Wildlife around the range includes bighorn sheep, mountain goats, deer, and birds of prey. Closer to town, Wells has a small historic downtown and the Trail of the 49ers Interpretive Center. The ghost town of Metropolis, north of Wells, is a short drive for travelers interested in early twentieth-century ruins.

Valley temperatures near Wells reach the mid-80s Fahrenheit in July, while campgrounds up the Angel Lake road stay noticeably cooler because of the elevation gain. Larger rigs should check length limits and the switchback grade on State Route 231 before committing to the drive up to Angel Lake.
