Campgrounds near Dysart, Iowa
Dysart is a small Tama County town in northeast Iowa, roughly a half-hour drive south of the Waterloo and Cedar Falls metro. Most nearby camping options sit along the Cedar River corridor to the north rather than in town itself.
The closest full-service RV park is Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort, a private resort-style campground on the south edge of Waterloo, with the Lost Island Waterpark next door. Rusty Ridge Campground and Outback Campground and Resort provide additional private options within an easy drive.
For state park camping, George Wyth State Park sits near the cities of Waterloo and Cedar Falls, an urban wildlife sanctuary located between Waterloo and Cedar Falls in Black Hawk County. Note that Meskwaki Casino Resort and RV Park is closed and no longer accepting reservations. Between these options, RV renters can pick a resort with pools and activities, a quieter private park, or a public campground on the water.
Things to do near Dysart
Water and trails drive most trips in this area. George Wyth State Park centers around four lakes: Brinker Lake, George Wyth Lake, Fisher Lake, and Alice Wyth Lake, with fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing all popular. The Cedar Valley Trail, a paved regional trail system, runs directly through the park, connecting campers to more than 80 miles of trails, and the park includes 3.5 miles of paved trails and 10 miles of soft-surface trails within its boundaries.
Families staying at Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort have direct access to the Lost Island Waterpark next door. Waterloo itself offers the Grout Museum District and the Phelps Youth Pavilion at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Rusty Ridge Campground and Outback Campground and Resort work well as quieter bases for day trips into the metro area.
