Campgrounds and RV parks near Mission Hills, KS

Mission Hills sits minutes from the Country Club Plaza shopping and dining district, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the Kansas City Zoo. Families using Worlds Of Fun Village have walking access to the Worlds of Fun theme park and the Oceans of Fun waterpark, which run on a seasonal schedule. Sports travelers can build trips around Kansas City Royals baseball and Kansas City Chiefs football at the Truman Sports Complex, or racing weekends at the Kansas Speedway. Day trips reach Smithville Lake to the north for swimming beaches, boat ramps, and trails, and Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake to the southeast for boating and walking paths. Closer in, the Frontier Military Historic Byway runs past Walnut Grove RV Park and links a chain of historic fort sites.

Kansas City has a humid continental climate with cold winters, hot humid summers, and frequent thunderstorms in spring and summer. Travelers planning around weather usually find mid-April to mid-May and mid-September to mid-October the most comfortable windows, with autumn typically drier and steadier than spring. Seasonality affects which campgrounds are even open. Walnut Grove RV Park and Peculiar Park Place RV Park operate year-round, which matters for shoulder-season and winter travel. Worlds Of Fun Village is closely tied to the theme park calendar, with peak crowding from May through October during operating season and only limited services in the off-season. Summer brings the highest demand because of theme parks, baseball, and family travel, while severe-weather risk including thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes peaks in late spring and early summer. Winter trips are possible at year-round parks but expect snow, ice, and stretches with highs below freezing; the city normally has about 26 days a year that never climb above freezing.

Metro-area RV parks here lean urban and functional rather than scenic. Sites are generally level with full hookups, 30/50-amp service, and either gravel, paved, or concrete pads, and most parks accept big rigs. Walnut Grove RV Park offers 50 lots with full hookups, paved roads, free Wi-Fi, hot showers, a 24-hour laundromat, a dump station, and a dog area, though sites are positioned close together. Worlds Of Fun Village has 82 full-hookup RV sites with concrete pads, water, sewer, electric, and cable, a seasonal pool and hot tub, a convenience store, and walking access to the theme park gate. Peculiar Park Place RV Park has 60 level pull-through sites with 20/30/50-amp service, propane, laundry, and walking trails. Cell coverage across the metro is generally reliable.
