RV camping near Vamo, Florida
Vamo is an unincorporated community in Sarasota County on Florida's Gulf Coast, sitting along Little Sarasota Bay just south of the city of Sarasota. The area puts RV travelers within a short drive of Siesta Key, Nokomis Beach, and downtown Sarasota, while still keeping access to inland parks and the Myakka River corridor to the east.
Camping options in the immediate area lean toward established RV and mobile-home parks with full hookups rather than public campgrounds. Nearby choices include Royal Palms Mobile Home Park, Sarasota Sunny South RV and MH Park, Royal Coachman RV Resort, Palm and Pines Mobile and RV Park, and Sun Outdoors Sarasota, which sits on the outskirts of Sarasota near Fruitville Road.
For public land camping, travelers typically look east to Myakka River State Park, one of the oldest and largest state parks in Florida, with water and electric RV sites, or south to Oscar Scherer State Park near Osprey. Sarasota County is home to these two state parks plus a range of private campgrounds and RV resorts.
Things to do near Vamo
Beaches drive most trip plans. Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Nokomis Beach are all within a short drive, and Sun Outdoors Sarasota puts guests within reach of Siesta Beach, Lido Beach, and downtown Sarasota, while parks farther south sit closer to Nokomis Beach and Venice.
On the water, Vamo Drive Park provides a small local access point on Little Sarasota Bay with a canoe and kayak launch, shoreline fishing, and a starting point for paddling the Jim Neville Marine Preserve. Facilities are limited, with no restrooms and only a handful of parking spots.
Inland, Myakka River State Park is the marquee day trip. The park's paved drive, hiking trails, boat tours, and the Canopy Walkway suspended 25 feet above the hammock make it easy to explore. Alligators, wading birds, and open prairie set it apart from the coast.

The Sarasota area runs on a clear snowbird calendar. The stretch from November through April is the most comfortable window, with cooler temperatures and daytime highs generally in the upper 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit. RV parks in and around Vamo fill up in this window, with January through March being the tightest. Book several months ahead for peak-season stays.
Summer is hot and wet. Sarasota has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, and the warmer months bring heavy seasonal downpours and afternoon thunderstorms. August is typically the wettest month, with rainfall of roughly seven to ten inches depending on the source.
Hurricane season runs June through November, with the peak risk from August into October. Travelers watching the tropics should build flexibility into summer and early-fall bookings and check park cancellation policies before locking in dates.

How to book RV sites near Vamo
Private parks around Vamo, including Royal Palms Mobile Home Park, Sarasota Sunny South RV and MH Park, Royal Coachman RV Resort, Palm and Pines Mobile and RV Park, and Sun Outdoors Sarasota, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter stays often require multi-week or monthly commitments, and many sites are held by returning snowbirds, so contacting parks well in advance of a January-through-March trip is essential.
For state parks in Sarasota County, reservations run through the Florida State Parks system. Florida residents may make campsite or cabin reservations up to 11 months in advance, and non-Florida residents may make reservations up to 10 months in advance. Reservations can be made online or by calling 800-326-3521 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Vamo, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Vamo, FL?
RV rental in Vamo is one of the most flexible ways to experience Florida's Gulf Coast on a budget. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers from around $95 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes from $185 to $295 per night, and luxury Class A coaches starting around $300 and up. Because Vamo sits between Sarasota and Venice off US-41, prices peak during snowbird season (January through March) and dip in late spring and early fall. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book and weekly discounts, message hosts about longer-stay pricing, and consider booking a cheap RV rental in Vamo during May or September to stretch your budget. Many Vamo hosts also waive delivery fees within a short radius.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Vamo%2C%20FloridaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Vamo, Florida?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular Florida driver's license (or any standard U.S. or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Vamo. No commercial driver's license or RV endorsement is required, even for the larger Class A motorhomes you'll see cruising US-41. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home auto club before flying into Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, and you'll be Siesta Key beach-bound by lunch.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside help are included with my Vamo RV rental?
You're covered from the moment you hit the road. Every RV rental in Vamo booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on the Tamiami Trail or a dead battery at Turtle Beach Campground is just a phone call away. You choose your protection tier during checkout (not the host), and each plan covers physical damage to the RV up to set limits. Pick the level that matches your comfort, whether you're towing a travel trailer to Myakka River State Park or driving a Class C motorhome rental in Vamo across the Sunshine Skyway, and book with confidence.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Vamo trip plans change?
Booking your Vamo RV trip is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy platform-wide (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you have time to confirm plans, lock in a campground reservation at Oscar Scherer State Park, or coordinate flights into Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. Refund amounts depend on how far out you cancel. Because the policy is handled by RVezy, you won't see it listed on individual listings; the full details live in the Help Center, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Vamo?
Absolutely, Vamo is a fantastic basecamp for traveling with pets. Many RVezy hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Vamo: filter for Pet-Friendly on the search page and message the host to confirm size and number of pets. Once you're rolling, you have great options nearby: Brohard Paw Park in Venice is one of the only Florida beaches where dogs can swim in the Gulf, Oscar Scherer State Park welcomes leashed pets on its trails, and Myakka River State Park allows leashed pets at most campsites. Pack a long leash, fresh water, and a paw-protective mat (Florida pavement gets hot), and your pup will love the trip as much as you do.
venicefl.gov/government/departments-i-z/parks-recreationCan the RV be delivered to me in Vamo so I don't have to drive it?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start a Vamo RV trip, especially if you're flying in. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Vamo and across south Sarasota County. They'll bring the RV directly to your campsite at Myakka River State Park, your vacation rental on Siesta Key, or even a private driveway, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. To find these listings, toggle the Delivery filter and check each host's delivery radius (Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport pickups are common). It's the smartest move for first-time renters who'd rather skip city driving on US-41.
scgov.net/government/parks-recreation-and-natural-resourcesHow many miles can I drive on a Vamo RV rental, and can I find unlimited mileage?
You'll have plenty of room to roam. Most Vamo hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with the option to purchase extra miles upfront, and a growing number offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer Florida loop. To put it in perspective: Vamo to Key West is about 280 miles, Vamo to Orlando theme parks is roughly 130 miles, and Vamo to Everglades National Park sits around 175 miles. Filter listings by mileage policy, then message the host to lock in an unlimited package if you're planning a multi-stop Florida road trip from Vamo.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhere are the best campgrounds near Vamo, FL?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Vamo include Oscar Scherer State Park in Osprey (just 5 miles south, with 94 sites, water and electric, and scrub-jay habitat), Myakka River State Park about 20 miles east (90 sites across Big Flats, Old Prairie, and Palmetto Ridge, with full hookups on Palmetto Ridge), Turtle Beach Campground on the south end of Siesta Key (beachfront RV sites with full hookups), and Sun Outdoors Sarasota north of downtown (resort-style with pools and pickleball). For RV camping in Vamo with quick beach access, Turtle Beach is the local favorite, but it books up fast, so reserve early.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/oscar-scherer-state-parkWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Vamo?
The sweet spot for a Vamo RV trip is November through April, when daytime temps hover between 70 and 80 degrees, humidity drops, and afternoon thunderstorms disappear. This is peak snowbird season, so book early. October and May are the local insider picks: temperatures sit in the low 80s, prices ease, and the Gulf is still warm enough for swimming. Summer (June through September) brings 90-degree heat, daily afternoon storms, and Atlantic hurricane season, so RV rental in Florida is cheaper but you'll want strong AC and flexible plans. For Myakka River wildlife viewing, January and February are spectacular: alligators sun on the banks and migratory birds fill the prairie.
weather.gov/tbw/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Vamo area?
You've got this, and first-time renting an RV in Vamo is a great place to start. The roads around Vamo (US-41 Tamiami Trail and I-75 just east) are flat, wide, and well-maintained, with no mountain passes or snow to worry about. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, slide-outs, water, propane, and the dump valves. If you're nervous about size, request a Class B campervan rental in Vamo or a smaller Class C, both of which drive much like a large van. Stick to the right lane on I-75, give yourself extra braking room, and you'll be golden.
fdot.gov/safety/What happens if I have a breakdown or problem during my Vamo RV trip?
Help is always a phone call away. Every motorhome rental in Vamo through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If something goes wrong on the road to Myakka River State Park or while parked at Turtle Beach Campground, you'll have one number to call and a coordinator who arranges service. For RV-specific issues like a finicky generator or AC, your host is your first call: they know their RV best. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip, so you're never stuck figuring things out alone.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Vamo RV rental on a long road trip or across state lines?
Yes, an RV road trip from Vamo is one of the best ways to see the Southeast. Most hosts allow interstate travel within the U.S., which opens up incredible routes: Vamo to Key West (about 5 hours via the Overseas Highway), Vamo to St. Augustine and the Atlantic coast (around 3.5 hours), Vamo to Savannah (roughly 6.5 hours), or a full Gulf Coast run to New Orleans (about 11 hours). Just confirm with the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits. Cross-border trips into Canada may be possible with host approval, but most renters stick to Florida and the Southeast.
fhwa.dot.gov/byways/What kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for in Vamo?
Budgeting is straightforward. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A coaches typically run 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's mileage drops 30 to 40 percent while pulling. Florida gas prices generally sit close to the national average, and you'll find plenty of large stations with RV-friendly pumps along I-75 at the Clark Road and Jacaranda Boulevard exits near Vamo. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop through Myakka and Siesta Key in a Class C, plan roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Filling up before returning the RV avoids host refueling fees.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Vamo?
Book as early as you can, especially for winter. Florida State Parks (including Myakka River and Oscar Scherer, both within 20 miles of Vamo) accept reservations up to 11 months ahead for Florida residents and 10 months ahead for out-of-state guests through reserve.floridastateparks.org. Winter dates (December through April) at Myakka often sell out the minute they open. Turtle Beach Campground on Siesta Key takes reservations up to a year out and fills fast for spring break. Pro tip: if your dream dates are booked, check the reservation site daily at 8 a.m. ET, when cancellations frequently reopen. Private RV parks like Sun Outdoors Sarasota usually have more last-minute availability.
reserve.floridastateparks.org/What are the local driving conditions like around Vamo?
Driving around Vamo is RV-friendly. The terrain is pancake flat, roads are wide, and there's no snow or ice to worry about. US-41 (Tamiami Trail) runs right through Vamo and connects Sarasota to Venice with traffic lights and 45 mph speeds, perfect for easing into your rental. I-75 sits a couple miles east for faster regional travel. Watch for two Florida specifics: afternoon thunderstorms from June through September can drop heavy rain in minutes (pull over and wait it out), and winter snowbird traffic on US-41 slows things down in February. Avoid the Ringling Bridge and downtown Sarasota with larger Class A rigs (low clearance and tight turns); stick to US-41 or I-75.
fl511.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Vamo, and where can I dump tanks or fill water?
You'll find excellent facilities. Oscar Scherer State Park (5 miles from Vamo) offers water and 30/50-amp electric at every site, hot showers, a dump station, and laundry. Myakka River State Park's Palmetto Ridge campground has full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) at 42 sites, while Big Flats and Old Prairie have water and electric with shared dump stations. Sun Outdoors Sarasota and Turtle Beach Campground offer full hookups plus WiFi. Free public dump stations are limited in Sarasota County, so if you're boondocking, plan a stop at a state park dump (usually $5 for non-campers) or a private RV park. Most campgrounds have potable water spigots near the entrance for filling fresh tanks.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/oscar-scherer-state-parkWhat's typically included inside a Vamo RV rental?
Florida RV rentals come well-equipped for comfort. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a dining area, and sleeping for anywhere from 2 to 10 depending on the size. Air conditioning is standard and essential in Florida; most rentals also have a generator or shore-power AC, a TV, and increasingly WiFi or mobile hotspots. Every seat used for travel has a seatbelt. Hosts in the Vamo area often include extras like beach chairs, snorkel gear, and outdoor mats since Siesta Key and Lido Beach are so close. Check the listing's amenities list and message the host if you have specific must-haves like a coffee maker, bike rack, or kayak.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with a Vamo RV rental?
There's a lot of flexibility. Vamo hosts commonly offer add-ons like linen and kitchen kits ($50 to $100), bike racks, paddleboards or kayaks (great for Lemon Bay), outdoor furniture, generators with usage fees, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the Vamo, Osprey, or south Sarasota area, with delivery available to SRQ airport, Siesta Key, or any local campground (typical fees run $2 to $4 per mile). Mileage policies vary: 100 to 150 free miles per night is standard, with extra miles around $0.35 each, and some hosts offer unlimited-mileage packages. Review each listing's add-on menu before booking and message the host to bundle extras for a better rate.
scgov.net/government/transportationHow do payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Vamo?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at checkout using a credit or debit card, which keeps your booking protected and gives you a clear record of every charge. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card separately from the booking payment and released after the trip, assuming the RV comes back in good shape with no policy violations. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup and drop-off (photos and video are your friend), return the RV with tanks emptied and fuel topped up per the agreement, and stay within your mileage. No cash, no surprises.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Vamo, FL?
Vamo is a launchpad for some of Florida's best drives. Siesta Key Beach is just 10 minutes away (consistently ranked among the top U.S. beaches for its quartz-sand). Myakka River State Park is 20 miles east for alligators and the Canopy Walkway. Sanibel and Captiva Islands sit about 90 minutes south for shelling. Everglades National Park is around 3 hours southeast for a true wilderness day. Key West makes a doable 5-hour drive down the Overseas Highway. For a shorter family RV trip in Vamo, loop Myakka, Oscar Scherer, and Turtle Beach over a long weekend. Local insider tip: catch sunset at Nokomis Beach drum circle on Wednesdays and Saturdays, just 10 minutes south of Vamo.
