Campgrounds and RV parks near Paris, MO

Mark Twain Lake anchors most trips in the region. The 18,600 acres of water has a reputation as a great crappie and bass lake, and the surrounding Corps of Engineers land includes marinas, swim beaches, and day-use areas. Guests at Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park can combine lake access with on-site family programming. Finger Lakes State Park is the standout for off-road riders, with ATV and motocross trails popular with off-road enthusiasts, plus paddling on the small lakes and hiking loops. Non-riders will find swim areas and quieter camping loops on the same property. Paris is also close to the Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site in Florida, Missouri, and to Hannibal, about 30 minutes from the lake and the hometown of Mark Twain, where riverfront museums, cave tours, and Mississippi River views make a straightforward day trip.

The main camping season across northeast Missouri runs from spring through fall. Water to the campground is shut off and the showerhouse is closed during the off-season (November through March) at Finger Lakes State Park, and similar reductions apply at many state and Corps of Engineers areas around Mark Twain Lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake typically opens campgrounds in late March, with loops phased open through spring. Private parks such as Cedar Creek Resort and RV Park and Cottonwoods RV Park generally keep hookups available later into the fall, though services can be limited in winter. Late spring and early summer bring the busiest weekends, with holidays and lake events booking out first. Summer heat and humidity peak in July and August, while fall brings cooler nights, lower bug pressure, and strong color in the oak-hickory woods around the lake. Winter camping is possible at a handful of private grounds, but expect closed bathhouses, shut-off water lines, and the need for self-contained RV setups. Severe weather, including thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes, is most common from April through June.

Terrain is rolling farmland and hardwood forest, with reservoirs and small rivers rather than mountains. Roads to Paris and the surrounding campgrounds are mostly paved two-lane highways, and access into rural parks can involve short gravel sections. Most sites accommodate mid-size travel trailers and Class C rigs comfortably, and several parks offer pull-throughs for larger units. Hookup availability varies. Finger Lakes State Park offers basic and 30-amp and 50-amp electric campsites, while private grounds like Cedar Creek Resort and RV Park and Cottonwoods RV Park typically offer full hookups. During the on-season (April through October), campers have access to showers, water and a dump station at Finger Lakes. Expect ticks and mosquitoes in summer, patchy cell service in wooded lake areas, and quiet, dark-sky nights across most of the region.
