Campgrounds near Fayette, Missouri
Fayette sits in Howard County in central Missouri, roughly 25 miles northwest of Columbia and within a short drive of the Missouri River. RV renters use it as a low-traffic base for exploring the Boone's Lick region, the Katy Trail State Park corridor, and the small state parks and historic sites strung along Interstate 70.
Options near town range from small-town fairground camping at MRVSEA Camping area at Bradys Showgrounds to state-run sites at Arrow Rock State Historic Site, about 30 minutes west along Highway 41. Finger Lakes State Park lies south near Columbia and is one of two ATV parks in the state parks system, built in a former coal mining area with hilly terrain and a spacious campground. Cottonwoods RV Park offers a private full-hookup park closer to the city, and Pine Grove Village Community rounds out the local choices for longer stays.
Most sites in this area are easy to reach in a rental motorhome or travel trailer. Roads are paved, terrain is gently rolling, and none of the closest campgrounds require mountain driving or narrow forest access.
Things to do near Fayette
Arrow Rock State Historic Site anchors the cultural side of the trip. Visitors can tour restored 19th-century buildings including the J. Huston Tavern and George Caleb Bingham's home, plus a visitor center covering the Santa Fe Trail and Boone's Lick country. The site includes short wooded trails and a small fishing lake.
Finger Lakes State Park, built in a former coal mining area, is one of two ATV parks in the Missouri state parks system, with a motocross track, the Kelley Branch Mountain Bike Trail, and a 4.5-mile water trail. Seven flooded strip-pits are open for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing.
The Katy Trail State Park, a rail-trail crossing the state, is within reach for cycling day trips, and downtown Columbia adds restaurants, breweries, and University of Missouri events.

Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. Days are mild, humidity is lower than midsummer, and fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October. Summer weekends and holidays fill quickly at both state parks, and reservations are recommended well in advance.
Winter trips are possible for self-contained rigs. Expect vault toilets only, freezing overnight temperatures, and occasional snow or ice storms that can affect rural county roads around Fayette.
How to book campgrounds near Fayette
Missouri State Parks sites, including Arrow Rock State Historic Site and Finger Lakes State Park, are reserved through the state's official reservation system online or by calling 877-ICampMO (877-422-6766). Missouri state parks open campsite reservations 12 months in advance, with availability released at 7:00 AM local Missouri time. A minimum stay of two nights is required for weekend reservations at several state parks, and the two-night minimum must be Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday.
Walk-up registration is available when sites are not reserved, but weekends, holidays, and event dates at Arrow Rock and Finger Lakes routinely book out.
Private options such as Cottonwoods RV Park, MRVSEA Camping area at Bradys Showgrounds, and Pine Grove Village Community are booked directly with the operator. County fairgrounds and event-based sites can have limited availability during show weekends, so call ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Fayette lean rustic to mid-service. Arrow Rock State Historic Site offers basic and electric campsites, a dump station, flush toilets, and a shower house during the warm season. Finger Lakes State Park offers basic campsites and 30-amp and 50-amp electric sites, operating year-round with full amenities during the on-season and limited services in the off-season. Each site has a paved parking pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern holder.
Cell coverage is inconsistent at the state parks and drops to a bar or two on some carriers. Firewood and ice are available for purchase at the park office, and campers bringing wood from outside must follow current firewood advisories.
Finger Lakes is a working ORV park, so daytime engine noise is normal. Arrow Rock is quieter and better suited to families looking for history and easy walks into the small historic village.
