Overview of campgrounds near Priest River
Priest River sits in the Idaho panhandle at the confluence of the Priest and Pend Oreille rivers, roughly an hour north of Coeur d'Alene and within reach of Sandpoint, Priest Lake, and the Selkirk Mountains. The town works well as an RV base, with grocery and fuel stops on Highway 2 and surrounding forests, rivers, and lakes that support fishing, boating, hiking, and OHV riding.
RV options in the immediate area range from full-service private resorts to a small state park campground. Round Lake State Park has 51 campsites, 16 of which have water and electric hookups, and campground amenities include drinking water, flush and vault toilets, trash collection and an RV dump station. Standard campsites are limited to trailers 24 feet in length or less. Nearby private parks include KM Resorts - Old American RV Resort, StoneRidge MotorCoach Village, StoneRidge Golf and Recreational Community and RV Resort, and Sedlmayers RV Park.
Lake Pend Oreille is one of the largest and deepest natural lakes in the western United States, and the Pend Oreille River flows west from the lake past Priest River toward Albeni Falls Dam.
Things to do near Priest River
Water recreation is the main draw. Boaters use launches on the Pend Oreille River, and anglers fish for bass, kokanee, perch, northern pike, and trout in the river and on nearby Lake Pend Oreille. There is boating, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, and wildlife viewing in the area. Round Lake State Park adds paddling and swimming on a small no-motor lake.
Upland trips are easy from town. Priest Lake is a common ATV and side-by-side destination to the north, and July and August bring huckleberry picking in the surrounding forests. Schweitzer Mountain near Sandpoint is a short drive for skiing and summer lift rides, and Silverwood Theme Park in Athol is roughly an hour south.
In winter, visitors can also do snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing and ice skating at Round Lake State Park.

Camping in the Priest River area is strongly seasonal. Private RV parks such as KM Resorts - Old American RV Resort, StoneRidge MotorCoach Village, StoneRidge Golf and Recreational Community and RV Resort, and Sedlmayers RV Park operate through the warm months, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Reserve well in advance for July and August, which are the driest, sunniest, and busiest weeks.
Public campgrounds have narrower windows. Forest Service campgrounds on Priest Lake such as Outlet and Beaver Creek are normally open from mid-May through the end of September. Reservations in the Round Lake Campground are available from May 19 through September 4, and camping on a first come, first served basis is available year round.
Winter shifts the mix. Summers are short, warm, dry, and mostly clear and the winters are freezing, snowy, and overcast. Many private parks close or reduce services from late fall through spring, while Round Lake stays open for snowshoeing, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing at limited capacity.

How to book campgrounds near Priest River
Private resorts such as KM Resorts - Old American RV Resort, StoneRidge MotorCoach Village, StoneRidge Golf and Recreational Community and RV Resort, and Sedlmayers RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holidays fill first, so book several months out for July and August.
Round Lake State Park uses the Idaho State Parks reservation system. Campers can view all available nights, up to 12 months ahead, of any campsite. Check-in time starts at 2:00 PM and check-out time is 1:00 PM. A Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee is required for every vehicle entering Idaho State Parks, including visitors.
Federal campgrounds around Priest Lake, including Outlet, Luby Bay, Reeder Bay, and Beaver Creek, are booked through Recreation.gov. Reservation windows for Forest Service sites in this area typically open up to six months ahead.
What to expect at Priest River campgrounds
Expect forested sites, quiet nights, and short drives to lakes and rivers. Private RV parks in the corridor between Priest River, Sagle, and Sandpoint offer full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi, and several are attached to golf and resort amenities. State and Forest Service campgrounds trade hookups for setting, with shaded loops, potable water, vault or flush toilets, and dump stations at central locations.
Rig size matters. Round Lake State Park has 16 serviced campsites and 35 standard sites, with trailers limited to 24 feet. Larger fifth-wheels and Class A rigs are better suited to StoneRidge MotorCoach Village or KM Resorts - Old American RV Resort.
Wildlife is part of the experience. The park sits on the edge of a lake where flocks of Canada geese pass over towering pine, hemlock and larch trees, and hikers may glimpse a resident moose. Black bears also range through the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, so store food in hard-sided vehicles or bear boxes where posted.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Priest River, ID
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Priest River, Idaho?
An RV rental in Priest River is one of the most budget-friendly ways to experience North Idaho's Selkirk Mountains and Priest Lake. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run roughly $150 to $225, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes generally fall between $200 to $350 per night. To score a cheap RV rental in Priest River, aim for shoulder months like May or late September when demand drops but the lake is still gorgeous. Book midweek and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Stocking up at the Priest River Albertsons or Mitchell's Harvest Foods before heading to Priest Lake saves you the markup at lakeside camp stores.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Priest%20River%2C%20IdahoDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Priest River, ID?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Priest River for nearly every rig on RVezy. Idaho follows federal Commercial Driver's License (CDL) standards, but personal-use RVs under 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) are exempt, which covers virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the platform. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the booking process so there's nothing extra to mail in. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to cruise Highway 57 toward Priest Lake.
itd.idaho.gov/dmv/What protection comes with my Priest River RV rental?
Every RV rental in Priest River, Idaho automatically includes an RVezy renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on Selkirk Mountain views instead of worst-case scenarios. Protection plans cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. Whether you're navigating a forest service road near Kaniksu National Forest or parked at Indian Creek Campground, you've got real peace of mind. Pick the tier that matches your comfort level and hit the road knowing you're backed up if a tree branch finds your awning.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every Priest River RV trip. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, with additional flexibility depending on how far in advance you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credits so you're never left stranded. Review the full cancellation details in the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. Lock in your dates early for July and August, the busiest Priest Lake season, knowing you've got a clear path if plans shift.

Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Priest River, and your pup is going to love it here. Filter for Pet-Friendly on RVezy to instantly see rigs that welcome dogs, then message the host with your pet's size and breed for a quick confirmation. Priest Lake State Park allows leashed pets at campsites and on most trails, and the sandy beach at Reeder Bay is a dog-walking favorite once you step off the swim area. The Idaho Panhandle National Forest trails around Outlet Bay are also open to leashed dogs. Bring a tie-out, a towel for muddy paws, and prepare for a happy, tired dog by sundown.
parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/parks/priest-lakeCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Priest River?
Yes, RV delivery in Priest River is one of the easiest ways to skip the learning curve, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to Priest Lake State Park, Outlet Campground, Reeder Bay, or even a private property near Coolin or Nordman, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see which listings offer this service and check the host's delivery radius and fee. Delivery pairs perfectly with a Priest Lake RV trip because you avoid towing on the winding Highway 57 corridor.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Priest%20River%2C%20IdahoAre unlimited miles available, and how far can I drive from Priest River?
Many hosts in Priest River offer generous mileage allowances and some even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which makes road tripping the Idaho Panhandle a breeze. From Priest River you can reach Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille in about 23 miles, Coeur d'Alene in roughly 60 miles, Spokane, Washington in about 55 miles, Schweitzer Mountain Resort in 40 miles, and the south end of Priest Lake in 38 miles. Glacier National Park is a longer 230-mile haul through Montana that's well worth it. Check the mileage cap on each listing before booking, and message the host if you're planning a Priest River RV trip with a lot of ground to cover.

Indian Creek Campground at Priest Lake State Park offers sites with water and electric hookups, a dump station, and a camp store. Lionhead Campground on the north end of Priest Lake offers quieter sites in summer. Outlet Campground sits at the lake's southwest shore with shaded forest sites, and Reeder Bay Campground in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest offers reservable sites near a sandy swim beach. For something closer to town, Albeni Cove Recreation Area on the Pend Oreille River is just minutes from downtown Priest River.
parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/parks/priest-lakeWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Priest River?
Late June through mid-September is the sweet spot for RV camping in Priest River, with daytime highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, dry sunny skies, and Priest Lake warm enough for swimming. July and August are the warmest and busiest months, averaging around 81 degrees Fahrenheit, while early June and September deliver fewer crowds and cooler nights perfect for campfires. Spring shoulder season starting in May offers blooming wildflowers but cooler nights dipping into the 30s. If you want huckleberry season, aim for late July through August when the state fruit is ripe for picking along forest service roads. Book your RV rental in Idaho at least two months ahead for peak summer dates.
weather.gov/otx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Priest River?
You're going to do great, and Priest River is actually one of the friendlier places in Idaho to learn. Roads here are mostly two-lane highways like Highway 2 and Highway 57 with light traffic outside summer weekends, and your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, electric hookups, slide-outs, and dump procedures. First time renting an RV? Choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for easier handling, and consider RV delivery so you don't have to drive at all. Most renters tell us they feel confident within the first 20 miles. Cruise the back roads near Albeni Falls Dam to practice before heading up to Priest Lake.
itd.idaho.gov/dmv/What if something breaks down during my Priest River RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so whether you've got a flat tire on Highway 57 heading to Nordman or a dead battery at Reeder Bay, help is one phone call away. Your host is also typically reachable for questions about quirks specific to their rig, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Cell service can be spotty on the west side of Priest Lake and in Kaniksu National Forest, so screenshot the roadside assistance number and your host's contact info before you leave Priest River town limits.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Priest River RV rental into Canada?
Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible since Priest Lake State Park sits just 30 miles from the Canadian border, but it depends on the specific host and the insurance attached to the RV. Message the host directly from the listing page before booking to confirm Canada travel is allowed and to coordinate any documentation. You'll need a valid passport, and the closest crossings are Eastport, Idaho (about 90 miles northeast) or Porthill, Idaho. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular cross-border adventures include Nelson, British Columbia, and Kootenay Lake, both within a half-day drive from Priest River.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Priest River RV road trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable expense on an RV road trip from Priest River, and a little planning keeps it predictable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get around 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A rigs come in closer to 6 to 10 MPG. Idaho gas prices in the Panhandle typically run a few cents below the national average and you'll find competitive pumps at the Maverik and Conoco stations in Priest River and Sandpoint. Fill up in town before heading to Priest Lake, where prices at the camp store inside Indian Creek Campground run noticeably higher. Budget around $80 to $150 in fuel for a 4-day Priest Lake loop.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Priest River?
For summer weekends at Priest Lake State Park, book your campsite the moment reservations open, which is nine months in advance through the Idaho State Parks reservation system. Indian Creek and Lionhead Units fill quickly, especially for July and August. Idaho Panhandle National Forest campgrounds like Outlet, Reeder Bay, and Beaver Creek open reservations six months ahead on Recreation.gov. For midweek stays in June or September, you can often grab a site two to three weeks out. Pro tip: if you strike out at the state park, check Albeni Cove Recreation Area on the Pend Oreille River or look at private RV parks like Old American Kampground in nearby Newport, Washington, just 10 minutes from Priest River.

Watch for deer, elk, and the occasional moose at dawn and dusk, particularly near Coolin and Nordman. In winter, mountain passes can get snow and ice, so check Idaho 511 for real-time road conditions before driving. Pro tip: avoid the Highway 57 corridor on Sunday afternoons in summer when weekend campers head home all at once.

parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/state-park/priest-lake-state-park/How do payments and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: when you book an RV in Priest River, you pay through RVezy's platform using a credit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment at the start of the trip and released after a smooth return. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos and a short walkthrough video of the RV at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fuel and dump-tank instructions, and stick to the agreed mileage. Review the listing's deposit amount and any cleaning or extra-mile fees before booking so there are zero surprises when you roll back into Priest River.

Yes, winter RV rental in Priest River is absolutely an option and the Selkirk Mountains in snow are magical. Indian Creek Campground at Priest Lake State Park stays open year-round with limited facilities (water is turned off in winter), and Schweitzer Mountain Resort is just 40 miles away for skiing and snowboarding. Look for RVs equipped with heated holding tanks, a propane furnace, and shore-power capability, then message the host to confirm winter-readiness. Expect overnight lows in the teens to 20s from December through February. Many hosts offer winter discounts, making this an affordable time of year to rent, and the snowmobiling out of Coolin is world-class.
