Campgrounds and RV parks near Holts Summit, MO

The Katy Trail State Park is the region's headline attraction for RV travelers. The trail runs 240 miles across Missouri between Clinton and Machens, with 26 trailheads and river access points within easy reach of local campgrounds. Cycling, walking, and birding along the Missouri River corridor are the main draws. Jefferson City, directly across the river, adds indoor options: the Missouri State Capitol, the Runge Conservation Nature Center, and the Missouri State Penitentiary tour. Anglers head to the Osage and Missouri Rivers for catfish and white bass. Guests at Coopers Landing Campgrounds can combine camping with the on-site marina, general store, and live music venue on the riverbank.

Central Missouri has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and humid with average high temperatures in the mid-80s Fahrenheit, and winters are cold with average lows dipping to around 20 degrees Fahrenheit and regular snowfall. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with mild days and cool nights. Spring can be wet. April is the wettest month, averaging around 139 mm of precipitation across roughly 13 rainy days, and river-adjacent sites near Coopers Landing Campgrounds and Mari-Osa Campground can be affected when the Missouri or Osage runs high. Summer months bring thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes, so travelers should watch severe-weather forecasts. Summer weekends and holiday weekends fill fastest at state park campgrounds and popular private parks. Fall brings drier weather, changing hardwoods along the river bluffs, and easier last-minute booking. Some private parks scale back services in winter, though Coopers Landing operates year-round.

Sites near Holts Summit are typically wooded gravel or grass pads with a mix of full-hookup, electric-only, and primitive options. Big-rig access is generally good along US 54 and Route OO, but some riverside approaches involve narrow lanes and short grades, so travelers with 35-foot-plus coaches should confirm site length before booking. Expect a rural, working-river atmosphere rather than a resort feel. Cell coverage on major carriers is generally usable across the corridor, though it thins in the hollows west of town. At Coopers Landing Campgrounds, plan for basic facilities alongside a busier social scene: two camping areas with RV sites and primitive camping, a restroom with shower and laundry inside the store during store hours, plus outdoor port-a-potties and water hydrants available around the clock. Bring insect repellent in summer and check river-stage forecasts before arrival.
