Baldwinville camping overview
Baldwinville is a village in the town of Templeton in north central Massachusetts, positioned within easy reach of several established campgrounds that draw RV travelers from Boston, Worcester, and southern New Hampshire. The area sits in a corridor of state forest, Army Corps of Engineers land, and family-run parks, with Route 2 providing the main access route.
The closest public option is Otter River State Forest Entrance at 86 Winchendon Road in Baldwinville, managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Just up Route 202, Lake Dennison State Recreational Area offers wooded camping on the shores of an 85-acre lake and forms a section of the Army Corps of Engineers Birch Hill Flood Control Project, with DCR staff from Otter River managing more than 4,000 acres of Army Corps land for recreation.
Private options fill in around the state land. Peaceful Pines Family Campground, Lamb City Campground and Variety in nearby Phillipston, and Woodmore Family Campground and RV Park round out the choices for travelers seeking full hookups, pools, and family programming that the state sites do not provide.
Things to do near Baldwinville
Water and trails anchor most trip plans. Lake Dennison State Recreational Area offers swimming, fishing, and a boat ramp for canoes and other non-gas-powered boats, plus access to 50 miles of mountain biking trails in the adjacent Birch Hill Wildlife Management Area. At Otter River State Forest Entrance, developed facilities are centered on two-acre Beaman Pond and include a basketball court, volleyball court, and picnic areas, with hiking and fishing on site.
Families staying at private parks have added amenities such as swimming pools, stocked fishing ponds, camp stores, and full hook-up pull-through sites at places like Lamb City Campground and Variety and Woodmore Family Campground and RV Park.
Off-site day trips include Red Apple Farm in Phillipston for orchard visits, the Mohawk Trail scenic corridor to the west, and the Quabbin Reservoir area to the south for wildlife viewing.

The state campgrounds run a warm-weather season. Lake Dennison State Recreational Area and Otter River State Forest Entrance typically open in late spring and close in early fall, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Campers and camping equipment are limited to 14 cumulative days occupancy in any one park between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Waterfront sites at Lake Dennison book up first, so travelers targeting July and August should reserve as early as possible.
Shoulder season brings tradeoffs. Late spring is quieter but blackflies and mosquitoes peak in May and June. September and early October pair cool nights with strong foliage color across the north central Massachusetts hills, and site availability improves considerably.
Winter operations are limited. Lamb City Campground and Variety on Royalston Road in Phillipston operates on an extended season, but the state parks close after their fall shutdown. RVers should confirm water service in advance, since freeze protection varies by park and cold nights arrive early in this inland region.
