Overview of campgrounds near Westchester
Westchester is a residential community in western Miami-Dade County, roughly ten miles inland from downtown Miami and a similar distance from Miami International Airport. RV travelers use it as a practical base for South Florida because it sits between the Atlantic beaches to the east and the wetlands to the west, with quick access to the Florida Turnpike, the Palmetto Expressway, and US 41 (the Tamiami Trail).
Most RV camping is spread across the metropolitan fringe rather than inside the city limits. To the south, Miami Everglades RV Resort sits on thirty-four acres of avocado, mango, and palm trees at 20675 SW 162nd Ave in Miami, close to Zoo Miami and the main Everglades entrance. Options along the Broward line include Hollywood KOA, The Boardwalk, and Davie/Fort Lauderdale KOA Holiday, plus Florida Park Miami closer in.
Everglades National Park's Flamingo Campground on the shores of Florida Bay lies about 38 miles south of the park's Homestead entrance and offers around 274 sites in total, including a dedicated RV loop, giving campers a national-park option within reasonable driving range of Westchester.
Things to do near Westchester
The big regional draw is Everglades National Park. From a base at Miami Everglades RV Resort or Florida Park Miami, day trips reach the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, the Anhinga Trail, Shark Valley tram tours, and airboat operators along US 41. Zoo Miami, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and the Deering Estate are all within a short drive.
Beaches and boardwalks sit to the east. Hollywood's Broadwalk offers oceanfront dining, cycling, and access to the Atlantic Ocean, and Miami Beach, Key Biscayne, and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park are reachable in under an hour outside rush hour.
For slower days, families use campground amenities on site. Miami Everglades RV Resort is a gated resort with full-hookup sites, a heated pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, volleyball, a clubhouse, horseshoes, laundry facilities, and a dog park.

South Florida runs on a dry season and a wet season rather than four traditional seasons. Winter and early spring, from roughly late November through April, bring the busiest camping months: warm days, low humidity, and few mosquitoes. Peak winter season from December through April sees campgrounds fill on weekends, while the summer wet season brings fewer visitors but heavier mosquito activity.
Everglades access follows this pattern. Long Pine Key Campground is open seasonally, roughly November through May, and is one of two frontcountry campgrounds managed by Flamingo Adventures, the park concessioner. Flamingo Campground stays open year-round but is quieter and buggier in summer, and its Bayside tent loop has been closed for the 2026 season.
Late summer and fall bring the Atlantic hurricane season. Miami is one of the most hurricane-vulnerable cities in the United States due to its coastal, low-lying setting. RV travelers heading down between August and October should watch National Hurricane Center advisories, keep flexible dates, and confirm cancellation terms before booking.

I recently had the pleasure of renting Mark and Cyndi's RV for a two-week vacation across Florida, and I cannot recommend them enough! The entire process, from the initial inquiry to returning the RV, was seamless, professional, and friendly. Here's what made my experience exceptional: Communication: Mark and Cyndi were prompt, clear, and informative in their communication. They made sure I knew everything I needed to before embarking on my adventure and were readily available to answer any questions I had during my trip. The RV: Their RV was in pristine condition and exceptionally clean. It was evident that they take great pride in maintaining their vehicle. The RV was spacious, comfortable, and equipped with all the essential amenities, making my vacation feel like a true "home away from home." Orientation and Support: Upon pickup, Mark and Cyndi provided a thorough orientation of the RV, ensuring I was comfortable with all its features and operations. They also provided a comprehensive guidebook and videos, which were extremely helpful during the trip. Additionally, they were always just a phone call away whenever I needed assistance or had questions.

How to book campgrounds near Westchester
Private RV parks around Westchester take reservations directly through their own websites, with some also bookable through third-party platforms. Miami Everglades RV Resort books through its resort site and outside portals, and cancellation windows vary by season and length of stay, so travelers should confirm terms at the time of booking. Hollywood KOA, The Boardwalk, Davie/Fort Lauderdale KOA Holiday, and Florida Park Miami all handle bookings through their own operator sites.
Everglades National Park uses two separate systems. Frontcountry tent and RV camping at Flamingo and Long Pine Key is reserved through Flamingo Adventures, an authorized park concessioner. Wilderness backcountry campsites are reserved on Recreation.gov, with the booking window opening 90 days before the trip start date on a rolling basis at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Book winter dates well ahead.
What to expect on the ground
The immediate Westchester area is dense suburbia, not wilderness. Some regional parks such as Hollywood KOA sit in tight urban settings, so guests can expect traffic, aircraft, and general city noise rather than a quiet, resort-style backdrop. Larger resorts south of the city trade convenience for space, shade, and quieter nights.
Expect full hookups, big-rig-friendly access, and pool amenities at most private parks in the region. National park sites are more rustic. Long Pine Key has flush restrooms, potable water, and a dump station, but sites do not have electric, water, or sewer hookups. At Flamingo, the T Loop offers pull-through RV sites, and a portion have electric pedestals.
Bring strong insect repellent for any Everglades trip, plan for humidity and afternoon thunderstorms in summer, and expect alligators near freshwater. Cell coverage drops quickly once you leave the metro area.

RV rental in Westchester, FL is often more affordable than a Miami Beach hotel stay. On RVezy, towable travel trailers near Westchester typically range from about $100 to $150 per night, while motorhomes generally run $175 to $275 per night depending on class, age, and amenities. Many hosts offer weekly or monthly discounts, great news for a longer Miami RV trip. For cheap RV rental Westchester options, filter by price, focus on travel trailers, and consider booking in the shoulder months of April, May, or October when demand dips. Good news for first time renters: your regular Florida driver's license (or any valid US driver's license) is all you need to rent an RV in Westchester, FL. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement is required, even for larger Class A motorhomes, under Florida law. Visiting from another country? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home automobile association before you fly into Miami International Airport, just minutes north of Westchester. All RVezy approved drivers must be 25 or older, and ID verification happens securely through the platform during booking.

That built-in safety net is a big reason first time renters feel confident booking an RV rental in Westchester.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Westchester, FL RV rental?
Booking is low risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not the individual host. Every booking includes a grace period right after confirmation during which you can cancel for a full refund. Refunds beyond the grace period depend on how far out your trip is, and special protections apply for events like hurricanes, which matter in South Florida during the June through November storm season. Full details are on the RVezy Help Center, and customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Translation: you can lock in those winter Westchester RV rental dates with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Westchester, FL?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Westchester options are plentiful on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you will see dozens of hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Once you arrive, Miami-Dade is a wonderfully dog-friendly area: Tropical Park, just a couple of miles east of Westchester on Bird Road, has a dedicated off-leash dog park, and Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah offers a huge bark park with a doggy lake. Most local campgrounds, including Larry and Penny Thompson Park and Miami Everglades RV Resort, allow leashed pets. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your pet's size and breed, since a few RVs have weight limits.
miamidade.gov/parks/tropical.aspCan the RV be delivered to me in Westchester, FL?
Yes, RV delivery Westchester is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game changer if you are flying into Miami International Airport (just 4 miles north) or do not want to drive a big rig through city traffic. Many hosts will deliver and set up the motorhome or travel trailer directly at your campsite, vacation rental driveway, or even a marina. Popular drop-off spots include Larry and Penny Thompson Park, Miami Everglades RV Resort in Homestead, and campgrounds in the Florida Keys. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: ask for the walkthrough on-site so you learn the systems in the exact spot you will be camping.
miamidade.gov/global/transportation/airport.pageHow far can I travel on my Westchester, FL RV rental?
You have serious road trip range from Westchester, FL. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and you will find listings with daily allowances (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) as well as RV rental with unlimited mileage for road trippers. From Westchester, Key West is about 165 miles south on the Overseas Highway, Naples is roughly 110 miles west via Tamiami Trail, Orlando theme parks are around 235 miles north, and Key Largo (the gateway to the Keys) is just 60 miles away. Filter by mileage policy on RVezy before you book, or message the host to negotiate extra miles. Pro tip: unlimited mileage rentals pay off fast on a Keys round trip.
fdot.gov/Where can I camp near Westchester, FL?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Westchester and the surrounding Miami-Dade area. The closest full-hookup option is Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park, about 12 miles south next to Zoo Miami, with 240 sites set among shady pines. Miami Everglades RV Resort in the agricultural Redland area offers 327 sites with a pool and pickleball. Goldcoaster RV Resort and Southern Comfort RV Resort in Homestead and Florida City put you at the doorstep of Everglades and Biscayne National Parks. For a Keys vibe, Key Largo Kampground is about an hour south on US-1. Best campgrounds near Westchester fill up fast from December through March, so reserve early.
miamidade.gov/parks/larry-penny.aspWhen is the best time of year for a Westchester, FL RV trip?
The sweet spot for a Westchester, FL RV trip is November through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70 to 80 degree range, humidity drops, and mosquito activity plunges, especially in the Everglades. December through February averages 60 to 75 degrees, making it perfect for snowbirds escaping cold northern winters. Summer (June through September) brings highs in the low 90s, heavy afternoon thunderstorms, and the official Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 to November 30. Shoulder months like late October, early November, and May offer lower RV rental rates with still-gorgeous weather. Pro tip: book your winter rental by August because the snowbird rush sells out the best Miami-area listings.
weather.gov/mfl/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be able to handle it?
You absolutely can, and most first time renters in Westchester are surprised by how smooth the process is. Every RVezy host gives you a thorough orientation and walkthrough at pickup, covering how to operate the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, awning, and dump valves. You can also message the host through the platform with questions before and during your trip. For your first ride, consider a Class C motorhome or a compact travel trailer rather than a 40-foot Class A, and ask the host about delivery so you avoid driving in heavy Miami traffic. With 24/7 roadside assistance built in and friendly local hosts, renting an RV in Westchester is way less intimidating than it sounds.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/What happens if something breaks down during my Westchester, FL RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every RV rental in Westchester, FL booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire on the Florida Turnpike, a dead battery at Flamingo Campground in the Everglades, or a lockout in the Keys. Your host is also a direct lifeline through in-app messaging and can troubleshoot quirks specific to their rig. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the propane gauge, fuse panel, and water hookups during your walkthrough so you have a quick reference if anything acts up later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Westchester, FL RV rental out of state?
Out-of-state road trips are absolutely on the table. From Westchester, you can drive up the I-95 corridor to Savannah, the Outer Banks, or even Maine, and many hosts welcome multi-state journeys, just confirm the mileage policy first. RVezy rentals are not permitted to cross into Mexico because the protection plan and insurance do not extend outside the US and Canada. Popular RV road trip from Westchester routes include Miami to Key West (about 165 miles via the Overseas Highway), Miami to Orlando theme parks (about 235 miles), and Miami to St. Augustine (about 340 miles). Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm your itinerary if you plan to leave Florida.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for around Westchester, FL?
Realistic expectations help you budget smart. Class A motorhomes typically get 7 to 10 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes 10 to 14 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 15 mpg combined). Florida gas prices generally hover near the national average, and Westchester sits near several major fueling stops along the Florida Turnpike and US-41 with diesel widely available. For a round trip to Key West (about 330 miles total), budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Florida City before heading into the Keys, where gas prices climb noticeably the further south you drive on US-1.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Westchester, FL?
For peak winter season (December through March), book your campground 4 to 6 months ahead, especially at popular spots like Larry and Penny Thompson Park (reserve through the Miami-Dade Parks reservation system) and any Florida state park campground like Long Key, Bahia Honda, or John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Florida state parks open reservations 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica's Florida State Parks portal, and the best Keys sites get snapped up the moment the window opens at 8 a.m. Eastern. Private RV resorts like Miami Everglades and Goldcoaster typically book up 2 to 3 months ahead in winter. Summer and shoulder seasons are far more flexible, often allowing same-week bookings.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat is driving an RV like in and around Westchester, FL?
Driving around Westchester is easier than most people expect, but there are a few local quirks worth knowing. The Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) and Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) intersect just minutes from Westchester and can get congested during rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.), so plan departures outside those windows. Avoid the narrow lanes of Miami Beach's Ocean Drive and the low clearances in Brickell with anything over 11 feet tall. Heading west, US-41 (Tamiami Trail) into the Everglades is flat, straight, and RV-friendly. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can drop visibility fast, so pull over if it gets heavy. Pro tip: SunPass transponders save time on toll roads.
fdot.gov/traffic/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Westchester, FL?
Most RV parks near Westchester offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30 and 50 amp electric), which means easy living from day one. Larry and Penny Thompson Park has a dump station, fresh water fill, hot showers, and laundry on-site. Miami Everglades RV Resort, Goldcoaster, and Southern Comfort RV Resort feature pools, Wi-Fi, clubhouses, and pet areas. For dumping and water fills between stops, the Florida Turnpike service plazas and most Flying J/Pilot truck stops along I-75 north of Miami have RV dump facilities. Pro tip: many South Florida campgrounds have tropical landscaping that means tight turns; ask for a pull-through site if you are driving a 30-foot-plus rig.
miamidade.gov/parks/camping.aspWhat will be inside my Westchester, FL motorhome rental?
Expect a fully equipped home on wheels. A motorhome rental Westchester from RVezy typically comes with sleeping for 4 to 8 people, a kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette, sometimes a slide-out for extra living space, roof air conditioning (essential in the Florida heat), heating, and seatbelts for travel. Many listings include a generator for off-grid power, TV, Bluetooth speakers, and outdoor awnings perfect for shading your campsite in the Everglades. Campervan rental Westchester options (Class B) are smaller and ideal for couples wanting easy parking. Each listing has a detailed amenities checklist, so you can filter for must-haves like solar, Wi-Fi hotspot, or bike racks.
energy.gov/eere/vehicles/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are available when I rent an RV in Westchester?
When you rent an RV in Westchester, you can customize your trip with popular add-ons like delivery and setup, generator hours, propane refills, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs, bike racks, paddleboards, and even pet beds. Fees vary by host but are clearly listed on each RVezy listing before you book. Pickup is usually at the host's home or storage location around Westchester or nearby Doral and Kendall, though many hosts will deliver to Miami International Airport, your hotel, or your campground for an additional fee based on distance. Mileage policies range from 100 miles per day to unlimited. Pro tip: bundling delivery plus a linen kit makes your family RV trip Westchester arrival completely turnkey.
miamidade.gov/global/transportation/airport.pageHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform when you book (never directly to the host in cash), which keeps your money protected and your booking confirmed. A refundable security deposit is held separately by RVezy at the start of your trip and released back to your card after the RV is returned in the same condition you received it. The deposit amount is shown clearly on each listing before you book. To avoid any deposit hiccups: do a thorough video walk-around with the host at pickup and drop-off, follow the fueling and dumping instructions in your rental agreement, and message the host through the app if anything unusual comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat is one local insider tip for an RV trip from Westchester, FL?
Here is a tip locals love: skip the Miami Beach traffic entirely and aim your RV south for the Everglades and Keys combo. From Westchester, you are 45 minutes from the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center at Everglades National Park, where ranger-led tram tours into Shark Valley let you spot alligators by the dozen. Continue south on US-1 and within 90 minutes you are crossing the iconic Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon. Stop at Robert Is Here fruit stand in Homestead for legendary key lime milkshakes on your way out. Pro tip: a midweek December or January departure from Westchester avoids both snowbird campground crowds and weekend Keys traffic, giving you the South Florida RV experience of a lifetime.
