Campgrounds and RV parks near Manilla, IA

Manilla sits in Crawford County in western Iowa, along the West Branch of the West Nishnabotna River. The town is small and rural, but it works as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the rolling hills, glacial lakes, and river valleys of the region. Interstate 80 runs to the south, and US 59 and Iowa 141 provide direct routes to state parks, county recreation areas, and private RV parks within an hour's drive. The closest developed camping is at Prairie Rose State Park, an Iowa DNR park to the southwest. Prairie Rose State Park sits on the shores of a 218-acre artificial lake in the rolling hills of western Iowa's Shelby County. The park preserves remnants of the original tallgrass prairie that once covered the region while providing full-service camping facilities for RVers and tent campers alike. Additional options nearby include Shelby Country Inn and RV Park just off I-80, Black Hawk State Park on a glacial lake to the north, Schildberg Recreation Area near Atlantic, and Whiterock Conservancy's River Campground along the Middle Raccoon River. Most sites in the area are reservable online, and the Iowa state park campgrounds share a single reservation system operated by Iowa DNR.

Iowa state parks use a single reservation platform. All sites at Prairie Rose are 100% reservable via iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com. The campground closes November 1 through March 31. Black Hawk State Park uses the same system. Reservations open well ahead of arrival and last-minute bookings up to the day of arrival are possible when sites remain open. Lakeside and full-hookup sites should be booked as early as possible for summer weekends. Private and county-run options book directly. Shelby Country Inn and RV Park takes reservations by phone at the motel office. Schildberg Recreation Area lists availability through Campspot. Whiterock Conservancy's River Campground uses a self-check-in system on arrival, with reservations arranged through the conservancy office.
