Campgrounds and RV parks near Janesville, IA

Janesville sits on the Cedar River in Bremer and Black Hawk counties, roughly ten miles north of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metro area. The surrounding landscape is flat to gently rolling farm country cut by the Cedar River corridor, with public lakes, paved rail trails, and small-town campgrounds within a short drive. The closest developed public campground is George Wyth State Park, an urban wildlife sanctuary between Waterloo and Cedar Falls with four lakes and direct access to the Cedar Valley Trail system. Private options include the Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort across from the Lost Island Waterpark and Themepark, plus smaller river-oriented parks like River Ranch Camping and R Campground. Wilder Park offers additional camping to the north near the Cedar River. Most travelers arrive via US Highway 218 or US 20, which intersect at Waterloo and connect Janesville to Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and the Minnesota border. RV travelers often use the area as a quiet base for exploring the Cedar Valley trail network, area lakes, and family attractions on the south side of Waterloo.

George Wyth State Park is 100 percent reservable through the Iowa DNR reservation system operated by ReserveAmerica, with no first-come, first-served sites. Standard campsites can be booked up to three months in advance, while the day-use lodge and shelters open a longer window. Sites nearest the Cedar River tend to go first during peak season, so book early for summer weekends. Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort takes reservations directly through the KOA website and requires a credit card damage deposit for cabin bookings. RV check-in is at noon, cabin check-in at 3 p.m., with an 11 a.m. checkout for both. Smaller private options like Wilder Park, River Ranch Camping, and R Campground generally take reservations by phone or through their own websites. Callers with large rigs should confirm site length, hookup amps, and turning access before arrival.
