Campgrounds and RV parks near Perryville, MO

History and outdoor recreation drive most trips here. In town, visitors can see Missouri's National Veterans Memorial, the Faherty House, and the St. Mary of the Barrens shrine. Nearby attractions also include Ball Mill Resurgence Natural Area and Cave Vineyard within roughly a 25-mile radius. Across the river, Fort Kaskaskia SHS preserves earthwork ruins on a bluff. The 200-acre park near Chester, Illinois sits above the Mississippi with sweeping views of the confluence of the Mississippi and Kaskaskia rivers, and commemorates the vanished frontier town of Old Kaskaskia. At Randolph County State Conservation Area, anglers and hikers find room to spread out. The park centers on a 65-acre lake stocked with bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and rainbow trout, with hiking trails through woods and around the lakeshore plus miles of equestrian trails.

The region has four distinct seasons, and each shifts what camping looks like. Summers are humid with July highs averaging near 89°F, while winters are cold with occasional snow and ice. Summer draws the most RV travelers, but heat and humidity build quickly from June through August, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for camping. Mid-April to mid-June and September to mid-October generally offer the best weather. Wildflowers and hardwood color mark these shoulder seasons, and campground crowds thin outside major holidays. May is typically the wettest month, so watch for storms and localized flooding along the Mississippi bottoms. Winter camping is possible at year-round private parks like Perryville RV Resort, though state and historic-site campgrounds across the river may reduce services. Snowfall is usually light, averaging only about 6 inches a year, but ice storms occur, so RV renters should check forecasts and confirm hookup availability before arriving off-season.

Hookups vary by property. Perryville RV Resort offers full-hookup pull-through and back-in sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp service plus a fire ring at each site, and amenities include a pool, playground, and walking trail. Public-land camping across the river runs more basic. Fort Kaskaskia's campground includes tent sites and 32 electric sites with a bathroom and shower building, spacious level pads, and water available at a central location and the dump station. Randolph County offers a mix of electric hookup sites and full-service sites with water and sewer, plus a dump station near the entrance and gravel pads shaded by mature trees, though spacing can be tight. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Perryville and thinner in the Illinois river-bluff parks, so downloading maps before arrival is a good idea.
