Campgrounds and RV parks near West Bradenton, FL

The barrier islands are the main draw. Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach, and Longboat Key offer swimming, shelling, and sunset walks, and Sarasota Bay is a popular spot for kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating. DeSoto National Memorial, on the mouth of the Manatee River, is a free stop with short trails and living-history programs. Inland, Myakka River State Park is one of Florida's largest and oldest parks, with the Myakka River flowing through pine flatwoods, sabal palm hammocks, and live-oak canopies. Visitors can boat, fish, paddle, hike, or bike its trails, and wildlife viewing includes alligators and wading birds. Lake Manatee adds freshwater fishing for bass, bluegill, and catfish.

The prime RV window on this stretch of coast runs from mid-October through mid-May. Daytime highs sit in a comfortable range, humidity is lower, and afternoon thunderstorms are rare. March and April are especially popular thanks to warm Gulf water and fewer bugs. Winter is snowbird season. Demand at private resorts and state-park sites peaks in January and February, when many long-stay guests arrive from the north. Book well ahead for these months and expect tight availability at oceanside and canal-front parks. Summer brings heat, high humidity, and near-daily thunderstorms. Bradenton has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and mild winters. The area is wet overall, with a strong seasonal pattern where summer brings abundant rainfall. Heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can sometimes occur during the warmer months, contributing to high annual precipitation. Hurricane season runs from June to November, although the period in which they are most likely is from August to October. Travellers should track NHC advisories and know each campground's evacuation policy.

Expect flat, easy driving on grid streets and coastal causeways. Bridges to Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key have height and, on some routes, weight limits, so check clearances before towing a taller rig across barrier-island roads. Private resorts in the area tend to lean toward paved or gravel pads, full hookups, laundry, and pools, with a heavy snowbird presence in winter. Nearby state-park sites are shadier and more rustic, generally with water and electric service, a dump station, and central bathhouses. Bugs, sun, and storms shape daily plans. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are worst in summer and early fall, UV levels are high year-round, and afternoon lightning is common in the wet season. Pack screens, sun protection, and a plan to be off the beach before storms build.
