Campgrounds near St. Marys, Kansas
St. Marys sits along US Highway 24 in Pottawatomie County, about 25 miles northwest of Topeka on the northern edge of the Flint Hills. The town works well as a base for RV travelers exploring the Kansas River valley, Wamego, Manhattan, and the tallgrass prairie region to the south. Kansas Turnpike and Interstate 70 access is roughly 15 to 20 minutes south, which keeps arrivals and supply runs simple for larger rigs.
Campground options within a short drive lean toward small private parks and rural RV parks rather than large resorts. Mill Creek Campground in nearby Paxico is the closest full-service option, with Calvin's RV Camping outside Wamego and The Ridge RV Park also within easy reach. Prairie Band Casino Resort RV Park sits about 20 miles north near Mayetta, and Oregon Trail RV Park - Westmoreland covers travelers heading north on US 99.
Most sites in the area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, and pull-through sites are common.
Things to do near St. Marys
The Flint Hills region south of town is the main outdoor draw, with rolling tallgrass prairie, wildlife viewing, and scenic drives along the Native Stone and Flint Hills National Scenic Byways. Fishing and paddling are available on Mill Creek and the Kansas River, and Tuttle Creek Lake and Perry Lake are both within an hour for boating and larger reservoir recreation.
Wamego, ten miles east, hosts the Oz Museum and a walkable downtown. Manhattan, home to Kansas State University, adds college-town dining, museums, and the Konza Prairie Biological Station trails. Topeka offers the Kansas State Capitol, Evel Knievel Museum, and the Combat Air Museum for rainy-day options.
Paxico, near Mill Creek Campground, is known for antique shops and small wineries.

Late spring through early fall is the practical RV window in this part of Kansas. May through early June brings green prairie, wildflowers, and the region's wettest weather, including the peak severe-thunderstorm season. Travelers should monitor forecasts and choose parks with sturdy hookups and, where possible, storm shelter access.
Summer runs hot and humid, with July and August highs frequently in the upper 80s and 90s and overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s. Sites with 50 amp service and shade are worth prioritizing. Late September and October are often the most comfortable stretch of the year, with warm days, cool nights, and lower rainfall, making it a strong window for prairie drives and lake stays.
Winter is cold and dry. Some private parks reduce services or close seasonally, and freezing temperatures can affect water hookups, so travelers should confirm winter operations before booking.

How to book campgrounds near St. Marys
Private parks in the area, including Mill Creek Campground, Calvin's RV Camping, The Ridge RV Park, and Oregon Trail RV Park - Westmoreland, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, with some also listed on third-party booking platforms. Prairie Band Casino Resort RV Park is booked through the resort directly and often ties in with casino stays.
For state park camping at nearby Tuttle Creek, Perry, and Milford Lakes, reservations run through the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks reservation system, which opens sites up to 364 days in advance, with prime-season release dates announced each December.
For federal Corps of Engineers campgrounds on the same reservoirs, use Recreation.gov. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill first, so book several weeks out for summer holidays.
What to expect
Expect a rural, quiet setting with small-town amenities close at hand. St. Marys itself has grocery, fuel, hardware, and basic dining along US 24, and Wamego and Manhattan cover larger shopping and RV service needs. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the highway corridor but can weaken in creek bottoms and further into the Flint Hills.
Roads to most listed campgrounds are paved or well-maintained gravel and accommodate larger rigs, though travelers with big rigs should confirm site length at smaller parks like Calvin's RV Camping. Wind is a near-constant factor on the prairie, and thunderstorms in spring and early summer can be intense.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall, so pack repellent and check pets after walks.
