Campgrounds and RV parks near Offutt Air Force Base, NE

Family activity is concentrated at the KOA and the state parks. West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA Holiday offers pool time, mini golf, a jumping pillow, and other family amenities, and it sits just off I-80 for easy access to Omaha and Lincoln attractions. Platte River State Park is the outdoor centerpiece. Popular draws are the park's picturesque waterfall, spray park, scenic hiking and biking trails and two observation towers that allow those who climb to the top a spectacular view of the Platte River Basin. Mountain biking trails crisscross the property. Wilson Island appeals to anglers and wildlife watchers. The Missouri River holds walleye and catfish, and the unique wave-like loess hills overlook the great Missouri River flood plain, a strong spot for migratory birds in spring and fall. The adjacent DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge sits along the Missouri River in Iowa and Nebraska.

The Omaha area has a four-season continental climate. Summers are hot, while winters are cold, and the area receives moderate precipitation annually with a strong pattern of wetter summers and drier winters. Snow in Omaha usually begins around November and ends by April. Peak camping runs late spring through early fall. Platte River State Park is open year-round, though camping demand concentrates April through October and weekends can fill fast. Wilson Island is 100 percent reservable and accepts reservations April 15 to October 15 until 10:00pm CST the day of arrival. Park staff generally try to have the water on and shower buildings and dump stations open by mid April, and start closing down shower buildings and turning off water and dump stations around mid-October depending upon the weather. The KOA in Gretna is open year-round. Big regional events push demand. The College World Series in Omaha in June fills nearby RV parks, and holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day book earliest. Shoulder-season travel in April, September, and October brings cooler nights and fewer crowds but requires cold-weather gear.

Sites near Offutt fall into three broad categories. The KOA in Gretna is amenity-heavy and family focused, with easy on, easy off access to I-80 that also means some highway noise. Bluffs Run RV Park is a paved casino-adjacent park suited to shorter urban stays. State parks offer more space and shade but fewer resort features. The newer Bison Campground section at Platte River features level sites with electric, water, and sewer connections, though campers note the open layout offers minimal shade or privacy between sites. Wilson Island is quieter and more rustic; the campground has modern showers and restrooms, nonelectric and electric campsites and three large youth group campsites that can be reserved in advance. An Iowa or Nebraska fishing license is required for fishing the Missouri River, and an Iowa license is required to fish the backwater chute. As a recreation area, Wilson Island is open for public hunting in season, so care should be exercised by both hunters and non-hunters during hunting seasons.
