Campgrounds and RV parks near New Bloomfield, MO

The Katy Trail State Park runs along the Missouri River just north of town. At 240 miles, it is the longest developed rail-trail in the country, built on a crushed-limestone surface suited to hiking, running, and cycling on almost any bike, with 26 trailheads and four restored railroad depots spaced along the route. Riders often base at a nearby RV park and pedal out-and-back sections between North Jefferson and Hartsburg or Rocheport. In Jefferson City, the Runge Conservation Nature Center offers free indoor exhibits, a 3,580-gallon fish aquarium, and 2.4 miles of hiking trails, plus a 60-foot fire tower with a panoramic view. The State Capitol, Missouri State Penitentiary tours, and Binder Park mountain-bike trails round out the in-town options. To the south, the Osage River provides fishing, kayaking, and easy river access from several of the private campgrounds.

Central Missouri has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot, humid, and prone to thunderstorms, with average July highs near 89 F. Peak camping demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and popular sites on the Katy Trail corridor and at Lake of the Ozarks fill weeks ahead for holiday weekends. Spring brings the year's heaviest rainfall, with May typically the wettest month. Wildflowers and mild temperatures make April and May a strong window for trail riding, though river levels can run high and low-lying sites occasionally flood. Fall is generally the driest and most comfortable stretch, with warm days, cool nights, and hardwood color peaking in mid- to late October. Winters are cold and see regular light snowfall. Many private RV parks stay open year-round with reduced services, while several Missouri State Park campgrounds shift to limited-service or seasonal closures between late fall and early spring.

Most parks in the area are small, family-run, and set on gravel or grass pads. Cedar Creek Resort and RV Park is one of the larger operations, with full hookups, modern bathhouses, and cabin rentals suitable for bigger rigs. Sites at Mari-Osa Campground and Osage Campground and More lean rural, with river frontage, fire rings, and simpler amenities. Cell coverage is generally reliable along US-54 and Highway 63 but can drop in the river bottoms. Grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Jefferson City or Holts Summit rather than in New Bloomfield itself. Expect ticks and chiggers in warm months, mosquitoes near the rivers, and occasional severe thunderstorm and tornado watches from spring into early summer. Check park bulletin boards on arrival for site-specific rules.
