Campgrounds and RV parks near Hampton, IA

At Beeds Lake State Park, the recreational offerings include a no-wake lake ideal for fishing and non-motorized boating, a modern boat ramp, fishing jetties and docks near the south shore, a swimming beach, and a two-mile shoreline trail. Anglers target bass, catfish, and panfish, and the causeway also offers shoreline fishing. A historic stone and timber beach building, originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, has been converted to a rental lodge with a kitchen and dining area available for group reservations. Families looking for river time can head to Rock-n-Row Adventures Iowa River Tubing for float trips on the Iowa River. Pine Lake State Park Campground adds hiking through mature pine and oak stands with two lakes for paddling, and Clear Lake State Park offers a large recreational lake with a swim beach and lakeside town amenities.

The camping window in this part of Iowa is tied to freeze cycles. Beeds Lake State Park operates seasonally from April 1 through October 31, with peak-season rates applying May 1 through October 15. From November 1 through March 31, Iowa state parks generally shift to walk-in only status, and advance reservations are not available due to unpredictable winter weather. A short list of exceptions, including Clear Lake State Park, continues to accept reservations in November and March. Park staff generally try to have water on and shower buildings open by May 1 and begin closing them down around mid-October, so shoulder-season RV travelers in April or late October should arrive with full fresh-water tanks and expect limited modern facilities. Summer brings the highest demand and the most amenities online, including beaches and full staffing. Fall delivers strong hardwood color along the Iowa River corridor near Pine Lake State Park Campground, typically peaking in mid-October. Winter effectively closes the campgrounds, though day-use areas often remain open for cross-country skiing and ice fishing when conditions allow.

Facilities at the nearby state parks are functional rather than resort-style. At Beeds Lake State Park, modern restrooms with showers serve both the east and west sections of the campground, and a sanitary dump station is available for RVs. Electric hookups are common across the loops; full hookups are limited, so plan for tank management on longer stays. Beeds Lake State Park has both electric and non-electric campsites. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and campground check-in for reservable sites is 4:00 p.m. Cell coverage is generally reliable across Franklin and Hardin counties on major carriers. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late May through September, especially near the lake shorelines, so bring repellent and check pets after hikes.
