Temple Terrace sits just northeast of Tampa along the Hillsborough River, putting RV travelers within easy reach of Busch Gardens, the Tampa Riverwalk, and Gulf Coast beaches roughly an hour west. The area mixes private RV resorts catering to snowbirds with a nearby state park campground, giving renters a choice between full-hookup resort sites and shaded riverside sites.
Closest private options include Happy Travelers RV Park and Tampa RV Park Camp Nebraska, both within minutes of the city. Things to do near Temple Terrace
Hillsborough River State Park anchors the outdoor options, with paddling on Class II rapids, miles of shaded hiking trails, a large outdoor swimming pool, and the reconstructed Fort Foster Historic Site from the Second Seminole War. Canoe, kayak, and bike rentals are available at the park concession. In town, families head to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay roughly 10 minutes south for rides and animal encounters, and to Adventure Island for water park days in summer. The Tampa Riverwalk strings together museums, food halls, and bay views downtown. Gulf beaches at Clearwater, Honeymoon Island State Park, and Caladesi Island lie 40 to 50 miles west, an easy day trip from an RV base camp.

Peak snowbird season; private parks fill months out
The Tampa Bay area has two clear seasons: a mild, dry stretch from November through April, and a hot, wet stretch from May through October. Nearly two-thirds of the annual rainfall falls between June and September, almost always as afternoon and evening thunderstorms that build, dump, and clear within a few hours.
Winter is peak RV season. Snowbirds fill private parks from January through March, and many resorts run at or near capacity with monthly bookings locked in months ahead. Hillsborough River State Park is also busiest in this window, and the park's outdoor pool closes during cold weather when the water temperature drops to 70 degrees or below. Spring and late fall are the most comfortable times to visit, with warm days, lower humidity, and lighter rain.
Summer brings high heat, heavy humidity, and mosquitoes, plus active hurricane season from June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September. Some sites and amenities at Hillsborough River State Park have remained closed following Hurricane Milton recovery, so confirm status before booking.

Everything worked perfectly! Moises is a great host, he responded to all my questions and calls and even provided his personal camping app, which is a great find if you are into off grid cool safe camping spots to discover. It's not fancy on the outside, but the price is good and all the features are functional.
Chris is great and so is the van!! Definitely will rent again!

Excellent Campervan Experience
We recently rented a campervan to travel to Savannah and Northern Georgia. We had a great time, thanks to the excellent orientation provided by Morgan. We truly had everything we needed, from a French Press to start our days out right to a comfy bed that accommodated two adults comfortably. It was an amazing experience, with all the comforts of home while still being able to connect with nature. Morgan was a phenomenal host and we can't recommend him highly enough!
Hillsborough River State Park takes reservations through the Florida State Parks system at reserve.floridastateparks.org. Florida residents may book up to 11 months in advance; non-residents up to 10 months. Payment is due in full at the time of reservation, and a non-refundable service fee applies. Sites accommodate RVs up to 50 feet, and the maximum length of stay is 14 nights, extendable on-site at the park manager's discretion up to 28 nights total, with a 56-night cap in any six-month period.
Private parks such as Happy Travelers RV Park, Tampa RV Park Camp Nebraska, Spanish Main RV Resort, Lazydays RV Resort, and Southern Aire RV Park book directly through their own websites or by phone. For winter stays, reserve six to eight weeks ahead at a minimum; for monthly stays during snowbird season, book the prior spring.
What to expect on arrival
Private resorts in the area lean toward paved or hard-packed pads with full hookups, pools, laundry, and a mix of nightly, weekly, and monthly guests. Sites at parks like Lazydays RV Resort and Spanish Main RV Resort tend to be close together with limited privacy, which is typical of Florida snowbird parks. Wi-Fi quality varies, and some resorts cater specifically to a 55-plus crowd, so confirm age policies if traveling with kids.
Hillsborough River State Park sites are shaded by live oak, hickory, and sabal palm, with water and 50-amp electric on most sites, a fire ring, picnic table, and access to restrooms, hot showers, laundry, and a centrally located dump station. Park gates close at sundown, so late arrivals should call the park office ahead. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are common year-round; bring repellent.
