Camping near Broadalbin, New York
Broadalbin sits at the southern end of Great Sacandaga Lake in Fulton County, on the edge of the Adirondack Park. The town serves as a base for RV travelers heading to a 29-mile-long reservoir known for boating, swimming, and fishing, with a state-owned hard-surface boat launch off County Route 110 a few miles northeast of the village giving direct water access.
Private campgrounds cluster along the lakeshore and in the surrounding foothills. Options in the area include Glampful, Mc Conchie Heritage Acres Camp Grounds, Autumn Moon Campground, Pecks Lake Enterprises on nearby Peck Lake, and Frosty Acres Campgrounds. Each is independently operated, and site types range from tent and glamping setups to full RV pads.
State-run camping is available a short drive north. Northampton Beach Campground, operated by New York State DEC, occupies the northwest corner of Great Sacandaga Lake in Mayfield and books through the state ReserveAmerica system. It offers more than 200 sites, a sand beach, and a boat launch, and fills quickly through the summer season.
Things to do around Broadalbin
Water activities dominate the summer schedule. Great Sacandaga Lake supports boating, water skiing, tubing, swimming, and paddling, and four public boat launches serve the lake at Northville, Broadalbin, the Town of Day, and the Northampton Beach Campground in Mayfield. Anglers target walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, sunfish, brown trout, landlocked salmon, yellow perch, and brown bullhead, and the lake famously holds the North American record for the largest northern pike.
Hikers can pick up the Northville-Lake Placid Trail near Northville, a long-distance route that runs more than 130 miles into the High Peaks. The Silver Lake Wilderness and Wilcox Lake Wild Forest offer additional trail networks within a short drive, and the surrounding Adirondack foothills are used for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in winter.

Camping in the Broadalbin area is a warm-weather activity. Most private lake campgrounds run a seasonal calendar roughly from mid-May through mid-October, and the state campground on Great Sacandaga Lake operates through the spring and summer season only. Snow, freezing overnight temperatures, and unplowed roads make winter RV camping impractical for most sites.
July and August are peak season. Lakeshore sites and waterfront loops at Northampton Beach Campground fill quickly, and reservations can be made up to nine months in advance through the New York State ReserveAmerica system. Booking early is important for holiday weekends and any site with electric or waterfront access.
Spring brings high water on the Sacandaga River, which is popular with kayakers and canoeists during periods of higher flow. Fall is quieter, with cool nights, foliage color across the Adirondack foothills, and shorter operating hours as private parks approach their October closing dates.

How to book a campsite near Broadalbin
The state campground on Great Sacandaga Lake uses the New York State ReserveAmerica portal. Northampton Beach Campground accepts reservations up to nine months in advance, with a 2:00 p.m. check-in, 11:00 a.m. checkout, and occupancy limited to six people per site with either two tents or one unit of hard-wheeled camping equipment and one tent. Campers must register by 9:00 p.m. on the first night of their reservation or the site may be re-rented.
Private campgrounds handle bookings directly. Glampful, Mc Conchie Heritage Acres Camp Grounds, Autumn Moon Campground, Pecks Lake Enterprises, and Frosty Acres Campgrounds each set their own deposit, cancellation, and pet rules, so contact the property before arrival to confirm site length, hookups, and seasonal availability.
What to expect on the ground
The landscape around Broadalbin is rolling Adirondack foothills with mixed pine and northern hardwood forest. Lakeshore private parks typically offer electric sites, camp stores, dump stations, hot showers, and swim beaches, while Northampton Beach Campground provides 223 campsites, picnic areas with tables and fireplaces, hot showers and flush toilets, a trailer dump station, a boat launch, and a sand beach, though it does not offer individual water, sewer, or electric hookups.
Cell coverage is generally usable near the lake and along Route 30 but thins in wooded interior sites. RV travelers should plan for narrow county roads on approach and gravel back-in driveways at many sites. Pets are allowed at state campgrounds with proof of a current rabies vaccination, but are not permitted in facility structures, on the beach, or in day-use areas.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Broadalbin, NY?
An RV rental in Broadalbin is one of the more affordable ways to experience the southern Adirondacks. On RVezy, travel trailers around Great Sacandaga Lake typically run about $90 to $180 per night, while Class C motorhomes range from roughly $175 to $325 per night, depending on size, age, and season. To find a cheap RV rental in Broadalbin, book midweek, travel in late May or September, and use filters to compare hosts. Many lakefront campgrounds book up fast for July and August, so locking in your dates 2 to 3 months ahead often saves you money over peak-summer last-minute pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Broadalbin,%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Broadalbin?
Great news: in New York State, a standard Class D driver's license is all you need to drive virtually any RV you'll find on RVezy, including Class A motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, campervans, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or RV endorsement is required. To rent an RV in Broadalbin through RVezy, you'll just need to be 25 or older, upload your license for quick ID verification in the app, and you're set. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork actually is.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseWhat protection is included with my Broadalbin RV rental?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RVezy reservation includes a renter Protection Plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you are parked at Northampton Beach Campground on Great Sacandaga Lake or driving Route 30 into the Adirondacks, you have backup. The Protection Plan helps cover damages to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort during booking, not the host. Take a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off: it only takes a couple of minutes and makes any future questions painless.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book my Broadalbin RV?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you reserve, so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that window, refunds depend on how far out you are from your trip start date and the circumstances. Because the policy is set by RVezy across the board, you will not see different cancellation terms on different listings. Book early to secure Great Sacandaga Lake's peak July weekends, knowing the grace-period cushion has your back if life changes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Broadalbin RV trip?
Absolutely, the Adirondack foothills are a dog's dream. Plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Broadalbin: just toggle the "Pet-Friendly" filter on RVezy to see them instantly. Once you're here, Northampton Beach Campground and Sacandaga Campground (both NYSDEC) allow leashed dogs on most sites with proof of current rabies vaccination, though pets aren't permitted on the swim beaches. The Northville-Lake Placid Trail trailhead, just up Route 30 in Northville, is a beautiful leashed-dog hike. Pro tip: pack a copy of your dog's rabies certificate, since NYSDEC campground staff will ask for it at check-in.
dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/camping/regulationsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Great Sacandaga Lake?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Broadalbin and the surrounding Sacandaga Lake area, meaning the owner drives the RV to your site at campgrounds like Northampton Beach Campground or nearby private parks, levels it, connects the hookups, and walks you through everything before handing over the keys. This is perfect if it is your first time renting an RV or you would rather skip driving a big rig down Route 30. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host to confirm the delivery fee for your exact campground address.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039372054-RV-deliveryHow far can I travel from Broadalbin on a typical RV trip?
Plenty of range for an unforgettable Broadalbin RV trip. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some list RV rentals with unlimited mileage, ideal for road-trippers. From Broadalbin you can reach Lake George in about 45 minutes (35 miles), Saratoga Springs in under an hour (30 miles), Lake Placid in roughly 2.5 hours (110 miles), the Thousand Islands in about 3.5 hours, and Niagara Falls in about 4.5 hours. Pro tip: if you're planning a bigger loop through the Adirondacks, filter by "Unlimited Mileage" up front, message the host, and you'll avoid overage fees entirely.
dot.ny.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Broadalbin, NY?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Broadalbin sit right on or near Great Sacandaga Lake, a 29-mile-long reservoir in the southern Adirondacks. Top picks include Birch Haven Campgrounds (185 family-friendly sites on the lake in Broadalbin), Adirondack Foothills RV Campground (quieter, well-kept Broadalbin spot), Pine Park RV Campground & Pavilion (full hookups just minutes from the lake), Northampton Beach Campground (NYSDEC, with a guarded beach in Mayfield), and Sacandaga Campground (NYSDEC, on the Sacandaga River with 143 sites). Pro tip: NYSDEC sites book up to 9 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, so set a calendar reminder if you want a lakeside weekend in July.
dec.ny.gov/places/sacandaga-campground-and-day-use-areaWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Broadalbin?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Broadalbin, and each stretch has its charm. June through August brings warm days (highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s F) perfect for swimming and boating on Great Sacandaga Lake. September and early October deliver legendary Adirondack fall foliage with crisp 60-degree days, fewer crowds, and easier campground availability. Local campgrounds like Birch Haven, Silver Maple Park, and Watersedge typically operate May 15 to October 15. Winters here are cold and snowy (often below 20 F), so most RV parks close seasonally. Insider tip: the week after Labor Day is the sweet spot for warm water, quiet beaches, and the earliest hints of color in the trees.
weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Broadalbin?
You'll do great, Broadalbin is one of the friendlier places to learn. The roads around the village and Great Sacandaga Lake are mostly two-lane rural highways with light traffic and gentle terrain, very different from driving in a major city. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, propane, the generator, and dump procedures, and you can text or call them anytime during the trip. Many first-time renters in Broadalbin also choose delivery so the host handles parking and setup at the campground. Pro tip: take your first 10 miles slow on NY-29 or NY-30, get comfortable with the mirrors, and you'll feel like a pro by the time you reach the lake.
dmv.ny.gov/about-dmv/driver-manuals-and-practice-testsWhat happens if I have an issue with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Broadalbin includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the Protection Plan, so if you get a flat on Route 30, a dead battery at your campsite, or a propane issue late at night, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a quick text away for questions about the RV's quirks (where the fuses are, how to prime the water pump, etc.), and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave town, since cell service can be spotty deeper in the Adirondacks.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008874-Roadside-assistanceCan I take my Broadalbin RV rental into Canada or other states?
Yes, with a quick conversation first. Broadalbin sits just about 3.5 hours from the Canadian border at Champlain, NY, making it a great launching point for a cross-border RV trip into Quebec or Ontario. Many RVezy hosts allow travel into Canada and to other US states like Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, or Pennsylvania, but you'll want to message the host before booking to confirm and ensure the Protection Package extends to your route. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular cross-border picks from Broadalbin include Montreal (3.5 hours) and Acadia National Park (8 hours). Pro tip: carry your passport, vehicle registration copy, and a host permission letter for smooth border crossings.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Easier on the wallet than you'd expect. Class B campervans average about 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes around 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A motorhomes roughly 6 to 10 mpg, while a truck or SUV towing a travel trailer typically lands around 10 to 14 mpg. Gas in the Broadalbin and Gloversville area generally runs a bit lower than the New York State average, with stations on NY-30 and in nearby Johnstown being convenient fill-up points. For a 4-day local trip with about 300 miles of driving in a Class C, budget roughly $130 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: top off in Johnstown or Amsterdam before heading north into the Adirondacks, prices climb the deeper you go.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground around Broadalbin?
The earlier the better for the good ones. New York State DEC campgrounds like Northampton Beach and Sacandaga Campground open reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and lakefront sites on Great Sacandaga Lake in July and August often fill within days of becoming available. Private campgrounds like Birch Haven, Adirondack Foothills RV Campground, and Pine Park RV book up 2 to 4 months ahead for summer weekends. For shoulder-season trips in May, September, or October, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually plenty. Pro tip: book your campsite first, then your RVezy rental. That way you know exact dates, hookup type (30 or 50 amp), and whether to ask the host about delivery.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Broadalbin?
Generally relaxed and very RV-friendly. Broadalbin sits at the southern edge of the Adirondack Park, and the main routes (NY-29, NY-30, and NY-30A) are paved two-lane highways with moderate hills and sweeping lake views, no steep mountain passes nearby. Summer traffic is light outside of holiday weekends. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, occasional logging trucks on rural roads, and seasonal frost heaves in early spring. Winter brings significant snow and ice, which is why most local campgrounds close mid-October. Pro tip: if you're driving a larger Class A or fifth wheel, stick to NY-30 and NY-29 rather than the narrow back roads near the lake, and check NY 511 for real-time conditions before you head out.
511ny.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Broadalbin?
You'll find a great mix. Private parks like Birch Haven, Adirondack Foothills RV Campground, and Pine Park RV Campground typically offer full hookups (water, electric 30/50 amp, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, dump stations, and direct lake or beach access. State-run options like Northampton Beach Campground (NYSDEC) provide picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, hot showers, a trailer dump station, a guarded swim beach in summer, and a boat launch, but no individual site hookups. Fresh water for filling tanks is available at the campground entrances. Pro tip: confirm the amp service (30 vs 50) your RVezy rental needs before booking, your host will tell you in 30 seconds and it makes setup painless.
dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/campingWhat's inside the RVs available on RVezy in Broadalbin?
Way more comfort than you might expect. RV rentals in Broadalbin range from cozy Class B campervans (sleeping 2 to 3) to family-sized Class C motorhomes (sleeping 5 to 7) and spacious travel trailers and fifth wheels (sleeping up to 10). Most include a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink; a bathroom with toilet and shower; air conditioning and furnace; a dinette and convertible beds; outdoor awning; and a TV. Many also have generators, solar panels, Bluetooth speakers, and Wi-Fi boosters, perfect for lakeside evenings on the Sacandaga. Pro tip: filter by "Sleeps" count and check the photos and amenity list on each listing, and message the host if you want specifics on bed sizes or whether seatbelts match your group size.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/seat-beltsWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Broadalbin RV rental?
Plenty, and they make the trip easier. RVezy hosts in the Broadalbin area commonly offer add-ons like delivery and setup (often $2 to $4 per mile from their location), a kitchen and linen kit, camping chairs, an outdoor grill, a generator, a stocked propane tank, a bike rack, and even kayaks or stand-up paddleboards for Great Sacandaga Lake. Mileage policies vary by host (typical free allowance is 100 to 150 miles per day, with overage around $0.30 to $0.50 per mile), and pickup/dropoff times are usually flexible if you ask in advance. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen kit on your first motorhome rental in Broadalbin, you'll arrive to a fully ready campsite.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/adirondacks/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Simple and transparent. When you book your RV rental in Broadalbin, you pay through RVezy's secure platform, never directly to the host in cash. You will see the nightly rate, any add-ons, the Protection Plan, taxes, and the refundable security deposit clearly itemized before you confirm. The security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is held as a pre-authorization, not charged, and released after your trip assuming no damage or excessive cleaning is needed. Take timestamped photos and a short video at pickup and drop-off, check fuel and propane levels, and confirm mileage with the host so your deposit is released quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Broadalbin?
You're perfectly positioned for an unforgettable RV road trip from Broadalbin. Top picks include Lake George (about 35 miles, 45 minutes) for beaches and Million Dollar Beach camping; Saratoga Springs (30 miles, 1 hour) for horse racing, mineral springs, and Saratoga Spa State Park; Lake Placid and the High Peaks (110 miles, 2.5 hours) for hiking and the Olympic legacy; Howe Caverns and Cooperstown (about 70 miles, 1.5 hours) for the Baseball Hall of Fame; and the Thousand Islands (180 miles, 3.5 hours) for boat tours of the St. Lawrence. Insider tip: do a 3-stop loop with Saratoga, Lake George, and Lake Placid for a perfect 5-day family RV trip in Broadalbin and beyond.
