Auburn sits in Cayuga County at the north end of Owasco Lake, placing RV travelers within a short drive of the Finger Lakes, the Erie Canal corridor, and the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. Most campgrounds in the area cluster along the Seneca River, Cayuga Lake, and the small lakes and creeks north and west of the city.
Options range from full-hookup private parks to a state park campground on the water. Riverforest Park Campground and Marina is a full-service RV park and marina in Weedsport with close to a mile of Seneca River frontage, over 360 sites, and amenities including 30-amp electric and water hookups, a dump station, RV storage, a swimming pool, playground, laundry, and an on-site restaurant. Hejamada Campground and RV Park sits between Auburn and Seneca Falls, and Rivers Crossing Campground and Marina offers another waterfront option on 45 acres near the Montezuma refuge in Savannah.
West Side - Cayuga Lake State Park is located on the west shore of Cayuga Lake's north end, east of Seneca Falls, with a beach, boat launch, dump station, and cabins. Weedsport Speedway rounds out the local mix with event-oriented camping tied to the racing schedule.
Things to do near Auburn
Water activities anchor most trips. Cayuga Lake offers an expansive view from the state park, and anglers target largemouth bass, bullheads, and carp in the shallows, plus northern pike, smallmouth bass, lake trout, and landlocked salmon in deeper water. The Seneca River and the Erie Canal corridor near Weedsport are popular for boating, kayaking, and shoreline fishing, and Riverforest Park Campground and Marina puts guests directly on the water with a marina and boat launch.
Off the water, families visit the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park and the Seward House Museum in Auburn, the Women's Rights National Historical Park in nearby Seneca Falls, and the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge for birding. Weedsport Speedway hosts a full race calendar from spring through fall on its 3/8-mile dirt oval, including DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, Sportsman, and World of Outlaws Sprint Car events.

Private parks such as Riverforest Park Campground and Marina generally operate from April through October.

Matt was incredible from start to finish. Replies almost immediately to all messages and questions from time of booking, leading up to the trip and during your trip. The RV was immaculate on the outside, the entire cabin, refrigerator, bathrooms, etc. And it came with everything we would need for the trip. Was our first time staying in an RV - Matt showed up promptly when he said he would (even earlier), set up everything for our stay and walked me through everything we needed to know to use and enjoy the RV for a week. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone and would certainly book with him again!

How to book campgrounds near Auburn
State park sites and private parks use different systems. For Cayuga Lake State Park, reservations can be made online through ReserveAmerica or by phone at 1-800-456-2267, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Same-day reservations are accepted until 3 p.m. from mid-May through Columbus Day, campsites may be reserved for a single night, and cabins require a 2-night minimum in the off-season and a 7-night minimum during peak season.
Private campgrounds book directly. At Weedsport Speedway, reservations are made through the track's website or by calling the office, payment is required in full at booking, and campers check in at the Speedway office after 12:00 pm to receive a camping permit before parking. Riverforest Park, Hejamada, and Rivers Crossing take reservations by phone or through their own websites. Book summer holiday weekends and race weekends well in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Hookups vary by park. Riverforest Park offers 30-amp electric, water, a dump station, laundry, and a swimming pool along the Seneca River, with a restaurant and bar on site. Weedsport Speedway has 34 reserved sites with water and 30-amp electric hookups outside the Speedway's first turn, plus general dry-camping spaces and a single dump station access included at check-out. Cayuga Lake State Park has electric and non-electric loops, showers, a dump station, and cabins for renters who want walls and a bed.
Come prepared for local conditions. Bring insect repellent, as mosquitoes can be heavy near the water. Pets are welcome at most parks, but current proof of rabies vaccination is required at check-in for state park sites, with a maximum of two pets per site and leashes no longer than six feet. Cell coverage is generally solid; site privacy varies, so review loop maps before booking.
