeably lower nightly rates than in Miami or West Palm Beach just an hour east. To score a cheap RV rental South Bay travelers love, book midweek, target shoulder months like late April or early November, and use the price filter on RVezy to sort by budget. Pro tip: longer stays of 5 or more nights often unlock weekly discounts straight from the host.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=South%20Bay%2C%20FloridaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in South Bay, Florida?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in South Bay. Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License for personal-use recreational vehicles, so your standard Class E Florida license or out-of-state equivalent works for Class A, Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised by how simple the paperwork really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection comes with my South Bay RV rental?
Every RV rental in South Bay, FL booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Lake Okeechobee or the Everglades knowing you're covered. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV (this is coverage, not traditional insurance), and during checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, whether that's a quick weekend on the levee or a two-week motorhome rental South Bay road trip down to the Keys. Hosts don't pick your coverage, you do, which keeps things transparent. Pro tip: pair the protection plan with a quick walk-around video at pickup for ultimate peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my RV rental in South Bay?
You've got flexibility built in. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy for every booking in South Bay, FL, and it includes a grace-period window after you book where you can cancel for a full refund. Refund amounts after that depend on how close you are to your trip start date, and RVezy also has provisions for major disruptions like hurricanes or tropical storms, which matter in this part of Florida from June through November. Because the policy is handled by RVezy directly, you don't have to negotiate with individual hosts. Book with confidence, then review the full policy details on your booking page before your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a South Bay RV rental?
Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental South Bay options are available on RVezy. Just turn on the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) with no fuss. Once you're rolling, the area is genuinely dog-friendly: the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail on top of the Herbert Hoover Dike runs right past South Bay and is great for leashed walks, and South Bay RV Campground at 100 Levee Road allows pets at most sites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask about their cleaning expectations, which keeps your deposit return smooth.
discover.pbcgov.org/parks/Pages/Camping-SouthBay.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground in South Bay?
Absolutely, RV delivery South Bay is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig altogether. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your RV directly at South Bay RV Campground on Levee Road, at nearby Lake Okeechobee parks like Torry Island Campground in Belle Glade, or even to a private property or family driveway. They'll level it, connect water, electric, and sewer, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this. Pro tip: ask about a delivery radius up front, since fees usually scale with distance from the host's location.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106274-Delivery-optionsHow far can I drive on a South Bay RV trip?
Quite far, and South Bay is a fantastic launchpad. From here, Miami is about 70 miles southeast (around 90 minutes), Naples and the Gulf Coast sit roughly 100 miles west via US-27 and I-75, Orlando is about 150 miles north, and the Florida Keys begin near Key Largo around 130 miles south, with Key West about 230 miles total. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) and charge a small per-mile fee beyond that. If you're planning a big loop, look for RV rental with unlimited mileage using the listing filters. Pro tip: ask the host to bundle a discounted mileage package for week-long trips.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=South%20Bay%2C%20FloridaWhere can I camp with my RV near South Bay?
South Bay is surrounded by some of the best campgrounds near South Bay you'll find in inland Florida. South Bay RV Campground at 100 Levee Road sits right at the base of the Herbert Hoover Dike with full hookups and easy boat-ramp access to Lake Okeechobee. Torry Island Campground & Marina in nearby Belle Glade is a local favorite for bass anglers. Roughly 30 miles up the lake, Roland Martin Marina & Resort in Clewiston offers waterfront RV sites and on-site dining, and Okeechobee KOA on US-441 South features pools and family amenities. Pro tip: reserve South Bay RV Campground several months ahead for January through March, peak snowbird season.
discover.pbcgov.org/parks/Pages/Camping-SouthBay.aspxWhen is the best time to take a South Bay RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping South Bay is November through April, when daytime highs typically range from the low 70s to mid 80s Fahrenheit, humidity drops, and rainfall is at its lowest. This is also when Lake Okeechobee bass fishing peaks and the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail is most pleasant for biking. Summer (June through September) brings highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane season, so many seasonal travelers skip it. Pro tip: book mid-November or late April for a great combo of warm weather, lower rates, and uncrowded sites at South Bay RV Campground.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around South Bay?
You're going to do great, and South Bay is one of the easier places in Florida to learn. The roads around town (US-27, SR-80, and Levee Road) are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked compared to coastal cities, which makes them ideal for a first time renting an RV. Your RVezy host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, leveling, hookups, and tank dumping, and you can message them anytime during your trip. If you're nervous about driving, book a host who offers delivery so the RV comes to you. Pro tip: take a short practice loop on quiet local roads before heading out on the highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/sections/360008168834-Renter-tipsWhat happens if the RV breaks down on my South Bay trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in South Bay, FL through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on US-27, a dead battery at South Bay RV Campground, or a tow situation near the Everglades is handled by professionals dispatched directly to you. You can also message your host through the RVezy app for help with quirks specific to the rig, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so you have everything ready to share if roadside ever needs to find you on a back road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take my South Bay RV rental to other states or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from South Bay across state lines is totally doable, and many RVezy hosts welcome it. Popular routes head north to Georgia and the Carolinas via I-95, or west to Alabama along I-10. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and protection plan, so message them directly from the listing page before booking to confirm. One important note: travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a 2-week loop from South Bay up through St. Augustine, Savannah, and Charleston makes a phenomenal first multi-state adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Realistic expectations make for a happy trip. A Class B campervan rental South Bay typically gets 18-22 mpg, a Class C motorhome averages 8-12 mpg, and large Class A rigs run 6-10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect 10-14 mpg combined. Florida gas prices around South Bay tend to track close to the state average, and the closest stations are along US-27 in town and in Belle Glade just minutes away. Budget for propane refills (around $20-$35) and campground fees ($35-$75/night) on top of fuel. Pro tip: fill up in South Bay or Clewiston before heading toward the Keys, where Overseas Highway gas prices climb noticeably.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near South Bay?
Book early and you'll thank yourself. South Bay RV Campground is run by Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation and fills up months in advance during the snowbird season (January through March), so reserve as early as 6 months out for winter trips. Florida State Parks like Jonathan Dickinson (about 70 miles east) open reservations 11 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and they're often gone within minutes for prime weekends. Summer and fall are far easier, you can usually grab a spot 1-2 weeks out. Pro tip: combine a weeknight stay at South Bay RV Campground with a weekend at a coastal park to dodge the Saturday rush.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around South Bay?
Driving in South Bay is refreshingly stress-free for RVers. The terrain is dead flat, there are no mountains or steep grades, and the main routes (US-27, SR-80, and US-441) are wide two- and four-lane highways with generous shoulders. Watch for sugarcane trucks during harvest season (October through April), occasional fog on early mornings near the lake, and afternoon thunderstorms in summer that can drop visibility fast. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so check NOAA forecasts before any extended trip. Pro tip: avoid driving the rural stretches of US-27 at dusk, when wildlife crossings spike near the Everglades Agricultural Area.
nhc.noaa.gov/climo/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near South Bay?
You're in good shape. Most campgrounds near South Bay offer full hookups including 30 and 50-amp electric, fresh water, and sewer at each site. South Bay RV Campground has level sites, a bathhouse, laundry, and an on-site dump station, plus a boat ramp for Lake Okeechobee access. Roland Martin Marina in Clewiston and Okeechobee KOA offer pools, dining, and propane fills. For overnight needs between stops, plan around real campground reservations rather than rest areas. Pro tip: top off fresh water and dump tanks at South Bay RV Campground before heading toward dispersed sites in the Big Cypress area.
discover.pbcgov.org/parks/Pages/Camping-SouthBay.aspxWhat's actually inside the RVs available in South Bay?
Expect more comforts than you'd guess. RVs on RVezy in South Bay typically come with a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and bunk options (sleeping 2 to 8), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a full bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning (a must for Florida), heating, a TV with optional streaming, and seatbelted travel seats. Larger Class A and Class C rigs often include a generator, outdoor speakers, and an awning. Each listing on RVezy shows exact amenities, sleep count, and photos. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and look for listings with a generator if you plan to dry camp near Lake Okeechobee where hookups aren't guaranteed.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=South%20Bay%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts on RVezy in South Bay offer a fun menu of add-ons that can level up your trip. Common extras include bedding and linen packages ($30-$60), kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, bikes (perfect for the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail), generators, propane fire pits, kayaks, and even fishing gear for Lake Okeechobee bass. Most hosts offer flexible pickup and drop-off windows; some include delivery to South Bay RV Campground or your driveway for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary, with daily allowances usually 100-150 miles and overage fees around $0.25-$0.45 per mile. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking instead of asking after, hosts often discount them when packaged together.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=South%20Bay%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in South Bay, FL on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior and exterior, and report any pre-existing damage to your host through the RVezy app. Pro tip: return with a full fuel tank and empty waste tanks (unless your host includes a dump service) for the fastest deposit return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAny insider tip for making my South Bay RV trip extra memorable?
Here's one most visitors miss: South Bay sits on the southeast corner of Lake Okeechobee, the largest freshwater lake in Florida, and the sunsets from atop the Herbert Hoover Dike are spectacular, with wide-open western views unobstructed by buildings. Walk or bike up the levee right behind South Bay RV Campground around an hour before sundown, bring a camp chair, and you'll have one of the best free views in South Florida. For a deeper Florida RV trip from South Bay, plan a sunrise stop at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge (about 35 minutes east) to spot alligators, herons, and roseate spoonbills before the crowds arrive.
