Campgrounds and RV parks near Hallsville, MO

Finger Lakes State Park is the main draw for active trips. The park spans more than 1,000 acres of reclaimed land with rolling hills, multiple lakes, a sandy swim beach, and over 70 miles of off-road trails used by ATVs and off-road motorcycles. Non-riders can hike, mountain bike, paddle a 4.5-mile water trail, or fish for bass, crappie, and catfish. The Katy Trail State Park, the longest developed rail-trail in the country, runs south of Hallsville along the Missouri River and is easily reached from Coopers Landing Campgrounds for cycling and walking. Columbia adds dining, shopping, and University of Missouri events within a short drive, making rainy-day and evening plans straightforward.

Central Missouri has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid with much of the year's heaviest precipitation, while winters are cold with regular snowfall and are the driest part of the year. Spring is typically wet with thunderstorms, and fall runs drier with moderate temperatures, which many RV renters prefer for comfort. At Finger Lakes State Park, water to the campground is shut off and the showerhouse is closed during the off-season from November through March, though the campground itself remains open year-round. Showers, campground water, and the dump station are available April through October. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day are the busiest window, especially for ATV riders, so booking well ahead is important. Shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, and October generally offer better availability and cooler daytime temperatures for hiking and cycling.

Finger Lakes State Park has 36 sites, with 16 offering 30-amp or 50-amp electric hookups and the remainder as basic sites. Sites 11 through 17 are set up with 50-amp service suitable for larger rigs, and each site includes a paved parking pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern holder. Two loops of basic sites connect directly to the ORV trail system, so expect engine noise on peak weekends. Coopers Landing has two camping areas with RV sites and primitive tent camping, restrooms and showers inside the store during store hours, plus outdoor port-a-potties and 24-hour water hydrants. Live music runs Thursday through Sunday, so it fits social trips more than quiet retreats. Firewood should generally be sourced on site or purchased locally to limit pest transport.
