Campgrounds and RV parks near St. Martins, MO

The Missouri State Capitol, Governor's Mansion, and Lewis and Clark Trailhead Plaza in downtown Jefferson City are all within a short drive. Runge Nature Center offers free trails and exhibits geared toward kids, and the Katy Trail State Park provides a long, flat, crushed-limestone rail-trail for cycling and walking. On the water, the Missouri River supports paddling, fishing, and boat launches, while the Osage River east of town draws anglers targeting catfish and white bass. Coopers Landing Campgrounds is a well-known river stop with live music and food, and it pairs well with a Katy Trail ride. Families can add day trips to Binder Lake, Painted Rock Conservation Area, or the northern Lake of the Ozarks about an hour south.

The practical RV season in central Missouri runs from April through October. Spring brings green-up along the river valleys and strong wildflower displays, but it is also the wettest stretch: the majority of rainfall occurs during the month with the highest precipitation, which is May, and has an average amount of 133 mm. Low-lying riverside sites can flood during high-water events on the Missouri and Osage. Summer is peak season. Summers are warm and humid with average high temperatures reaching into the mid-80s Fahrenheit, and summer months bring thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes. Reserve early for holiday weekends, especially Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Fall delivers the most comfortable camping conditions, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color through October. Winter camping is possible for self-contained rigs, but many private parks reduce services or close. Winters are cold and snowy, with average lows dipping to around 20°F, and the area averages roughly 14 inches of snow per year.

Roads around St. Martins are a mix of interstate, U.S. highway, and rural two-lane. U.S. Route 50 and U.S. Route 63 handle most through traffic, and both are RV-friendly. Some county roads leading to riverside campgrounds are narrow with tight turns, so check directions and satellite views before towing in. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Jefferson City and thins out along the Missouri and Osage river bottoms. Expect humid conditions in summer with active mosquitoes near the water. Ticks are common from spring through early fall. Sites vary widely: full hookups are standard at established RV parks, while smaller riverside grounds may offer only water and electric or primitive spots. Confirm 30-amp versus 50-amp service and dump-station access when booking.
