Campgrounds and RV parks near Perry, KS

Water recreation drives most trips. Perry Reservoir is known for excellent crappie and channel catfishing, along with boating and swimming. Clinton Lake adds sailing, a full-service marina, and shoreline swim beaches. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding are strong here. Perry State Park has about 16 miles of trails open to horse, bike, and foot travel. Clinton State Park features a 25-mile hike and bike trail, a 5-mile cross-country ski trail, an archery range, 18-hole and 9-hole disc golf courses, a swim beach, a mountain bike skills course, a 3-acre trout pond, and a 1-acre children's fishing pond. Wildlife viewing is a family draw, with white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, waterfowl, and songbirds common in the reservoir parks. Lawrence and Topeka are both within easy reach for a rainy-day museum or restaurant break.

The core camping season in this part of Kansas runs mid-spring through mid-fall. Kansas state park loops typically operate their full-service utility sites from spring through fall, while primitive areas stay accessible longer. Lake Shawnee operates a defined on-season: reservations are accepted for arrivals between May 15 and September 15, and water is turned off after mid-October in the off-season loops. Late spring is the wettest window. May brings the highest monthly rainfall totals in the Topeka area, averaging over five inches, which can soften low-lying primitive sites and raise lake levels along the Delaware River arms of Perry Reservoir. Severe thunderstorms and tornado watches are most common from April through June, so an NOAA weather radio is worth packing. Summer weekends and the three big holidays fill up first. At Lake Shawnee, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day reservations require a three-night minimum stay. Fall brings cooler nights, lighter crowds, and good wildlife viewing along Clinton and Perry reservoirs.

Hookup levels vary widely. Clinton State Park has 368 total sites, including 102 water and electric sites at 30/20 amp, 68 water and electric sites at 50/30/20 amp, 34 full-hookup sites at 50/30/20 amp with water and sewer, and 164 primitive sites. Perry State Park mixes utility loops with primitive areas across Lakeview, Turkey Run, and Jefferson Point. Lake Shawnee is the most urban option, with 150 sites offering electric and water hookups, plus concrete-pad full-hookup sections available in-season. Pull-through sites, big-rig access, and waterfront sites are all part of the layout, and a dump station sits across the street from the campground. Cell service can be spotty on the wooded loops at Perry State Park. Pets are welcome at most campgrounds, though not inside state park cabins.
