Campgrounds and RV parks near Emporia, KS

Emporia sits at the western edge of the Flint Hills in eastern Kansas, roughly halfway between Wichita and Topeka along Interstate 35. The area gives RV travelers access to tallgrass prairie, reservoir lakes, and a compact college town with full services for restocking, fuel, and repairs before longer routes across the plains. Most developed campgrounds cluster around nearby reservoirs and the Flint Hills corridor. Eisenhower State Park sits on the eastern fringe of the Flint Hills in southern Osage County, at Melvern Lake, a flood-control project on the Marais des Cygnes River basin, and is the largest public campground within easy reach of Emporia. Closer to town, Crossroads RV Park and Campground and Dunhams RV Park and Storage serve travelers who want quick highway access, while Christian Hills Camp And Resort offers a more rural setting. Camp Wood YMCA sits above the Cottonwood River Valley on hundreds of acres of Kansas tallgrass prairie and functions primarily as a youth and group retreat center rather than a standard RV park.

Kansas state park sites use ReserveAmerica. Campsites at Eisenhower State Park can be viewed on the ReserveAmerica campsite calendar and reserved online, and reservations can be made 364 days in advance and tend to fill up quickly during peak seasons. A non-refundable reservation fee applies per campsite, and a Kansas state park vehicle permit is required in addition to the campsite fee. Reservations are limited to a max of 14 days at all of the campsites. Private options like Crossroads RV Park and Campground, Dunhams RV Park and Storage, and Christian Hills Camp And Resort are booked directly with the operator by phone or through their own websites, and generally offer more flexibility on last-minute stays than the state park in summer. Camp Wood YMCA runs on a group and program schedule and is not a drop-in RV park.
