Campgrounds and RV parks near Corydon, IA

Water recreation anchors most trips. Honey Creek State Park sits on Rathbun Lake against a backdrop of rolling, timbered hills, with boating, swimming, and fishing for bass, walleye, catfish, and crappie. Nine Eagles holds a 64-acre lake with bass, channel catfish, and bluegill, and its timbered watershed makes it one of the clearest artificial impoundments in Iowa. Trail riders and hikers have options too. Nine Eagles offers six miles of bridle trails and nine miles of hiking trails, while the Whitebreast Unit of Stephens State Forest has two stocked ponds, three equestrian campgrounds, and 20 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, and equestrian riding. Only rowboats and electric motors are permitted on the Nine Eagles lake, and a fishing jetty plus boat ramp provide easy shoreline access.

The public camping season in this area runs roughly April through October. At Nine Eagles, the campground is closed each year from November 1 through March 31, and is 100 percent reservable, accepting reservations April 1 through October 31 until 10:00 pm CST the day of arrival. The Honey Creek campground follows a similar pattern, closed January 1 through March 31 and November 1 through December 31, with peak season May 1 through October 15. Facilities ramp up slowly. Park staff generally try to have the water on and shower buildings and dump stations open by mid April, and start closing them down around mid-October depending upon the weather. Peak demand runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, with summer weekends and holidays filling first. Spring brings rain and muddy equestrian trails; fall is cooler, drier, and quieter. Stephens State Forest offers year-round non-modern camping in the Lucas and Whitebreast Units, and Lakeside Casino Resort RV Park stays open through winter, though main water service is reduced once temperatures drop.

Most public sites in this area are electric-only with a central dump station; full hookups are limited. Stephens State Forest offers year-round non-modern camping in the Lucas and Whitebreast Units, without electricity but with pit toilets in or near the campground, and several sites set up for equestrian use. Honey Creek's campground has 118 total sites including 17 full hookup sites, 69 electric sites, and 22 non-electric sites, with cabins available seasonally. Private parks are more RV-focused, typically offering 30 and 50-amp service, water, sewer, pull-through pads, Wi-Fi, and on-site showers. Cell service is generally reliable along the I-35 corridor and patchier inside the forest units. Emerald ash borer has been confirmed in all 99 Iowa counties and the statewide EAB quarantine has been removed, so firewood may be moved legally within Iowa, but moving firewood can still spread harmful pests, so buying local is best.
