Campgrounds near Buffalo, Missouri
Buffalo sits in Dallas County in the Missouri Ozarks, roughly a half-hour north of Springfield and within easy driving distance of the Niangua River corridor and Bennett Spring State Park. The area draws RV travelers with a mix of state-park camping, private riverfront resorts, and small outfitter campgrounds geared toward float trips and trout fishing.
Bennett Spring State Park, northeast of Buffalo near Lebanon, is the anchor destination. It encompasses 3,216 acres, which includes the Niangua River and the Bennett Springs. Bennett Spring State Park has five campgrounds and offers modern, semi-modern, and primitive campsites. Camp 5 and Camp 3 are common RV picks inside the park, with electric and hookup options across the loops.
Along the river itself, private options include Fort Niangua River Resort / Under new ownership, Niangua River Oasis, and Hidden Valley Outfitters. These riverfront properties combine campsites with canoe, kayak, raft, and tube rentals, making them practical bases for families combining paddling with RV camping.
Things to do near Buffalo
Trout fishing drives most trips to this corner of the Ozarks. More than 100 million gallons of clear, cool water gush from Bennett Spring each day and form a spring branch stocked daily with rainbow trout. The Conservation Department stocks trout every evening from the day before the March 1 opener through Oct. 30. Daily trout tags are required for anglers in the park zones.
Floating the Niangua is the other big draw. The river is a mellow Ozark stream with gravel bars and easy current, making it popular with first-timers, families, and casual groups. Outfitters near Fort Niangua River Resort / Under new ownership, Niangua River Oasis, and Hidden Valley Outfitters run shuttles for half-day and full-day floats.
Inside Bennett Spring State Park, families also use the hiking trails, the trout hatchery, and an Olympic-size swimming pool that operates during the summer season.

The Missouri trout park season sets the rhythm for this area. The opening of the catch-and-keep trout fishing season on March 1 is an important Missouri tradition, marking the beginning of a season that runs until Oct. 31. The season officially begins at 6:30 a.m. at Bennett Spring State Park near Lebanon, Montauk State Park near Salem, and Roaring River State Park. Opening weekend and holiday weekends pack the park and nearby campgrounds, so reservations should be locked in months out.
Spring and early summer bring higher, cooler water and the strongest trout action. Summer weekends draw the biggest crowds on the Niangua, with music and group floats common at the private riverfront properties. Weekday visits are noticeably quieter.
A winter catch-and-release season runs from the second Friday in November to the second Monday in February on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday only. Water access at some park sites is seasonal: water at the individual campsites is available April 15 through Oct. 15, and Campground 4 and Campground 5 are open Feb. 25 through Oct. 31 (with water available).
How to book near Buffalo
Bennett Spring State Park sites are booked through the Missouri State Parks reservation system. Campers can reserve a Missouri State Parks campsite up to 12 months in advance, expanding from the previous six-month window. Reservations may also be made by calling toll free 877-ICampMO (877-422-6766). Reservations for Bennett Spring State Park have no minimum stay requirement.
Not every loop is reservable. All of the campgrounds except Campground 5 accept reservations. Campground 5 is first come, first served. Reservable sites may be available on a walk-up registration basis if the site is not reserved.
Private campgrounds such as Fort Niangua River Resort / Under new ownership, Niangua River Oasis, and Hidden Valley Outfitters book directly through the operator. For summer weekends and opening weekend of trout season, reserve as early as possible; cancellations occur, so late planners should keep watching openings.
What to expect in Buffalo
The park layout matters for RV drivers. Five campgrounds sit in the wooded hills of the park, and significant uphill travel is required to reach Campgrounds 2, 3, 4 and 5. Bennett Spring State Park can accommodate RVs up to 65 feet in length. Hookups vary by loop, from basic and electric-only sites to sewer, electric, and water combinations, and on-season services include reservable sites, a dump station, showers and laundry.
The showerhouse in Campground 1 is open year-round. Pets are allowed with rules: pets must be supervised and kept on leashes no longer than 10 feet at all times. Private riverfront campgrounds along the Niangua tend to be busier and louder on summer weekends, with music and group floats common.

Pro tip: March 1 is Missouri's trout park opening day, one of the most exciting events near Buffalo, and rigs book out fast.

You can also message your host any time during the trip if a question pops up. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first run, they handle just like a big truck.

RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so the info is on your phone if you ever need help.

For those peak windows, book 4 to 6 months ahead. For shoulder-season weekdays, you can often grab a site within a few weeks. Private parks near Buffalo like Cedar Ridge and Marble Top usually have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: Bennett Spring's Campground 5 is first-come, first-served, a great backup if reservations are full.
mostateparks.com/park/bennett-spring/campingWhat are local driving conditions like around Buffalo?
Driving here is friendly to RVs. Buffalo sits at the crossroads of US Highway 65 (a four-lane divided highway) and Missouri Route 32, both well maintained and easy to handle in any motorhome rental in Buffalo. Expect rolling Ozark hills rather than steep mountain grades, light traffic outside of Springfield rush hour, and the occasional deer at dawn and dusk, so drive cautiously around sunrise and sunset. Spring brings thunderstorms and rare tornado watches, and winter can produce ice on bridges, so check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map before you roll. Pro tip: avoid narrow gravel roads east of Bennett Spring with anything over 30 feet, stick to paved state routes like Highway 64 instead.

Private parks around Buffalo like Fort Niangua River Resort and Marble Top typically offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, and propane refills. Most have potable water fills near the entrance. You'll feel right at home. Most Buffalo RV rentals on RVezy come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, bunks for the kids, a working kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control, dining seating with seatbelts for travel, and basics like linens, pots, and dishes. Hosts make it easy to customize. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Missouri include linen and kitchen packs ($25-$75), camp chairs and tables, generators, bike racks, kayak/paddleboard rentals (perfect for the Niangua River), portable grills, and even pre-stocked firewood. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Buffalo or a nearby town like Bolivar, Lebanon, or Springfield, and many hosts offer delivery directly to Bennett Spring or Pomme de Terre State Park for a flat fee based on mileage. Mileage policies, generator hours, and pet fees are spelled out clearly on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen pack so you arrive at camp to a fully ready RV.
mostateparks.com/park/bennett-spring/campingHow does payment and the security deposit work?
It is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Deposit amounts vary by listing and typically range from $500 to $1,500 for Buffalo-area RVs. To avoid any deductions, complete the pre-trip walkthrough carefully, photograph the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off, respect the mileage and generator limits, and return the rig with the fuel and propane levels noted in the agreement. Pro tip: a quick five-minute video walkaround is the best deposit insurance you can give yourself.
