Campgrounds and RV parks near Valparaiso, NE

Valparaiso sits in Saunders County in eastern Nebraska, roughly 20 miles northwest of Lincoln and within an easy drive of several reservoir-based state recreation areas. The surrounding Salt Valley lake system and the newer Lake Wanahoo give RV travelers a concentrated cluster of campgrounds within about a 30-minute radius, most oriented around fishing, boating, and family day use. The closest option is South Shore at Branched Oak State Recreation Area, part of Nebraska's largest reservoir near Lincoln, with full-hookup, electric-plus, and electric sites along with basic camping. Pawnee State Recreation Area sits just south, offering the Lakeview and West Superior Rd campgrounds on a lake popular for boating and fishing, with a mix of electric pads and non-electric sites. For travelers who want full hookups and in-town amenities, Camp-A-Way in north Lincoln is the closest private RV park, open year-round. Lake Wanahoo State Recreation Area, north of Wahoo, adds 95 electric camper pads and primitive tent sites on a 662-acre no-wake lake managed by the Lower Platte North NRD.

State-run campgrounds at Branched Oak and Pawnee are handled through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. About half of the sites in South Shore, Middle Oak Creek, and Homestead at Branched Oak, and in the Lakeview loop at Pawnee, are reservable; the rest are first-come, first-served. Lake Wanahoo is managed separately by the Lower Platte North NRD and uses its own reservation portal, with a Lake Wanahoo NRD Recreation Area permit required in addition to camping fees. Camp-A-Way takes reservations directly through its website or office. A Nebraska State Park Entry Permit is required for state recreation areas and is separate from the campsite fee.
