Campgrounds near Lake Ozark
Lake Ozark sits at the northeast end of the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri, where Bagnell Dam holds back the Osage River to form a reservoir with 89 miles of shoreline running through Missouri's largest state park. The city functions as a base for boating, fishing, and lakefront recreation, with U.S. Route 54 connecting it north to Jefferson City and south through Osage Beach to Camdenton.
RV travelers have several private options within a short drive of the Bagnell Dam Strip. Ozarks Landing RV Resort and Shorewood Landing RV Park and Campground sit closest to the water, while Cross Creek RV Park and Campground occupies a 70-acre wooded property about 3.5 miles from the dam with a private fishing lake. Osage Beach RV Park lies south in the heart of Osage Beach, and Majestic Oaks RV Park and Campground rounds out the list of nearby options.
Lake of the Ozarks State Park, the state's largest, offers the main public campground option in the area, with basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water sites split across four sections, plus family sites and yurts.
Things to do around Lake Ozark
The lake itself drives most trip plans. Boating, swimming, fishing, and canoeing are the primary draws, with two paved boat launches inside Lake of the Ozarks State Park and marinas throughout the area. Guided tours of Ozark Caverns run from May through September, and the park's 13 hiking trails cover woodlands, glades, and blufftop lake views.
Ha Ha Tonka State Park, a short drive southwest near Camdenton, features stone castle ruins on a bluff, a natural bridge, sinkholes, caves, and one of Missouri's largest springs. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the park, including a wooden staircase that leads to the castle overlook.
On the Bagnell Dam Strip in Lake Ozark, families can find restaurants, mini-golf, and lake tour boats. Bridal Cave near Camdenton is another common half-day trip.

- summer
June - August
88° / 66°F 84 mmHot and humid; peak lake traffic, sites fill months out

December - February

Summer is peak season. June through August brings hot, humid weather and the busiest lake traffic, with July the warmest month and the highest tourist volume. Lake of the Ozarks State Park is popular enough that summer reservations sometimes fill months in advance, and weekend stays require a two-night minimum, either Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday.
Spring and fall are quieter and generally comfortable for RV camping. May is the wettest month, so late-spring trips should plan for rain and thunderstorms. Fall brings cooler air, lower humidity, and hardwood color through October, and it is a good window for hiking Ha Ha Tonka before daylight shortens.
Winters are cold with occasional snow. State park campgrounds remain open year-round, but during the off-season from November through March, potable water at Lake of the Ozarks State Park is available only at the check station, so cold-weather RVers should plan for dry camping or tank fills before arrival.
How to book campgrounds near Lake Ozark
Reservations at Lake of the Ozarks State Park are handled through Missouri State Parks. Sites can be booked up to 12 months in advance, either online through the state parks reservation portal at icampmo.com or by phone at 877-422-6766, which operates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time. Weekends require a two-night minimum stay of Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, and reservable sites may be available on a walk-up basis if not booked.
Private parks including Ozarks Landing RV Resort, Shorewood Landing RV Park and Campground, Cross Creek RV Park and Campground, Osage Beach RV Park, and Majestic Oaks RV Park and Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer holiday weekends, book early.
What to expect on the ground
Lake of the Ozarks is a developed reservoir with a well-earned reputation for busy, boat-heavy summer weekends and lively lakefront bars. Travelers looking for quiet nights should target midweek stays or shoulder-season dates.
Site types vary widely. Lake of the Ozarks State Park offers basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water sites across four campground sections, with newly renovated 50-amp sites in section 4. Private parks in the area typically offer full hookups with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric, along with amenities like pools, laundry, and camp stores.
Terrain is Ozark hill country, meaning wooded access roads with grade. Some private campgrounds sit down steep gravel drives that can be slick after rain, so drivers of larger rigs should call ahead about site dimensions and grade.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lake%20Ozark%2C%20MissouriDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Missouri?
Great news for first-time renters: your regular Class F driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lake Ozark. Missouri specifically exempts recreational vehicles operated for personal use from any Commercial Driver License (CDL) requirement, so whether you book a campervan, Class C motorhome, or even a big Class A, no special endorsement is required. To book on RVezy, you simply need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and ID verification is handled right inside the platform. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. It's honestly easier than renting a car at the airport, so you can focus on planning the fun stuff.
dor.mo.gov/driver-license/What protection or coverage is included when I rent an RV in Lake of the Ozarks?
You can book your Lake of the Ozarks RV trip with peace of mind because every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. Protection plans cover physical damage to the vehicle within plan limits, so you are not stressing over every gravel road on the way to Ha Ha Tonka State Park. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip (not the host), which means you stay in control of how much coverage you want. Plans are not traditional insurance, but they provide substantial financial protection so you can focus on the lake. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers the night before booking so you can pick confidently without rushing.

That means you can lock in a Memorial Day or Fourth of July site near Lake Ozark now and still have flexibility if life shifts. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so your trip is protected. Pro tip: book early for peak summer weekends, when Bagnell Dam Strip events fill up fast, and review the cancellation tiers at checkout so you know your refund window.

Popular delivery destinations include Lake of the Ozarks State Park in Kaiser, Osage Beach RV Park, and Cross Creek RV Park. Just use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lake%20Ozark%2C%20MissouriWhere are the best campgrounds near Lake Ozark, MO?
The best campgrounds near Lake Ozark cover every style of camping. Lake of the Ozarks State Park (Kaiser) is Missouri's largest state park with 89 miles of shoreline, electric and 50-amp sites, and recently renovated Section 4. Osage Beach RV Park sits just off Osage Beach Parkway with full hookups and is walking distance to shops. Lake of the Ozarks / Linn Creek KOA Holiday is centrally located between Osage Beach and Camdenton. Cross Creek RV Park & Campground is 3.5 miles from the lake with its own fishing lake, and Ozarks Landing RV Resort on the Osage River is quieter and great for relaxing. Pro tip: book state park sites up to 12 months ahead for the best lakefront spots.
mostateparks.com/park/lake-ozarks/campingWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Lake of the Ozarks?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Lake of the Ozarks is late April through early June, and again from September through mid-October. In those windows, daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to mid-80s F, humidity is lower, and the lake is still warm enough to swim. Summer (June through August) brings hot, muggy days in the upper 80s to low 90s F and is the busiest tourism season, so rentals and campsites book fast. Fall delivers stunning Ozark foliage along the bluffs and trails. Pro tip: target Labor Day through early October if you want warm-water swimming with smaller crowds and that golden Missouri autumn light.
weather.gov/lsx/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting one in Lake Ozark a good idea?
Yes, and Lake Ozark is actually a friendly place for first-time renting an RV. Most RVezy hosts here provide a thorough walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, water systems, awning, and slide-outs, plus their personal phone number if you have questions on the road. The main highways around the lake (US-54, MO-5, MO-42) are well-marked and easy to navigate, though the side roads can be hilly and winding. To make things even simpler, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a travel trailer, or book a host who offers delivery and setup at your campground. Pro tip: do your first night at the campground close to pickup so you can practice in low-stakes mode before exploring.
mostateparks.com/park/lake-ozarks-state-parkWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every motorhome rental in Lake Ozark booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on US-54 or a dead battery at the campground is just a phone call away. Your host is also your first line of help and usually responds quickly to messages through the RVezy app. On top of that, RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. For local backup, there are RV service shops in Osage Beach and Camdenton if anything mechanical comes up. Pro tip: save your host number and RVezy support line to your phone before you leave the pickup driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are some great road trip routes from Lake Ozark, MO?
Lake Ozark is a fantastic basecamp for a Missouri RV road trip. Popular routes include heading about 45 minutes south to Ha Ha Tonka State Park for castle ruins and natural bridges, 2.5 hours southwest to Branson for live shows and Table Rock Lake, 3 hours east to St. Louis for the Gateway Arch and Forest Park, 3 hours west to Kansas City for barbecue and the Country Club Plaza, or about 2 hours south into the Mark Twain National Forest for backcountry quiet. Most trips stay within Missouri, but if you want to cross state lines into Arkansas or Kansas, that is allowed. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: loop Lake Ozark, Branson, and Springfield for a memorable 5-day road trip.
visitmo.com/things-to-do/outdoors/state-parksHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lake of the Ozarks RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so plan smart and you will come in well under budget. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs about 6 to 10, campervans 14 to 20, and a truck towing a travel trailer around 10 to 14. Missouri consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, often below the national average, which helps a lot. For a typical 200-mile weekend loop around the lake, budget roughly $60 to $120 in fuel for most rigs. Pro tip: fill up in Camdenton or Eldon where prices tend to run cheaper than the Osage Beach tourist strip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campsite at Lake of the Ozarks?
Book early and you'll get exactly the spot you want. Missouri State Parks opens campsite reservations 12 months in advance at 7 a.m. CST through icampmo1.usedirect.com/MSPWeb/ or by calling 877-422-6766. For Lake of the Ozarks State Park, summer weekends and holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) fill up months ahead, especially the lakefront Section 4 sites. Private parks like Osage Beach RV Park, Cross Creek, and the Linn Creek KOA usually open bookings further out and have more last-minute flexibility. Weekend stays at the state park require a two-night minimum (Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun). Pro tip: if you strike out on a holiday weekend, check the cancellation list 2 to 3 weeks before, since spots free up regularly.
mostateparks.com/park/lake-ozarks/campingWhat are the local driving conditions like around the Lake of the Ozarks?
Driving around the Lake of the Ozarks is straightforward, but a heads-up helps. The main arteries (US-54, MO-5, MO-42, and the Community Bridge) are wide and RV-friendly, with plenty of pull-through gas stations in Osage Beach and Camdenton. Side roads off the highway, especially the lettered routes (like KK, HH, and Y) leading to coves, get winding and steep with sharp curves, so take them slowly in a big rig. Traffic in Osage Beach can back up during peak summer weekends, especially near the Outlet Marketplace and Bagnell Dam Strip. Winter ice is occasional but plowing is reliable. Pro tip: use the Community Bridge to skip the Bagnell Dam bottleneck on busy Saturdays.
modot.org/What amenities can I expect at Lake of the Ozarks campgrounds?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for an easy RV stay. At Lake of the Ozarks State Park you'll find basic sites, 30-amp and 50-amp electric sites, the new sewer/water/electric sites in Section 4, plus showers, laundry, a dump station, two swimming beaches, and a Camper Store near the entrance. Private parks like Osage Beach RV Park and Linn Creek KOA add full hookups, Wi-Fi, pools, and on-site propane refills. Most parks have at least one dump station and potable water fill, and many have boat ramps directly on the lake. Pro tip: at the state park, Section 4 has the newest hookups (sewer included) and the closest access to Public Beach 1, so request it when booking.
mostateparks.com/park/lake-ozarks/campingWhat's actually inside an RV rental in Lake Ozark?
More than you might expect. Most Lake of the Ozarks rentals come fully equipped: a queen or king bed, bunks or convertible dinette for kids, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning (a must for Missouri summers), heat, and seatbelts for traveling passengers. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often add a TV, generator, outdoor speakers, and sometimes an outdoor kitchen. Campervan rentals in Lake Ozark tend to be more minimalist but include the essentials for two. Wi-Fi varies by host, but cell coverage around the lake is solid. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm linens, towels, and a stocked kitchen kit are included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lake%20Ozark%2C%20MissouriWhat add-ons and options are available when I rent an RV in Lake Ozark?
Hosts offer popular add-ons that make your trip easier. Common extras include linen and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor tables, generators for boondocking, bike racks, paddleboards or kayaks (a huge upgrade for the lake), and propane refills. Many hosts in Lake Ozark also offer delivery and setup as an add-on, with pricing based on distance to your campground. Pickup and drop-off times are set in the listing, and mileage policies vary, with some offering unlimited miles. Pro tip: bundling delivery with a kayak add-on lets you skip the boat ramp lines and launch right from your campsite cove.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lake%20Ozark%2C%20MissouriHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay the full booking through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects you on both ends. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment before your trip starts and released back to you shortly after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos and videos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup and drop-off, and walk through the inventory checklist with your host. Pro tip: do a quick interior video on your phone right after the orientation walkthrough at pickup, that 30-second clip is the single best way to keep your deposit drama-free.
