Campgrounds near Humphrey, Nebraska
Humphrey sits in Platte County in east-central Nebraska, roughly 20 miles northwest of Columbus and within reasonable driving distance of the Loup and Platte river corridors. The village itself is small and agricultural, so most RV travelers base out of nearby Columbus for full-service parks, then use Humphrey as a quiet home base for exploring rural Nebraska.
Campground options in the area range from full-hookup private parks to primitive public sites along the Loup Canal. Highway 81 RV Park and Nebraska Mobile Home/ RV Park serve travelers moving along the US-81 corridor with utilities suited to longer stays. Fisher's Cove RV Park and Off Road Ranch add more recreation-focused settings, while Powerhouse Park - Loup Power offers no-cost primitive camping run by the Loup Power District, which owns and operates five parks located along the canal.
Most sites are reachable on paved highways and can accommodate mid-size travel trailers and Class C motorhomes without difficulty.
Things to do near Humphrey
Fishing is a common draw at the Loup Power District parks, where anglers gather along the canal, though campers should take care on the steep banks. Powerhouse Park - Loup Power adds picnic areas, a playground, and graveled walking paths suited to families with kids.
Columbus, a short drive south, provides grocery stores, fuel, restaurants, and the Platte County Agricultural Park for events and rodeos. Off Road Ranch offers a different kind of day out for guests interested in off-highway vehicle terrain, while Fisher's Cove RV Park and Highway 81 RV Park work well as bases for day trips to Lake North, Tailrace Park, and the wider Loup Canal recreation area.
Birdwatching along the canal and river bottoms picks up during spring and fall migration.

The public parks along the Loup Canal follow a defined season. Loup Power District owns, operates, and maintains five parks containing 77 acres of land and 1,100 acres of water, and these facilities are open to the public from May 1 to November 1, weather permitting. Outside that window, travelers should plan around private RV parks that stay open year-round with winterized utilities.
Summer is the busiest stretch, with warm days, active fishing, and family camping through school break. Spring brings unsettled weather and the risk of severe thunderstorms typical of the Great Plains, but greens up quickly and is good for birding. Fall cools rapidly after mid-October and delivers some of the calmest, clearest camping weather of the year before the public parks close for the season.
Winter camping in the Humphrey area is limited. Snow, wind chill, and frozen hookups make private, full-service parks the practical choice for cold-weather stops.
Booking and reservations
Reservation rules vary by operator. At the Loup Power District parks, including Powerhouse Park - Loup Power, electrical hook-ups and primitive camping are available during the summer at no charge, no reservations are accepted, and stays are limited to seven days per month within any 30-day period across the Loup Park system. Sites work on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early on Friday helps on summer weekends.
Private parks such as Highway 81 RV Park, Nebraska Mobile Home/ RV Park, and Fisher's Cove RV Park typically take direct bookings by phone or through their websites. For holiday weekends and the College World Series period in nearby Omaha, book several weeks ahead. Off Road Ranch bookings should be confirmed directly with the operator to match site type to rig size.
What to expect
Expect a mix of small-town Nebraska and working agricultural landscape. Roads are generally flat, well-signed, and easy to navigate with a rental RV, and most parks sit on level ground with gravel or grass pads.
At Loup Power District sites, amenities are basic. There are no dump stations or direct water hookups, no lifeguards are on duty, and all facilities are alcohol free. Plan to arrive with fresh water on board and to dump at a private park or truck stop before or after the stay. Private parks in the area typically provide standard 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at the site.
Cell coverage is reliable near Columbus and along US-81 but can thin out on rural county roads. Mosquitoes are common near the canal in mid-summer, so bring repellent.
