Campgrounds and RV parks near Leon, KS

Leon sits in Butler County in the Flint Hills of south-central Kansas, roughly a half-hour drive northeast of Wichita and just south of El Dorado Lake. The area's main camping draw is El Dorado State Park, located in the Flint Hills, with an immense wildlife area, over 8,000 acres of water, and 98 miles of shoreline. It holds the title of Kansas' largest state park and anchors RV trips in this region. RV renters have several options within a short drive of Leon. Walnut River Area and Bluestem Point sit inside El Dorado State Park and handle the bulk of hookup camping around the lake. Deer Grove RV Park, 4 Mile Creek Resort - RV Park and Campground, and Christian Hills Camp And Resort offer private-park alternatives with varying amenities. The state park contains four campgrounds with nearly 1,100 campsites that range from primitive to full utility hookups, so availability is generally strong outside peak summer weekends and holidays.

State-park sites at Walnut River Area and Bluestem Point are handled through the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Standard site details include a 2:00 PM check-in and check-out and 50/30/20 amp electric service on full-hookup sites, and reservations can be made online or by phone. A daily or annual state park vehicle permit is required in addition to the camping fee, and permits are available online, from the park office, or at a self-pay station. Private parks such as Deer Grove RV Park, 4 Mile Creek Resort - RV Park and Campground, and Christian Hills Camp And Resort book directly through the campground operator. Cancellation terms differ between the state park and private operators, so review the policy for the specific site before confirming a reservation.
